Unfortunately the modus operandi for checkpoints is to blast any unidentified vehicle coming at you at high speed. You can thank suicide car bombers for that. Don't blame the troops. Very unfortunate.

We may be getting very close (Hibbert's Peak)
Sinkster replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
Yep, it's too late. We'll be fighting wars over the supply to keep oil cheap enough not to send our economy into mass chaos. But regardless it will be rough, due to the global effects. This scenario has been planned for, for many years and we (USA) will most likely 'win' (but no guarantees). Good thing we are in Iraq. Want to eat? Support our troops! Want to be rich (because only we will have cheap oil), while the rest of the world starves? Support our troops! Want to keep driving your gas-guzzling whale-skin lined Hummer and eat f*cking 70oz steaks for only 10 dollars? Support our troops! /proud supporter -
Yeah, we need to start yesterday on that! But, in the worst case, don't forget to invest in good commodities so you'll be rich while everyone else is starving to death becuase a loaf of bread costs 50$ since the semi used to transport it spends hundreds of dollars in fuel for delivery. Someday the news will say Oil prices pass 175$ a barrel. I'm normally not this pessmistic but this is speakers corner.

I fear you're wrong. I think we do need Middle Eastern oil. I've heard that it would take most of africa growing for biodiesel to meet our future needs. (not to mention the cost) See: Biodiesel = Disaster We need our crops to feed people, not machines!!! From the article: "it is to happen worldwide, then most of the arable surface of the planet will be deployed to produce food for cars, not people." Not to mention the fact that cars are only a small portion of what petrochemicals are used for. Plus, even if we could grow enough for biodiesel, what will it matter when it still costs 7+ dollars a gallon due to cost? It will f*ck us over economically. War is most likely the only option.

I agree. But at least once the middle east is dry, the terrorism threat will be over, if you know what I mean. Not that I blame the US, because the alternative is a collapse that will make the great depression look like the peak of the dot com boom. "The spice must flow"

Judge: Either charge terror suspect or let him free
Sinkster replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
Yeah, I agree too. I'm all for doing what it takes to defense the country, but if we are not mortally threatened (meaning all morals go out the window b/c we will be destroyed if we don't do WHATEVER it takes to win, and Darwin favors the victor, not the valiant), then the inherent civil rights of people must be respected. It's ridiculous what they are doing in the name of 'terrorism defense'! It's becoming the definitive excuse to mow down our rights! -
The following statement is not directed at anyone in particular, but related this post: It's going to be interesting to see who changes their morality when gas is 10 dollars a gallon (due to supply not being able to keep up with demand b/c of China, India, and other massively industrializing nations in a decade or two) and all hell breaks loose. (hopefully this really doesn't happen, but it could) There won't be too many people opposed to an unjust oil grab then. Or true torture (as opposed to what Rumsfeld approved) of those fighting us for it. Being moral is easy when it doesn't cost anything. Would you be willing to allow another Sept. 11 size attack, and your wife or husband killed in the result, so that Joe Queda Prisoner can get a full nights sleep and a cookie under his pillow? Just a thought.

I'd reply seriously, but it wouldn't be socially acceptable. You're supposed to say something funny, right?

lol

Based on normality for me, you're one of those 'crazy-ass personalities'. And hilarious too, thanks for the laugh. Funny post!

Yes, Raistlin, I feel the same way as Muenkel. I really wish I had the opportunity to know Josh personally, but I hold what part of him I understand close to my heart. He was a beautiful soul, precious in his impermanence, and this world is at a loss with him gone.

The PvP makes it fun and I didn't want to be unable to compete effectively. So I rerolled a good PvP / Dueling class. Don't get me wrong, warriors can do some damage, but I had full plate (at 40) with blue weapons for my lvl and purple (yes, epic) armor and shield near my lvl and still could not beat the paladin who did not have plate armor. I even bandaged while he healed during an invuln, and used a health potion, and disarmed him, used shield bash macros, cosmos UI, yadda yadda. It pissed me off enough to delete. (Yeah that was dumb ) Haven't lost an even level fight with my shaman yet though.

Have you found any benefit to having 2gig of PC3200 on a system? I saw a noticable differance from 512 to 1g...but I don't think the increase would be as great on an end-user system jumping up to 2gig. Yeah, it's basically overkill.
-
I agree. Plus, for games at least, as long as you have enough ram you're only going to load from disk at new levels, zones, etc. So the extra speed doesn't matter so much beside load times. (and never use partition magic for funky data manipulation (lost 250 GB when the program crashed while moving partitions around) )

Kingston is a good memory, but I personally have found that Corsair is the most reliable memory out there. I've yet to build a system that had any memory issues while using Corsair. I would put OCZ and Kingston in the same category, but if you are going to do any gaming, Corsair seems to be the best bet. I'd say if you have money to throw away get the Corsair, but Kingston is best for price to performance ratio. The more expensive RAM yields dramatically diminishing returns once you hit enough VOLUME (say, 1 GB total for most things) to keep all the running processes in memory. Case in point: My system scored an average of 4873 in 3d Mark 2005 with two 512 MB PC2100 Kingston DIMMs running single channel. Then, I put two 1 GB Corsair XMS Series PC3200 DIMMs running DUAL CHANNEL in the exact same system my avg score only went up to 4929. That's a 1% difference. HOLY SH1T I SPENT 600 BUX to increase performance 1%!!!! (in 3d mark 2005)

Good call Viking, was about to recommend that myself. I have a K8N Neo2 Plat and AMD 3500+ and a raptor, but the 70gig one which I highly recommend saving for if you are going for a 10k drive. (36 is just too small in my opinion) But in any case, what you have detailed is an awesome system!
