    If a TI is looking for an excuse to not do much training, that is a good one. To me it seems simple. Students do that because they are scared. Make your student confident and relaxed, and they won't be scared and do something like that. Bingo. I've given 6000 students the option, and never had one pull out the door.     As some one who had 2000 tandems before getting my AFF ticket, and now having 6000 tandems, I disagree. I don't think you can know that until you've been there. The way you teach changes.     Hey genius, the F(ederal) A(viation) R(egualations)'s apply to non USPA DZ's too. Failure to remember that is why a certain DZ's aircraft have been grounded for the last month.     Hmmm..... how about the Tandem AAD that fired while I was sniveling open on my main? I'd always wanted to try a pre-planned canopy transfer, but I wouldn't have picked a tandem for the first one. Or the riser failure on a tandem? Know how much force it takes to pull a breakaway handle after the yellow cable on the broken side has experienced "suck through" on the riser and housing grommets before the locking loop failed, leaving you spinning on your back with one riser of your main attached? I do. Brings new definition to the term "pulling handles with renewed vigor". Or the what goes through your mind when a AFF student hangs onto the handle, only to let go of it and have it horseshoe under their armpit, and when you grab bridle in an effort to fix it, you manage to pop the pin and drag the bad into the slip stream, only to find yourself with a student harness in one hand, bridle in the other and bag and lines 2 feet over your head? I'm still here.

    Feb 19th to 21st is the USPA BOD meeting in Phoenix, AZ (Embassy Suites Hotel, Phoenix/Tempe. Hotel: EmbassySuites1.hilton.com), the place where any changes will happen. To get this on the table we need to have it added to the appropriate agenda, namely the Safety and Training committee. I am somewhat familiar with the process having been attending the committee meeting for a while now..... let me know if I can help in any way. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.     You and me both, I've been saying it at the last 2 years worth of BOD meetings..... IMO the biggest challenge to this change is convincing the BOD that the change is wanted/needed. Letters of support seem to work, anyone care to write some I can take with me? Tell your fellow instructors about this as not that many communicate online...... Para, am I gonna see you in Phoenix?

    While I appreciate the attention, that result is utter BS. Quite frankly, someone is ready to do the job or they are not. At any time a reserve side may be forced into being the main side during the jump. We're having trouble seasoning instructors, maybe we should actually make them learn the material they are going to teach, before letting them jump. Apprenticeship starts with coaches, so the "drive by-coach one weekend-AFF instructor the next" rating courses HAVE to go, and a requirement for time in sport, and time as a coach/apprentice needs to be developed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
