Whats the best way to deal with getting cought by a Dust Devil?
diablopilot replied to Viking's topic in Safety and Training
Do all you can to keep the wing flying AND level. Do not go to brakes when it starts to feel rocky, but if you have a collapse, you can pump the brakes to try to clear it. much like you would for closed end cells. There is no real answer, it's a very dynamic and changing situation. Keep flying, and be ready to PLF. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. What's the lowest you'd consider going from? 6000 ft AGL (except in an emegency) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

They work fine, and another benifit is the work under canopy, at any speed. They do not switch off when after deployment, I've heard of some CReW dogs using them because of this. If you want 3 warnings (IMO great for tandems) or you want to be able to visualy tell what you have it set for at any time. And they avaliable for less than $200. Quite a lot less. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Great, right when I get home. If you didn't want me to come in and play you could have juts said so! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Can't do it from work. See ya when I get home.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Please rember that this is in Kiwi dollars. There is no CG problem w/ this A/C like a king air. The tail whole aircraft spawned from an existing design, the Cresco. I *think* the flap is stepable, and the tail is not any more of a factor than a Caravan. It's gonna be a monster! What's an average waiting time for a new rig?
diablopilot replied to miniFly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
8 weeks isn't bad. Sunpath has a current production time of 20+ weeks, Velocity Sports Equipment is about 8-10, RWS is over 12. Little more complex than that. It's not a tote bag after all. Besides the container and harness, you need to build D-bags, risers, pilot chutes, handles, ect. I've watched a Master Rigger spend 45min-1 hour just to build a freebag. I'm just estimating here but I'd not be suprised it a Harness/Container system was 20-30 man hours of work. A production line can slim that down some, but a production line means there are other orders. Maybe ahead of yours. Yes but unlike many other industries I don't want my lifesaving peice of built buy some yutz. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Beware of that price! It is below wholsale, and I can't believe one of the US dealers for AirTec would be willing to sell the units at a loss. Anyone else would be a subdealer. Unless of course they are selling a used unit, or maybe a CYPRES 1 as a CYPRES 2. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
From what I've seen so far, it hasn't had much effect yet. Wait a couple of years when there are more USED CYPRES 2's out there. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Little different situation. An airline pilot is reponsible for a couple hundred lives. Maybe mine. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

While I agree with a 30 year life limit, I think it should be the rigger packing the rig who takes the responsibility of deciding airworthyness. It should not be an organization like the PIA. It smells too much like built in obsolesence. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Well here is the deal, they charge $200 more for the Odssey, than the standard Javelin. The difference between the two is the cut in laterals, and they will let you order the "funky" fabrics. Big whoop. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
I do. The Infinity. And I love the way my Infinity fits me well. As Phree said other manufacturers offer this, and IMO it aint worth the $200 Sunpath charges for it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

A fifty-something woman was at home happily jumping on her bed and squealing with delight. Her husband watches her for a while and asks, "Do you have any idea how ridiculous you look? What's the matter with you?" The woman continues to bounce on the bed and says, "I don't care. I just came from having a mammogram and the doctor says I have the breasts of an 18 year old." The husband said, "What did he say about your 55-year-old ass?" "Your name never came up," she replied. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I guess its what you're comfortable with. I forgot to mention iwant the student infront of me where I can see them..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I don't like the way you've stated if I've read it right. The TM in the back is ok, but how are you going to hook up the student in an emergency? Also The way AD mentions there is less movement by the TM durring hookup, the A/C's CG is furthur foward, and in the event of a forced landing the student won't have a 200lbs of TM AND a 55lbs rig comming at them. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Well leaving aside the fact that I think the camera it's self is a piece of junk, I'll just mention this: It uses APS film, nit 35mm. APS is a smaller negitive because it uses some of the space on the film to store information. Smaller negative means less space to record the image, and therefor less resolution than if the same camera used 35mm. This is the same reason profesional film photographers are often seen using medium format. Large negative means more space to record the same image, meaning higher resolution. For the amount you would spend on this you can find yourself a used Canon EOS Rebel G, or EOS Rebel 2000. Or for not too much more you can have a brand new one. They often come pachaged with a decent 28-70mm or 28-80mm lens which can be used to shoot freefall stuff just fine. Or you can buy the body and a 28mm fixed lens. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
