And people who dump high and fly their canopy perpendicular to jumprun for a long time can get into the same airspace as our pattern. I keep my eyes open for this very reason. It happens. When it does, I am often much closer to canopies than 1/4 mile (which I agree is a ridiculous figure), but I am not buzzing them either. Too true, and those people should a) avise they are dumping high, b) have their own pass off the spot, c) the whole plane should have comunicated their intentions to each other, and d) if there is that many different activies going on, plans should be inplace and implimented by manifes, the pilots, the DZM, and S&TA's to handle it. The big sky theory works, till it doesn't. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Too right Lisa. If wingsuit pilots would stick to the plan and arange things before hand, there should NEVER be a conflict. "L" shaped, or outward diagonals will always keep the pilots from returning to a dangerous, canopy "infested" area. OT: Wingsuits are another example of the "antisocial" problems in skydiving. For a while freeflying suffered from this, but now it's mainstream. Wingsuits often attract those that don't want to hear critizism, or don't play well with others. I know, because that's what attracted me originally. I could be "cool" without "paying dues" as the old skygods would say. The problem with that logic is humans are social creatures and skydivers are no exception. So while they may pretend to be an outcast, or doing their own thing, the "hindbrain" says "I'll show these guys how good I am." It's boring being out there alone all the time, but ego often stops one from making connections with others, especially after shunning those persons previously. I don't wingsuit often anymore for a couple reasons. 1) Lack of people to wingsuit with. They just are not around that often, and solos don't do it for me. 2) I can't deal with the "loaners with a cause". Who wants to jump with someone who contunually tells you how good they are? I was that guy once, and slowly grew out of it. I just hope I never endangered someone. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I'm not trying to harsh you out about it.

Wingsuit proximity to other canopies
diablopilot replied to okalb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Did you pay attention to the waiver you signed and the briefing at Perris? If so you failed to adhear to the DZ's policies on wingsuit flight. How do you know now one was "bent"? The school staff is usually instructed to not handle conflicts directly with up jumpers, but instead go through the DZM, or S&TA's. You may very well have slipped through the cracks. DO NOT mess with tandems. You're playing with other people's lives. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
The problem with that Lisa, it the foward speed the wingsuit pilot is carrying just prior to deployment, and the fact they are not instantly able to control their canopy to avoid a collision. In addition, the fact they were flying towards you while in freefall when it would be just as easy to turn away. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I'm saying there are, and I have no idea if you are or are not a good wingsuit pilot. I'll go out on a short limb and say you probably are good enough, and more to the point you show you have the thought process to approach it safely. You start small and work in.....500 ft, 100 ft, 50 ft. But only when BOTH parties understand the risk and have planed the thing out to a "T". Otherwise give as large a margin for error as possible. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Buzz. Flyby. Whatever. 1/4 is a minimum. There is no reason, no matter the flock type or exit order you should ever have to be that close to other jumpers. Hell, at busy DZ's and boogies running multiple aircraft on parallel jump runs I've never heard of the jumpruns being and CLOSER than 1/2 mile from each other. At Perris on parallel jumpruns the A/C are at a MINIMUM 1 mile apart. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Anyone need some free CR2 batteries?
diablopilot replied to diablopilot's topic in Photography and Video
You'll have to check your camera to decide that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Haven't you seen the ad in Parachutist? All you really need to do is buy the Samsung, and then wear it on that cool looking headband. What could possibly go wrong? To the original poster. It's too early. Take your time and go see some of the pro-photogs at the School for answers to your questions. They do it everyday, they have dealt with it all. Talk to Steve Barker, Lew Lewis (Lewmonst on here) or any of the others back there at the school. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Anyone need some free CR2 batteries?
diablopilot replied to diablopilot's topic in Photography and Video
Most commonly found in some of the Rebel series (most) film cameras used in skydiving? I use CR123's and had these left over from another camera. 5 unused batteries free to the first person who tells me they are sending preepaid postage. Otherwise I'm throwing them out. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
No, I'm not joking. You ain't good enough to be that close without pre planing the "buzz". What happens when someone who got out ahead of you and decided to practice their head down, acctually ends up tracking back down line of flight and ends up in the airspace you assumed was clear? Oh, and 1/4 mile is just nover 1300 feet. Your eyeballs are going to have a margin of error, so don't bet on being as far away as you think. Are you SURE you know where all 22 other people on your load are? (Assuming something like a Twin Otter.) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. The ONLY reason spins of any sort continue to get increasingly worse is input from the flyer. Usually it's an attempt to fix the spin, that unknowingly keeps adding energy to the spin. Relaxing out of it is the best course of action. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

You calmly, and in civil terms, but without mincing words or sugar coating anything tell them they are fucking up, and why it concerns you. Express that your motive is their well being. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

No. Un-announced buzz jobs are totaly un-acceptable. Oh and in addition to alot of other things, I have 400+ wingsuit jumps. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
