It's 8 am in FL. And according to the letter of the law, maintinence on a main is packing, inspection and "small" patches. Define small BTW. Now you know I think pre-manufactured linesets are a no brainer. The skills involved in one should be easy for somone in the sport a few years. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

The BIC (and the portion that became part of the Coach course) is a great way to introduce people to to the ways to teach. Nice thing was with a BIC rating in hand a person could work with an established DZ and teach FJC's while learning from the staff surrounding them, and having their experience vallidated by the DZ. The coach couse has dumbed down the information provided from the BIC, and now provided the opportunity for those witht he rating to freelance, and often instilled them with the attitude that they know enough to. This is dependant on the individual, but in essence up untill recently the coach rating served be able to empower lower time jumpers while de-valuing experienced jumpers. The coach rating was a response to the shortage of instructors a few years ago. It's helped that, but IMO at a cost. We have less qualified instructors, but more of them, and we've lost alot of the experience the sport had to offer. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. You touched on this, but I discussed this with some people. A simple patch does not effect airworthyness. A single line was a grey area, because it may or may not effect airworthyness, depending on how you look at it. But a senior rigger can absolutely maintain their own gear. But not because they have a rating, only because they are the one to jump it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Why we sign off with *Blue Skies*
diablopilot replied to patworks's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Thanks Pat. It has meant something to me from the day I first heard it, as taught to me by one of my instructors. -jp- Blue Skies, Black Death -
A person with a rigging ticket is not permitted to maintain their own main canopy? Or not allowed to maintain your main canopy? Either way, color me confused, cos this doesn't make sense to me. What does a rigging ticket allow you to do, then? Ok so here goes, it gets confusing but lets see if we can make sense of this. This part, specifically the part in red shows that someone can maintain their own main parachute. However the part in blue puts some question into what rating a rigger may do the same for you So we can see that without a riggers ticket of any sort you can pack, maintain, and alter your main parachute to your heart's content within the letter of the law. So can a Tandem instructor that will jump the main next. So may someone holding the appropriate FAA rigging rating. HOW ever also according to the FAR's a Senior rigger may not do any major repairs or alterations without the supervision of a Master Rigger. Major repairs are defined as anything that could affect the airworthiness of the parachute. Therefore anything more than assembly and packing of a main parachute done by a Senior rigger is against the letter of the FAR's Conclusion: Having an FAA Senior Riggers rating restricts what an individual may do to a main parachute, however an individual WITHOUT the same rating has more freedom with their own main. (it could be assumed that a Senior Rigger can do anything they want with their own main, but no one else's.) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. er...dunno what's worse. Just one of the many jealous people here. I expect more support from the person who gave me my first tandem ride (and the better of the two). Obviously we never had a talk about gear colors. (I swear Bonnie is going to chime in here and snipe me) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. When I lived at SkyDance the favorite was Sierra Nevada or as I think of it, Bottled Skunk Farts. Corona is respected almost everywhere. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

ican is the single most fucked up airline I've ever flown. Talk about forgetting who is paying their bills for them. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Here's some advice for people. Stop taking advice from DZ.com period. It's assisting this sport to the mindless level of those that can only eat pudding in padded rooms with plastic spoons. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Damn' when did I loose the title? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Not true. If a person does NOT have a rigging rating they may perform maintinence and assembly of their own main canopy. With a rigging ticket, they may not. Or so the letter of the law states. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Swoopers - could/would you upsize if you had to?
diablopilot replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is that a currency issue? Or would you continue to jump a crossbraced canopy as a full time skydiver even with an injury to protect? Hmmm... I guess that would depend on the injury. Most that I can think of that would keep me from jumping a Highly Loaded Crossbrace would also keep me from being a full time skydiver, possibly from jumping at all. Give me a type of injury and I might be able to be more clear. Currency is the main issue to me. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
I don't expect anyone to feel they have to contact me, I'm just trying to "contact the locals". I'd much rather have the freedom to stay here in FL a while and get to know the locals through the more conventional method of meeting people and making friends, but I'm on a road trip so if I get someting, then great, if not....darn. Been driving all around the state, and there are some beautiful A's I see, but damn' after a drive through a certian city on the south east coast, I got to say what a playground that looks like right now! Lots o' construction! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It's been suggested that I add the fact I'm near Tampa right now, but I'll drive where ever. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Believe it or not, I'm not talking about skydiving. I do that often enough anyway, and will be at Z-hills this weekend anyway. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I'm in the area, anyone got any ideas? PMs? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Unless you are suffering from an asthma attack I would say you're at no higher risk. I looked into this to see what issues I might encounter with asthmatic students (tandem and aff). Do you jump with your rescue inhaler? Might want to consider it, and letting people you jump with know that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I agree the systme is flawed, and instructional ratings are far to easy to obtain now. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It sounds like you'd like to do AFF, but are avoiding going alone. I think the more tandems someone makes, the less likely they will be to get away from them. In my opinion, a tandem jump is just an amusement park ride. No one should consider themself a skydiver if all they do is hang on someone's harness. Kevin While I agree they CAN be just a ride, they can also be an invaluable training tool. We lost something when Static line went the way of the DoDo in this country. Canopy control. That is the biggest benifit any of my students get out of training tandems with me. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
