  1. Bye. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. Let's see. Two companies invested their moneys into a new technology and the marketing for that technology, they CREATED the market, demand, and supply. They want to join, and they should be stopped? WTF? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. I think this incident is a bit less of an issue than the media is playing it up to be. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. I had 5 but I just mailed them to Sunny. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. Thanks Kate. Serves to remind people there is more out there than the daily grind.
  7. And probably 10 times as many no pulls following a breakaway, huh? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  8. Who is packing for you? As for my favorite risers, contact VSE for a set. www.velocityrigs.com ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. Smart Cookie! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. Who says they didn't get it from DZ.com? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. As a clarification, when you say SPAM, are you talking about e-mail based, or snail mail? The USPA (as confirmed by HQ) never sells or distributes members e-mail addresses. There is a snail mail list available for vendors, organizations, etc. however it is very easy to "opt out" through a check box on the application/renewal form. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 12. No, but then I joined. And it's personal choice, but the AOPA is well worth the support. It's less expensive than USPA membership, and they do untold amounts to protect GA in this country. (Hint: Skydiving falls under GA-general aviation). They are part of an effort to find good replacements to 100LL, have legal protective services, hold the FAA at bay when it comes to overwhelming aircraft AD's........ Think about joining.
  13. Tell him to pay, then hire a PI and start the proces to have her declared "unfit" if he really feels she is. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. Agreed Strongly disagree. If a student is not taught the key reason for using standard patterns from day one, and additionally to keep an eye out for traffic, you are starting them down the wrong path. No one is asking them to do that yet, only to be aware of the importance of flying among traffic and start practicing see and avoid techniques. And it's at this point that too many skydivers are getting lost in the fold...... education happens on every jump, there is no reason to wait. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 15. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. Sigma container: I believe it to be the safest tandem container on the market today, between it's drogue retention/release system, and the SkyHook. Precision Tandem Reserve: Works well, and is more affordable than the competition. HOP330 or Precision/Icarus 330 main: The HOP is the single nicest opening Tandem Canopy I've jumped, and it flies well, much like an oversized Stiletto. I can fly one all day and not be worn out. The PA/Icarus 330 opens slightly less well, but has the advantage of no brake stowage, which I like for ease of gaining control, and reduction of things to pack wrong. It also flies like a dream. Edit: These days I'd go with the Vigil AAD, mostly for it's logging function. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. One more example...... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. Every one. If people are trained properly, and educated the right about the dangers of skydiving, then these sorts of accidents are completely preventable. If not, then no rule book in the world will keep people from offing themselves, and unfortunately they are taking others with them. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 19. Details? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. The drogue collapse when it is released, prior to extracting the bag from the container, if it does not, the opening are brutal, and damage to the canopy is likely. A collapsed drogue produces drag approximate to that of a standard pilot chute. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  21. It is quite possible that this would cause a LONGER deployment sequence than simply pulling your reserve handle. The main has to deploy first, then activate the reserve, and the possibility of the main not fully deploying because it is no longer connected to you is there. If it does not fully deploy (bag lock), it may open the reserve container, yet create enough drag to exceed the drag of the reserve pilot chute at which point if the system functions as designed the skyhook should disengage leaving you with a standard reserve pilot chute deployed reserve. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  22. You REALLY need to understand the gear you put on your back BEFORE jumping it. That is not intended as any sort of attack. A Skyhook/DRX performs the EXACT same function as an RSL. The only difference in method is after the container is opened, how fast the canopy is brought to line stretch. Hopefully it now becomes obvious in your scenario, that exiting and pulling your breakaway(cutaway) handle only, will simply leave you in freefall with both a packed main (now useless) and a packed reserve (still able to be activated with reserve deployment handle, or AAD if present.) Please go to your instructors/mentors and seek further advice both for your education, and to provide feedback to them about possible oversights in the instructional process. They may not realize that information has not made a transfer between them and the student. Often what is taught in an FJC, or early in the program, does need to be covered again to ensure learning was achieved. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 23. Couldn't state it better myself. At your home DZ what and how people are flying is usually evident, and when visiting DZ,s it's a good conversation starter. Hot dog pilots always want to talk about themselves, new pilots share notes, and seasoned jumpers and instructors are usually happy to share tips, and have a strong interest in protecting themselves.
