Pull up cord alternates?
half-a-greek replied to half-a-greek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just packed the rig with a shoelace and it worked just fine. However, the aglet did get caught and it took a few extra seconds to ease it out. other than that, it works in a pinch. -
Pull up cord alternates?
half-a-greek replied to half-a-greek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm at home and I need to pack my rig but I don't have a pull up cord with me. Does anyone know of a good alternate material that can be used for packing and can be found around the house? -
What happened to the sky surfers?
half-a-greek replied to half-a-greek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What happened to sky surfing? I have heard from a few old time skydivers that it is a sport dieing out within our sport, but the question I ask is why? How many people out there sky surf still? -
Whats the price? That I don't have the newest and coolest looking rig on the DZ? yes it's a little old and may have somewhat of a washed out look to it, however it works, it gets my ass to the ground safely and I have fun... for intro gear that I'm just going to beat the shit out of anyways since I'm still learning, I think what I paid is just right. Reliability = $$$ yes. I just bought something that is both old and reliable. knock off a few $$ for the old

Just bought my set up, everything but the cypress for $1250.00 and that's with shipping included . all the gear has roughly 300 jumps. it's an older model but it came with a ZP Triathalon and the rig is freefly friendlyish, (may have to do a mod). I just bought this after months, (and I say months literally), of searching the DZ.com classifieds. Don't make a sacrifice to your budget and spend way more than you wanted, just be patient and eventually something just right will come your way. Plus, the more time that goes by = more time to save money to get a nicer rig!!! Good luck!

I know the magic number smart ass. I just tried calling it yesterday and Sunpath must have been closed. plus what a factory 'says' there going to do, and what they actually do are two different things sometimes. Thanks for the info!
-
How long do you think it would take for Sunpath to do a complete re-harness on a javelin?
-
eh 500 jumps, only 457 more to go...should be able to get that done by the weekend Thanks for the info, I was always curious about tandem rules.
-
I have a friend doing a tandem this weekend. I want to do the same thing but with my low jump numbers and experience I don't think the tandem instructor will let me do it oh well, It'll still be fun to watch her face as I leave the plane

How much would you pay for this? no jump numbers on anything... old equipment... a little sketchy? seller description- The container is a Javelin J-4, Black, Light Gray, Blue and Purple. It is equipped with an RSL. I am 6'0" tall and wiegh 200 lbs, the rig fits me a litttle too snug, so I'm thinking the MLW is between 15.5 and 17. Date of manufacture is 01/92. The Container is NOT BOC, has NO AAD, nor is it equipped to facilitate an AAD. The main canopy is a Performance Designs Sabre 9 cell DOM 12/95, no patches, no rips, no tears. This canopy looks to have plenty of life left, actually looks great for it's age. The lines are still white and look fine. The reserve is a Glidepath (now Flight Concepts) Firelite 176r. Number of rides and repack history unknown. Date of Manufacture 01/92. Last repack 09-06-2007. The pilot chute is black, in good condition, as is the slider, which is purple and collapsible. I have never jumped the rig, but truly believe I would if I was still jumping. I am selling my gear because I have not jumped in over a year, and do not plan on jumping again, sorry to say. I bought the rig as part of a package 2 1/2 years ago as part of a huge package.

Does anyone know anything about the PISA Conquest? I tried looking it up in the gear section but it wasn't listed, and the other three canopies that were, were listed as discontinued... From the ad it is listed as a ZP 9-cell, and that's it.

Took my first plunge this morning.

Welcome to the sport! and as it was said above it only gets better from here!!! Also I saw that you mentioned that you did your first jump at skydive AZ; I live around Chicago, I did 6 jumps here then winter hit, so I took a trip to Skydive AZ and finished up there. All I can say is that I had an awesome experience, great (knowledgeable) people and fast planes! If you decide to get licensed there, you won't regret it!!! Blue skies -

haha np. The seller wants to give it away for 1000. In my mind, since the sabre 2 came out I feel that it takes away from the value of a sabre 1... call that subjective, I know it is, but I'm just trying to save as many pennies as possible 450-500ish jumps... new lines 135 jumps ago... not the original owner... I dunno, I'm beginning to feel that 1000 isn't all to bad. However, in my perfect world the price would be 500 bucks.
-
I'm looking at purchasing a 230sqft Saber 1. I'm still trying to get the serial number to verify the manufacturing date with PD. supposedly it has around 450-500 jumps with a new line set 135 jumps ago.

I've been told that the cost of a zp canopy decreases by $1 every jump that is made on it. However, how much would you dock off the price for every year that goes by? Even if the thing was sitting in a closet since the day it was purchased. In my opinion, time deteriorates everything, doesn't matter what it is. Any other things to look at when trying to determine the cost of a canopy? Thanks!

From one noob to another, ASK QUESTIONS!!! your instructor are your best friends in this sense. If you understand the gear, it will let you focus on what you have to do during a skydive, rather than on your gear in a skydive.

I think freaking out about the dangers of skydives is just a process of becoming a skydiver. I wanted to know the risks, and I feel better knowing them, because I then learned what to do to best avoid them/deal with them when they occur. I look at it this way; I met a guy with 1100 jumps before his first cut-away, but to counter that, I saw a noob with probably less than 50 dives cut-away, (both landed safely). Most jumps go right, some don't that's a risk I am willing to take.
-
you never know though, rules can be fudged a little. I don't know the official rules but if you have 600-700 jumps, despite the fact that you haven't jumped in 10 years, you might be able to find a DZO that might cut you a deal with the license thing. Also, i went to skydive AZ to finish my training a few weeks after new years. It was an awesome experience, if it wasn't for my job back home, I would have spent my entire winter break there. Well worth the money!!! good luck to you!

A Relative Workshop Vector II, Type V5.5 - Main: 450-580/Reserve: 350-480 (pack volume); blue, RSL, excellent condition (less than 50 jumps). DOM: Sep 91. I'm 5'9 and weigh around 190-200 I'm looking to get a 230sq ft, at the largest, canopy as my first canopy... thoughts? the container is one year younger than me... minimal jumps, but time in general has a way of wearing things down, regardless of use...

I've allready posted this in the why did you start jumping thread, but here it is anyway. I am addicted to anything that makes me "weightless" 10 years of swim team, and a scuba license in hand as a testament to that. To add to that, my parents had friends who were skydivers... I remember being about 4 years old and watching a hot air balloon go up at couch freaks... 14 years later I did a tandem 3 weeks after my 18th birthday, four months later I became a licensed skydiver. I know for the rest of my life, whether I stick to skydiving or not, that I have done something with my life.

take the first 3 classes then will i be ok with
half-a-greek replied to danny2485's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
well that means no jumping for a long time but on the bright side, do you get a signing bonus with the air force??? if you do that could fund your adventures before you ship out -
Why did you start skydiving?

18 years old is not the time to get into debt. If you really want to get into it then it's not going to get any cheaper. Find some extra income to cover it. Yes I admit I'm in debt, but it's extremely managed. A few more pay checks and everything will be in the green . In the future though, like when I go to buy gear, lift tickets, etc. I intend to pay in full. I have no regrets, but debt is not fun.
-
yeah money's a bitch, but a month or two of living in debt and running your car on fumes is well worth it IMO I'm just wishing that some of my friends will try it and get as addicted to it as I am, that way they won't get so annoyed with me when I wont shut up about skydiving.
