I am going to echo what popsjumper said.... Until you are there you have no idea. Hospice care makes such a difference. While my mom was in a hospice unit the whole family was around, thing is we would make a point to chat with other families there etc. We are all there for the same reason. The other thing, they let me bring one of my dogs into the unit. Nikita would come with my daily and after visiting with my mom for a little bit we would make our rounds to all the rooms. It got to the point that the elevator would open and the nurses station would announce "Nikki is here"

Childs play.... A few years back at the Hospital I worked at we played pranks ALL THE TIME. Mind you for those that dont know I work in IT. So something like that in the video would have been no big deal. We had so much more fun, undoing network cables in the middle, so network connectivity would die, but unless you went and pulled cable out from behind cabinet you wouldn't notice, changing someones screen saver to the blue screen of death and watching them reboot there computer every time they left there desk and came back. But the best were changing sounds, but doing it not in the control panel but in hidden processes. One guy was the target of these attacks, we got him good twice. His problem was he wouldn't lock his PC when he walked away, and there were 4 of us in a community cube...sorry fair game . Anyway one of them would make his computer randomly burp and fart of varying tones. The other one did a few oddball sounds cant remember exactly what, but the other thing it did do was every time you maximize a window it would say in the most annoying voice "I put the window up" and when you minimize "I put the window down". Both of these were hidden processes So unless you knew exactly where they were placed and what the file name was you couldn't get rid of it. Not only that, but to make matters worse, the file was named something that wasn't obvious And the guys I work with know wonder why I am so freaking paranoid about always locking down my box She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

And that they are correct about. It is fun to watch and be around the vibe of the competition. However while competing most of the competitors will be in their own world extremely busy and really not have much time to chit chat. I worked the last Nationals at SDC and it was just incredible to be around everything. Definitely worth going and hanging out to watch as a spectator. That's what I meant. None of that will be going on during the day or while jumping; that would just be stupid and dangerous. I didn't mean anything hardcore wither. Even after jumping there will be very little drinking....they have to compete multiple days in a row. Each group will consume AFTER they have finished all the rounds for the division, which can take 2 days, 3 if weather factors in. That will not stop allergies....it is the dander not the hair that is the problem. However I agree, he should shave that dog anyway As for pet allergies, zyrtec I have heard works well. Having said that though just as an FYI in the Chicago area right now both ragweed and mold spore counts are freaking rediculously high right now. People who really didnt have much problems in the past with hayfever/alleriges are suffering now. I havent had an allergy attack like this in years. Allegra and Nasonex are my friends. I did to an extent, but when my mother was on her death bed she admitted she was one for having not quit oh so many years ago...though all the times as I begged her as a kid all the way up till she was diagnosed If you have never seen what this stuff does to you first hand, and i don't mean my third cousins grandma died 6 states over. I mean having to be there taking care of someone who is dying, day in and day out for the last bit of their life. Watching them loose half of their body weight, not being coherent, having to have tubes shoved into everywhere possible to remotely survive. My mothers cancer spread from her lungs to her spine and left her in an incredible amount of pain. The pain that this puts on the family is freaking incredible. My mother was 51 years old when she died, my aunt is early 60's right now. They both could very well be alive if they had made the choice to quit, or for that matter never started. This is something that is mostly preventable by choice. Sure there are a few people who get cancer from other things, but your odds of it COPD, emphysema or a myriad of other heart conditions are so high. I had to have a chat with my father, who still smokes. He has made a promise to quit as I am not ready to go through round 3 anytime soon. I also know that he doesn't want to end up like my mother (his wife of 32 years) and now his older sister. He has already been diagnosed with both COPD and emphysema which is bad enough. Ahhhh, you see..... I wonder how many people who do not have insurance SKYDIVE, biff in and rack up medical bills for the rest of us to pick up. In that realm skydiving and smoking are the same. I disagree with jumping sans insurance But again the number of people being effected by smoking is far worse as far as I can tell then those people jumping. The strain on the medical system is far worse because of smoking then it is from people biffing in from skydiving. Having said that, participating in any SPORT sans insurance is not all that bright. It is a choice and if you make a mistake and screw up...you should be prepared. I wont ski or anything else while I am with out insurance. Ah but you see...I wonder how many people who do not have insurance, smoke, get cancer and then rack up the medical bills, that in turn rack up the price of health care and insurance costs for those of use who don't smoke? Damn good question Dave! I am trying to find the exact numbers to correlate with the skydiving numbers, but here is some info to start with. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_2X_Smoking_and_Cancer_Mortality_Table.asp http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/healthyliving/smokingandtobacco/ http://www.lungcancer.org/patients/fs_pc_lc_101.htm I am still looking for the specific numbers to relate to the percentage of smokers that actually do die...I know I saw it somewhere and it was much higher then with skydiving In one of the articles above it states that smoking can take at least 15 years off of your life. Hell my mom didnt make it to her 52nd b-day. NM, looks like onyourback and billvon got it. Ladies and Gentleman of the smoking section..... This is what is commonly known as "TOUGH LOVE". I spent most of my child hood begging my parents to quit, begging my aunt to quit. Pleading and asking them to stop. Being nice didn't work. However if someone would face the reality of the situation and what could happen, I might save a life. I will not sugar coat this situation anymore, I did that most of my life and it got nowhere and I watched my family either dye or are in the process of dying. If me being a "Bitch" or what other name any of you want to call me can make one person think twice, maybe start to back off and even quit. My work is done. I am not doing this for anyone but you people. I have sat through as a family member now going on round 2 of the after effects of this, as the person from the outside it sucks. I am sure it sucks even more being on the inside, being that person who is laying in a bed all fucked up You can call me what you wish, you can form any opinion of me you wish. But that is between you and your conscious. Nothing you can say about me on this subject is going to hurt me, Most of you people may never run into me. If 20 years from now you end up laying in an ICU all tubed up I will never know, but your family will. This post is to attempt to have anyone else end sitting bedside with a loved one dying from cancer. There is no comparison between smoking and general skydiving...sorry. You can continue to live in denial, and keep convincing yourself otherwise. Just like the digits that think they are invincible and will continue to hook it low or fly there canopies way out of range when advised otherwise. You are asking for it. Those that get defensive about my plea to take care of yourself and stop the horrid habit are the ones that have the largest problem. For those of you who have quit, good on you! if you are thinking I will stand behind you, crappy icky mood and all. You are doing yourself a huge favor, you are doing your family an even bigger one. As for me being a PITA. When it comes to watching people suffer from stupidty, it hurts. I hate seeing this when it is avoidable. So if me putting up a slightly bitter PSA makes me a pain in the ass in your eyes...thats too bad. People who know me, know that I am far from that when it comes to this stuff. You can form what ever opinion of me you wish, but I am not going to be the one to end up dead from smoking...that simple. I guess you have not lost any FRIENDS who have made that mistake. I am pretty sure you have sympathy towards a person at one of your dropzones that this happened to last year. Actually quite the opposite, I have this attitude because i am tired of seeing this shit over and over. I have lost WAY too many friends, or watched them pound in. Sure it sucks they got hurt, but 99% of the time it was preventable if they had listened or payed attention. It is about making choices that can save or destroy our lives. You make a bad one, I am sorry for you (that is general you, not you) but that is your choice to make, and the pain you inflict on others is the price that is paid. I have very little sympathy for stupidity. Even my own. She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

Awe...I struck a nerve!!! Guess what, this is the internet and I am free to post my opinion all I want. If you dont like it, then dont read it. But obviously this bothers you..so puff away!!! I really dont care if you suffer later. I will say this again, skydiving and smoking are no where similar...sorry. Unless you like to hook it low, then by all means...but let me get the bounce bingo going. Um i have to say NO. You can get killed driving a car, a motorcycle, hell skateboards, rollerblades skiing and alot of other shit. Skydiving is a sport you do for fun with the risk of getting hurt. Smoking is inhaling a carcinogens, smoke, and chemicals which are KNOWN to cause serious issues. Your theory means that people who do anything that might cause death should be grouped together. Well I disagree that smoking falls into this realm. It doesn't. You can try to tell yourself that it is the same, but it isn't. But remember my words when you are sitting there with a tube shoved down your throat, in your stomach and up your penis. Like I said to my dad last night...You might be next. Dont get me wrong it hurts like hell, but I dont feel sorry for them. They both my mom and my aunt did this to themselves. They decided to smoke and they are paying/paid the ultimate price. Go head and keep on smoking...you wont effect me. But when your wife/kids/sister who ever are at your bedside in horrible anguish watching you suffer....think of them. As for the comparison to skydiving...I have the same opinion of people who are told that they are at risk, flying a canopy like an ass and are going to bust themselves up. I have 0 sympathy for them when they pound into the ground. You can skydive relatively safely, but as in life there are risks that might take you out. Smoking is like doing low ass hook turns. It isn't a matter of if you are going to pound in, it is a matter of when. She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

Yup, what they did was re-align the way your foot works. If your shoe does not have enough arch support the arches start to collapse inward, the metacarpals in your foot will spread out wider then they should causing the ball of your foot too spread too wide thinking out the foot pad. Well when your ache collapses inward it starts to put pressure on your ankle. Your foot rolls out and your ankle bone in. Superfeet and really any GOOD insole (if you bought insoles at a pharmacy they are junk) will give you arch support to keep your arch from collapsing and will also form a cup under your heal. What that does is forces the fat pad on your heal to stay aligned under your heal where it belongs. Thus giving you more natural cushion when your heal impacts. I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of Superfeet. They are not cheep, but worth EVERY penny. most shoes with out them my toes will cram up against the inside of a shoe and it will be too tight. I pop in superfeet and whala! I have enough room in the toe box. That is it doing its job and keeping my forefoot from spreading out
-
Yes, but they too have a life span and need to be replaced. Superfeet are designed for arch support and to limit pronation. They do not provide any additional support in the shoe. What they do is align your foot correctly to properly use the fat pads in your feet for cushion. They for general wear should be replaced every 9mo - year, and if you are using them ALOT...then they need to be replaced every 6 months or sooner. The plastic form in the insole will start to give out in time from the pressure. I am a HUGE fan of Superfeet and have had the chance to talk to them personally while working at REI. For running you still need a good shoe with good support along with the Superfeet. If you remotely give a shit about anyone around you in the slightest way, you will FUCKING STOP!!!! 15 years ago my aunt was diagnosed with small-cell carcinoma of the lungs. She went through chemo and radiation and into remission she went. About 5 years later my mother was diagnosed with non-small cell carcinoma of the lungs, chemo didn't work and I lost her to Lung Cancer 10 months after diagnoses. Last night I went to see my aunt who is now in ICU. She started having chest pains, and went back to the doctor. They ended up having to remove 1/4 of her right lung. As of yesterday she is still stuck on a ventilator and has developed pneumonia. They have been trying for the last 5 days to get her off the Vent and she cannot breathe on her own. Things are not looking good AT ALL. Both my aunt and my mom smoked, and it is definitely cancer from smoking. I am sick and tired of seeing you fucking idiots who insist on inhaling smoke cause you have to. The shit fucking kills you!!! What do you think is the #1 killer in most fires???? SMOKE INHALATION!!! There is 0 reason what so ever to continue to torture yourself, then in turn torture the rest of your families when you are stuck in a bed having to eat, breathe and piss through tubes. My Aunt is miserable, in pain, and completely a mess. Because she needed to smoke. I am pleading with those of you who smoke to seriously think about this. Do you want to end up like this? My mother died at the age of 51. Do you want to put your families through the pain of cancer? Trust me this is round 2 for me and I can tell you from first hand experience it is not fun, it is not pretty, in fact it is hell. My father lost his wife of 32 years (my mother) to cancer and now his sister lay in a hospital bed. I have made him promise me he will not smoke anymore. Though that process had already started. I am not asking for vibes or anything else. Actually what I am asking for is for those of you who smoke to take a serious look at what you are doing to yourself and those around you. Please quit. Thing is the bottom of the shoe isnt what actually keeps your foot supported. It is just there for traction. The wear and tear happens more on the inside where the foot bed and arch support are. The constant running impact repeatedly compresses the internals of the shoe and thus rendering it more and more useless. The internals provide the shock protection for your knees and back. When it wears out your body starts to feel it more and more. She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto
