Ok, im going to throw my .02 cents here... I am one of those who did AFP with the Tandem progression. Now would I have done AFF with no tandem at all...probably. I think the option of doing a tandem lets the jumper get a feel for what is going to happen. No this sport is not for everyone I totally agree with that. If the tandem is done as a "Ride" it is then usless. AFP Requires the student pull, keep altitude aware etc... When I started AFP after having done 2 Tandems (7 years apart btw) I understood exactly what I was doing and knew the sensation I was going to feel etc. It made it a bit easier on the nerves having been there before. I have seen a lot of people come off of straight AFF, get there a license and have no landing or flying skills what so ever. I think one of the big things to be address, and this has been beaten several times here is canopy control during student progression. It was part of our training as we progressed thru AFP, we had freefall skills to work on, and Canopy flight skills to work on. In addition we were able to concentrate on actual flying skills, docking turning, orbiting etc. Not all crammed into 7 levels, but 18. The price comes out the same, as if you did AFF, and what it would take to get your A, plus we got video...priceless.... Instructor "Your feet are on your ass, and your backsliding" Student "No they arent" video...Student...Doh..."Im using my ass as an ottaman" Tandems themselves have nothing to do with this, they are more of a break in to what is coming. Even still there are people who do tandems and go on to AFP/AFF who have no business being in the air..... Absolutly! I am just refering to the people who are not in the breeding for the long haul. There are some amazing people out there who are breeders. They are in it for the love of the animals and the love of the breed. Leave the breeding to the breeders! I did a lot of research before I decided my first dog was going to be a Shiba Inu. I talked to a lot of breeders and went to a bunch of dog shows. Those people are amazing. I spent a lot of time on the show circiut for agility. They are the most amazing people I know. eeneR

This is correct..and good for any command. Repeating makes matters worse....the key ingredent to getting a dog to listen is body posture and the tone in your voice.... If you say "NO" with a happy tone, it will not get the emphasis across. Each breed is different and needs to be handled that way. Dakota, my husky is a wuss...If Chris and I are watching a hockey game and start getting all excited yelling a the TV, Dakota will roll over submissive in front of us. Of course if we get all wound up and excited about something...he will too...its cute. The Shiba on the other hand...heh...she is a BRAT. Way to smart for her own good. I have trained her and titled her in agility. I had to retire her because of hip an knee problems, I can see her getting stiff...and well she is my pet first. Ok, I wanna go home and hug my babies..... eeneR

Ok, now that I have whiped the tears from my eyes and of my desk. I worked first as a volunteer, then as an Animal Care Assistant for a No-Kill Humane Society. We were not state funded so we were not bound by the regulations of taking all dogs that were dropped on our door step. Most of our dogs were taken from other shelters death row. Most people do not know that if a state funded shelter is full, and dog is dropped off, they must euthanize for space.... I felt so good working for the shelter, we saved so many lives of animals that would have died needlessly. Both of my dogs are rescues, the Husky in fact came from the shelter while I was there, he had a major history of being a flight risk (6 times picked up by animal control) so seing I had history of training dogs with issues of running...he is now mine.....and a wonderful dog... Getting on soapbox I have issues with those that think it sooo cute to let there dogs have puppies...just cause it is cute. There are breeders out there that do this and will take the dogs back if the owners no longer want them or can have them, let them deal with the breeding, this is a passion for them. One step higher I have serious issues with those that are to lazy to have their pets spayed or neutered!....just in case you didnt know, or forgot....MOST WILL DIE! or be passed off from home to home to home.....PLEASE FOR GODS SAKE GET THEM FIXED! Check with your local humane society, they usually can point you to a vet that will give you a discount, Getting off soapbox eeneR

There are multiple different progressions, in the US there is AFF, AFP and ISP as well as S/L and IAD. Other countrys have different programs than the U.S. I was trained on the AFP program at SDC. Renee

I wear both contacts and glasses to jump with my full face, and contacts with goggles. I have had no problems either way....in fact I recently had my full face blow off at 9k (user error)...and squinted my eyes just enough that my contacts stayed put!!!! I prefer jumping with my contacts. She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto
