  1. It's been so long, I've lost interest. Chuck
  2. _____________________________________ Yeah! They can sure make you feel un-easy. I figure, they do that because they'r trying to get their 'bluff' in. They put their britches on like you and me... one leg at a time. Chuck
  3. I don't think, you will be damaging the environment or the 0-zone, with a lead weight belt. The lead shot will be contained... unless a seam splits open and that, isn't too likely. The lead shot is readily available at any gun shop or, if yo know someone who re-loads shotgun shells. I' prefer #-6 shot. You can really pack it in and the end result is smoother pouches. I would suggest, tapping the bottom of each weight as you fill them to settle the lead-shot. Use a small funnel to fill your pouches. Trying to pour lead-shot from the canvas sack it comes in is really messy. Chuck

  5. I'd keep it casual with this woman for awhile, till things die-down. Avoid mentioning her SO. If, you want to know something about him, ask your SO... they do work together. As has been said here, she may have some 'old' issues with her SO. Either that or, you could take this to Jerry Springer! Chuck
  6. I talked to Brenda yesterday on the phone about it . . . she confirmed that I had the publication number correct, and the broken link I had was all they have as well. She said that the FAA has hung the file on their website, but they don't know where it went. I emailed GPO this afternoon . . . _______________________________________ Thank you, for that. I'm really, anxious to see it. please, keep us posted on anything you might learn of this. Chuck I got a reply from Sandy today. He said that USPR website would have an update on the pub in the next few weeks. he also said that the FAA and GPO were to have it available for download but of course as has been stated there is a problem with that. So it's pretty much a waiting game. It was suggested earlier in the thread to call local FSDO and see if they had a copy to give away. Since it was in limited print, I would give my FSDO a call, but I have a feeling they would know what I was talking about. _________________________________________ I appreciate what you've said here. Seems typical of the Feds. Thanks, again. Chuck
  7. You're saying you walk around smelling like a fish market? Whoa! Chuck

  9. True... I hope I didn't add to a pile of SPAM-Mail that Sandy has to sort through... but then again... how many times have you seen folks here at DZ.Com be told to "call the manufacturer" or "read the manual" only to have the thread drone on and on and on; funny how lots of problems can be solved by doing that and funny how there's is seemingly lots of resistance here to do that... anyway, once I saw it said Sandy had a hand in writting this sought after Pub... I figured going and asking the man would be a logical thing to do... ... silly me. ____________________________________ Good point! It never hurts to ask! Chuck
  10. Well! That recommendation is good enough for me! Mac and weiners? After what you said? Sheesh! If, you said all that about me, I'd take you for Mexican food... they're runnin a 2 - for 1 bean burrito deal! Chuck
  11. I would well imagine, Sandy would know. I would guess too, he's been inundated with e-mails since this thread was posted. Let us know, what you find out. I hope, the cost is 'with-in reason'! Good luck! Chuck
  12. Depending on the amount of fraying and/or tearing. I have repaired them. When there is inconsequential fraying, I have carefully hot-knifed around the crossport. If, the tear is going from leading edge to trailing edge direction, it cause some really funky flight and performance. If, it is really serious, the rib may have to be replaced. There are a lot of variables here. Have your rigger take a look at it and see, what he or she says. Chuck
  13. That is because it is alway the same people who ask, and after teaching it 3 or 4 or more times and knowing these same people have attended safety day more then once, I think by that amount of time of free teaching if they don't still know how to do it, tells me their stupid & wasting my time. No I don't think your attacking me, my point is when/if you get a ticket and spend sometime using it you will have a better understanding of what we put up with. ***but I hope your pricing to the skydiver who shows a intrest in learning about the gear that saves there life and shows respect for your work would be charged accordingly. *** I have no problem teaching anyone about their rig and or rigging, I encourage it, but if you don't learn anything from it cuz it is easier to throw money around, your wasting my time again, but I'll take your money if your willing to pay the price for wasting my time during the free training. I will say if you came to an event and had to chop and need to get a repack it will cost you the normal fee(60.00 usd), I would rather take time out of my fun to get someone back to having their fun instead of sitting on the ground. Most jumpers are very happy to have someone spend time teaching them about their gear, those people are the ones who learn and will offer you dinner or a drink or something, like yourself helping the guy with his car, those are the people I will help anytime for free and they are not the kind who always return to ask the same stupid crap time and time again. I keep a list of who I will help and those who will be charged for my time. ~ _______________________________________ I know a Rigger who deals mostly in pilot emergency parachutes. He has what he calls an 'Executive Re-pack. For $50.00 more, the rig owner can watch! He advertises this and has had some 'takers'. Give you any ideas? Chuck
  14. I am sure you would learn something...as I love to teach....but I am a little dissapointed in the fact that you have to ask what I do.....as I have already stated in this thread that I am a Master mechanic....hmmm responding to my posts with some ire yet cant recall that info......... I do read these fourms alot and know that your a cowboy/rigger ....however I do not know what flanking a calf means....but with Brokeback Mountain being in the limelight and being a smartass.....naw...I wont go there __________________________________ Sorry, Man. I had a brain-fart as to your occupation. Flanking a calf, is reaching over the side of a headed or heeled calf and get a hand each, under a front leg and a hind leg and layin' that calf on it's side. The flanker , gets control of the calf's head, while another cowboy races in to get hold of a hind leg. This keeps the calf under control so he/she can be vaccinated, branded, ear-tagged or ear-notched, inspected, rejected and told to sit on the Group - W bench! Oh, sorry... When we're done, we let that calf go and get another till they've all been worked. Master mechanic, sounds pretty interesting. I can dig that! Chuck
  15. _______________________________ The pay's about the same! Chuck
  16. _________________________________________ Sure! I'll follow you around. I'll bet, I'd learn something too. Before I got too far... wgat do you do? If, I can pack a reserve, flank calves, fix fences, break colts... I think, I can keep-up. Chuck
  17. My my you riggers do seem to be a sensitive lot ......My comments and questions were not meant to be offensive to you or anyone else...please dont take them as such.
  18. Your thread, sure got hi-jacked in a hurry! You are correct. The connector links stay with the parachute. All the rest of the parts; risers, d-bag, pilotchute etc., stay with the container. We had a guy who would give me 3-trash sacks, when he wanted his rig I&R'd and container washed. 1-bag, had the main... off the connector links. Lines, just rubberbanded together. 2nd. bag, had the reserve parachute... same as the main. 3rd. bag, had the container... you guessed it! The links were on the main and reserve risers. Each time, I would explain to him, 'proper procedure'. Each time, I would tell him that there would be an 'extra' charge for 'assembly'. Chuck
  19. Yup! I've done a lot of that $30.00 work, over the years. For the same reason. You know, it seems funny to me that, we riggers go through a lot of work to get our tickets. In the long run, we "are responsible' for our work and if, all goes wrong, (the extreme) answer in court room. Folks, complain about our prices. What I don't understand is, those same folks will pay $50.00 to $90.00 for a video of their tandem jump and not bat an eye. I am not trying to de-mean video guys but, a video is worth more than seeing to it their equipment works properly and is going to do it's job? Chuck
  20. ______________________________________ It's that or go 'psycho' doing it the conventional way! Chuck
  21. ____________________________________ That's one way of seeing just how 'good' they really are! Chuck
  22. __________________________________ That, was what my Senior instructor told me. I'm going to level with you. some of the new 0-P parachutes give me fits. Sometimes, controlling that slippery material can be a bitch. Chuck
  23. Definitely! ________________________________
  24. ______________________________________ I don't really mind helping someone. the ones who chap my ass, are the ones who ask me for help packing. We get it done and they flop it back open and re-do it... their way. THAT, just wasted both of our time. Chuck
