Homeowners Assn censors "peace sign" holiday wreath
masterrig replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually, they can be - general rule: as long as you are deemed to have voluntarily joined the HOA, then you are bound by principles of contract, and the HOA can file a lawsuit to judicially enforce the terms and conditions of the contract. That's not to say you cannot defend against such a lawsuit, but it can be filed, and you'll have to defend against it if you don't want a default judgment entered against you. Now, I did say for the most. The last neighborhood that I lived in could do nothing about the shorty dragpipes that I ran on my bike nor could they do anything about my 57 or my 80 El Camino. They sure did bitch a lot though and I sure did rap the pipes every time I passed the house of the complainers. __________________________________ A small act of defiance! Reminds me of my Mom, before she passed. My Dad had died and my Mom sold our house and moved into a nice little condo out in the 'country'. She read through the HOA's rules and regs. She turned livid when she read the part that said... "NO ROSE BUSHES!" She had always had roses at our house and loved them. That spring, she planted rose bushes around her condo. About early summer, they all bloomed and were absolutely gorgeous. some of the roses were the size of cup-saucers. My Mom was in her yard one day and the president of the HOA was out for a walk and stopped to visit with my Mom. The first words out of the HOA president's mouth were how beautiful those roses were and how she wished more condo owners would plant them! My Mom just politely thanked her for her words and just gave the woman a big smile! Obviously, the woman hadn't read the 'contract'! Chuck -
I recently moved to the mountains of West Texas and we're getting some of that weather report! Woke-up to snow on the ground and 14-degrees (above). We're stuck till the snow melts. Roads up and down the mountains are impassible. It's really neat! I love it! Chuck

Don't worry about it pal! So, you listened to a little 'A-Ha'... no big deal. Every guy does it once in awhile but don't admit it to it. You had balls and admitted it. It takes a manly man to do that. Your one redeeming factor was following-up with Iron Maiden and etc. You start listening to Madonna or Britney Spears and it's instant lifetime revocation of your man card! The Village People is just totally wrong! Chuck

I disagree. Today's country sounds like toned down rock. I can't even understand half of what is being sung, and there seem to be very few unique voices that will make you stop and listen. And, where the hell is that steel guitar? __________________________________ I agree, whoe-heartedly with you! Nashville finds one thing successful and they'll push it for all it's worth. Todays so-called country singers all sound and look alike. Today's country is just so much mainstream drivel. Like Chaoskitty said; real country is out there, you just have to look for it. I like to listen to the 'old' country stations. Chuck

Yeah I saw that. I might have believed she was serious if she hadn't done the same thing to her husband when he won entertainer of the year a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure she was joking and everyone would have seen it if the cameras had stayed on her. Its all just drama.. _______________________________ You're really 'up' on your Nashville gossip! I didn't see where she did the same thing to her husband. I'll tell you what, they can sure get crap started with the right editing! Chuck

I've heard of whitetail/mule deer crosses out here. The confusing part is marking the tag! Chuck -
If I ever have a question regarding country music singers, I'm definitely calling you. Blues, Dave hehe.. I lived in Nashville. Useless country artist knowldege is part of the culture. ______________________________________ Surely, you saw the CMA Awards show, when Faith Hill was up for the same award with Carrie Underwood. They showed Faith's reaction when it was announced Carrie had won... Faith got weirded-out... it was not pretty! Faith was pretty angry. Chuck

....................................................................... I agree with this....But there have also been many people over the years who have done everything right, and yet were killed by a bear. That's why I would never feel safe hiking out through the wilds of Denali Park or even Yellowstone Park without some type of backup. I don't care how bear savy you are, there's a pretty good chance that, over time, something bad would happen. I'm not afraid of bears, but I do have a healthy respect for them. ........................................................................... there's a huge difference between the black bears of Yosemite, and the sort of bears in Alaska. The grizzlies are pretty damn dangerous, regardless of what you're doing, and the polar bears will go out of their way to get you and eat you. reply] .......................................................................... I agree again, but black bear kill far more people each year than any other species of bear. You can do everything right and still be attacked by one. I remember one starving black bear that killed three people in a very short period of time and then started eating them. As far as everyone being allowed to pack a weapon in a National Park...I can see your point on this....But I can also relate to the other side of the argument. So this makes for interesting discussion....Steve1 ________________________________ After reading your profile and just judging by where you live, I'd sure put my money on you, as for knowing about bears. You've made some really good points and none I can argue with. Maybe, limiting the carrying of firearms to those who are trekking into 'rough' country? This is a pretty interesting discussion. Chuck

there's a huge difference between the black bears of Yosemite, and the sort of bears in Alaska. The grizzlies are pretty damn dangerous, regardless of what you're doing, and the polar bears will go out of their way to get you and eat you. It's also the difference between a national park that resembles a green Disneyland, and a true frontier. The food chain is different there. As I understand it, a campsite is considered a home with the same gun rights one has at home, so I can see California being hostile to the idea of changing back. Even I'm not sure I want to see Camp Curry armed. It's grossly overcrowed with yahoos already. _____________________________ I understand the difference in the creatures in wilderness areas and our natl. parks. I can also see a need for a firearm in a wilderness area. I'm beginning to see also, where a firearm could come in handy in some of our natl. parks. Chuck

What are "proper places", in your opinion? _______________________________ I'm not going to argue that point. Just voiced my opinion. I'm not trying to sound like an 'anti-gunner' or anything. Like I said, I like and own guns. I just don't think, guns should be in Natl. Parks. Think, about all the visitors and kids running around our parks. I can see all the arguments for or against. We have enough other places we can carry guns. We'll just have to see how this one plays-out. edit to add: You did mention your travels along the Rio Grande. That area is well known for some of the things you mentioned like drug runners and the like. I know too, some folks on the other side of the river like to take pot-shots at river rafters, Border Patrol agents and the like. In further thought, I'm beginning to see your side. Maybe, it's not such a bad idea, after all to be able to carry a gun in the Natl. Parks. Chuck

________________________________ I think, a lot of the problems with bears and other wildlife in our parks is from being stupid. There are signs all over the parks stating: "Do Not Feed The... Bears, Elk, Deer, skunks whatever. what do the tourists do? They feed them. Most tourists to our parks don't know shit from a good grade of apple butter about wildlife. The animals equate humans with food. As much as I like guns and carry a hand-gun, I just don't believe, our National Parks is the proper place for a firearm. Chuck
