  1. ____________________________________ As far as some jumpers I know, yes! When I was working on my Senior cert., back in the 80's, my instructor and I discussed prices, should the re-pack cycle go to 180-days. We came to the conclusion that 'it'll all come out in the wash'. We decided that there would probably, be more repairs. Money made from repairs would kinda fill in the gap of that one 'lost' I&R. 6. Companies refused to hire regardless of their qualifications for much of the 20th Century. Hiring practices are not always rational. ____________________________________ That's sure the truth. I have lived through most of that. I recall a time, when it was difficult for a white male to get a job because of 'hiring practices and government pressure to hire minorities. Chuck
  7. Exactly. The way I see the problem is very simple: supply and demand. Perhaps if companies and individuals stopped hiring illegal immigrants they would stop crossing illegaly. ______________________________ Precisely! Can you imagine 'big business' not hiring 'cheap' labor and lose money in the process? To me, it's the end result of plain old greed and they couldn't care less about anyone or anything but themselves. Chuck
  8. ... so far... just wait a few more years! ______________________________________ I know, what you're saying. Chuck
  9. Learning ALL those languages is surely an unreasonable burden. I think a fair compromise is that all north americans should be forced to learn the native language that was most common in the area they live in. _________________________________ That's what I get for a cheap attempt at humor! How 'bout this... The majority of folks in this country speak English. Hou about, we stick with that. Works for me! Chuck
  10. Why shouldn't YOU speak Navajo? They were here before the English speaking immigrants. _________________________________ ...or Pawnee, Comanche, Chippewa, Ojibwa, Cherokee... You think 'our' English is hard to learn! Chuck

  12. __________________________________________ That's a real good picture of the 'proper' knot. I like to finger-trap the excess line and just 'tack' the line with 2-turns of 'E'-thread. That keeps the excess from slipping out of the finger-trap. Chuck Chuck, a question I too hand tack the finger trap to keep the line in. I use the light super tack instead of E thread. I considered E but I thought the smaller light tack thread would be less abrasive on the spectra should some force get applied somehow. What do you think? ________________________________ I've tacked a finger-trap at the toggles with home sewing thread (in a pinch). The tack doesnt need to be strong, it's only holding excess line, inside the line. Also, I only tack them just snug. I've never seen a problem using Nylon thread as far as abrasion and etc. Chuck Thanks Sounds like either is OK are far as you see. I do like using a working with the smaller waxed cord. It is softer to work with and easier to pick out if I have to. Thanks again Marc _____________________________________ I should've mentioned that waxed thread is good. It will help 'keep' the knot. When using 'E' thread, after I've snipped the thread, leaving about 1/8" ends, I'll use a Bic lighter and carefully sear the ends and quickly swipe my finger over it. This leaves a smooth knot and less likely to come un-done. Chuck

  14. That's what the police and FBI does. However that's a lot of work with few success stories. There are several reasons, and probably the most important is that several large forgery factories are in Mexico, so it is very hard to close them. It is the same as fighting drugs - it can be done, and it should be done, but there will be no successful victory which ends the drug selling forever. It might work. The only question is how? Currently you have to submit the list of number-name-DOB of your employees in writing to SSA, and wait for reply. The reply may take a while. Obviously the employer could not wait for three months while SSA runs the check, and confirms the numbers, so the interface must be fast and easily accessible. Like an online web site. However this still doesn't solve a faked identity problem though, when a person uses someone's real name and SSN by forging identity papers. The most important thing is not to choose the business to raid; at least in California a lot of people seems to know where the illegals work, so you just need to ask locals. The question one is how to do the raid; obviously those people do not pick up grapes with their passports or driver licenses in pocket. Some of them might claim themselves as US citizens, so it is not easy even to legally recognize an illegal immigrant. The question two is what to do next; anyone who's deported has a right to get a hearing in the immigration court, and this might create major burden for them. And the question three is what to do after the court decided to remove them - what makes it difficult for them to cross the border again? ___________________________________ Good questions. We can discuss this till we're both blue in the face but... the problem will still be there. Chuck

  17. And I don't see how it is proposed to be prevented. There is basically no reason for employers to do so, unless they run background check on a person. The law does not require them to validate SSNs, so they do not. The raids raise more questions than answers. How could they qualify legal immigrants vs illegal during the raid? I don't think they have passports with them. And how did they justify the raid - or they just go to any business they want (or do not like)? Or some crimes. ___________________________________ The Border Patrol Investigators work on finding who and where papers are being forged. True story. Maybe, employers should be made to check SS numbers. How does the Border Patrol justify raids? Usually the same way any other law Enforcement agency would... tips and/or investigation. That's a good point! Chuck
  18. Does this include cutting welfare to all of the American citizens that are descendants of people who illegally sought refuge here during world war 2 or even before, or just mexicans coming over the border in the last few years that this has become a hot-topic issue? ______________________________________ Whoever has been drawing welfare all their lives when they are perfectly able to work! 20. In my experience it is not an accident when someone confuses the two. They usually know exactly what you are saying. When debating illegal immigration, the easiest approach for the pro side is to confuse the issue between illegal and legal immigrants. This accomplishes two things; 1: By detailing the contributions of legal immigrants they can justify illegal immigrants by attributing the gains from legal immigrants to illegals. 2: By constantly blurring the distinction between legal and illegal it is easier to paint you as anti-immigrant and shoot down your arguments thus putting you on the defensive. You can make the distinction a thousand times yet to no avail. This is how the straw man argument becomes so effective in this case. _________________________________ Thank you, for that. I really do appreciate it. Well said! Chuck
  21. Yes, they could. Actually they are doing it right now. However it only work on a very low level, where you can just replace one person with another for no cost (like picking up grapes). If uneducated, unexperienced illegals are your real job competitors, there is something wrong here. This is already a law, but it doesn't work. Basically what illegal has to do is a fill I-9, put random SSN, and check "I'm a U.S. cinizen" box; current law does not require employers to verify the employee legal status through INS/USCIS or SSA. The only time they could get caught is when employer reports the person income (and paid taxes) to IRS, and they return "SSN name/DOB/number mismatch". Are there a lot of Border Patrol officers available? I thought there is even not enough to patrol the border itself. Look irrelevant to me. Do illegals receive welfare? ____________________________________ The problem is, illegals get 'phony' papers and go for the higher paying assembly-line, construction jobs. Social Security numbers, can be checked-out. The problem there is, it is 'costly' for employers to do so. Employers see an SS card and that's good enough for them! False documents are a real part of the problem. MacArthur Park in L.A., is a good example for illegals to get false documents. Back in the 70's and '80's, we were short on Patrol Agents but, 'raids' still took place. We can do it again. Especially now, since we have assistance from the Natl. Guard and Sheriff Depts. By cutting welfare benefits to 2nd. & 3rd. generation welfare recipients, they could do some of the grape picking. Chuck
  22. Now that's a good one! What do other nations' internal policies have to do with ours? Shall we let them govern us? Bucking the trend and opening the door to immigrants is what turned us from a backwater of criminals and religious sects and into a world power. It is precisely because other nations get worked up on nationalist perversions and shut their doors that it's such a powerful and attractive opportunity for us to take their migrants. They're literally sending us their best, brightest, and most entrepreneurial. All we need to do is let them in to benefit ourselves. _____________________________________ What I am saying is, check-out other country's laws in regard to immigration and you'll find that ours are quite 'easy' in comparison. I'm not by any means saying anything as ridiculous as you suggest. Also, I am strictly talking about ILLEGAL aliens not legal immigrants. I wish, you could get that straight!!! Chuck
  23. The trick is that by giving up our current policies, we win too. Beyond amnesty, we owe foremost ourselves an apology for perpetuating this broken system. And to all the legal and illegal immigrants and people we've screwed with queues and bureaucracy, we should say "we're sorry, we screwed up big time. it's not much consolation but fwiw we took it just as hard as you did". Vindictiveness doesn't solve anything. _____________________________________ I don't believe, we owe anyone an apology. We need to stand-up and fix the problem. This 'open door policy', you seem to support is a crock! We have Immigration and Nationality laws. As does every other country on this planet. Some folks abide by and respect those laws. There are others who chose to 'ignore' those laws and 'steal' citizenship. What this country needs to do is start enforcing the laws that are already on the books. Check-out other nations laws on immigration! Check-out Mexico's immigration laws. We've made ourselves an easy mark for illegals. We've come just shy of rolling-out the red carpet for illegals. I'm damned sure not going to apologise to an illegal alien for anything! Chuck

  25. Excellent idea. They might then have to ofer a liveable wage to citizens. Another excelent idea. Imagine expecting a new arrival to actually have a plan. Yet strangely the do have the balls to protest and make demands. Funny, I am not anti-immigrant, and I suspect you are not either but because we do not cow-tow to political correctness on those who break the law we will undoubtedly be accused of being anti immigrant. Odd how that works ___________________________________ I don't think, either one of us is against 'legal' immigration and are actually for it. The 'illegals' know, they get enough of them over here and it's like; "What are you (the U.S.) gonna do about it? Give us amnesty... we win!" When the illegals protest against having to return to their native country, they're just thumbing their collective noses at us. What's wrong with that picture? Chuck
