Gotta Love Al Gore Who's Motives are Pure as the Wind Driven Snow

I never said it wasn't, and I completely agree, the bailouts of GM and AIG were very irresponsible. -

Just that your statement makes it sound like it is Al Gore's money. I really don't have a problem with Gov. loans as long as they are responsible. -

Here is an article from 1975 http://www.denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm In the first paragraph there are two links. The first link is to a PDF of the original article and the second is to an article on how often there have been warnings of a global temperature trend. Now I will concede that our measurement techniques and overall technology have improved over the years, but to me, it seems that the weather is not the only thing that goes in cycles. It really reminds me of advertising. Advertising has been around forever, and the number one selling method is fear. Look at how long religion has been using it. Go to church, pay your tithe, or go to hell. There is a reason the saying is “No news is good news!” That’s because you see a happy story and then you change the channel, they tell you your kids are being exposed to Dihydrogen Monoxide, and you are glued to the screen. There are so many ads out there designed to make you think you need their product. Side Note, it is really funny to me is how a good majority of them are designed around fear of not getting laid. Buy our clothes, our cars, our male enhancement products, etc …, or you will never have sex again!! Back to the topic, so what is wrong with them advertising “Global Climate Change”? At least they are preaching for responsibility, surly that can’t be a bad thing. When proponents agree that they do not have the means to understand the entire process why in the hell would you close discussion? Why would you limit your research to only greenhouse gasses? I believe it is because that is what people are currently afraid of and that is going to make it easier to get your research funded. Even PETA joined the bandwagon and was trying to create a tax on dairy and beef farms that would make it almost impossible to operate because of all Methane emissions. I will admit that methane is a more effective greenhouse gas then CO2 but I also submit the following: “As for the influence of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas: on a normal day the atmoshere contains 10,000 ppm (parts per million) of water vapor and about 300 ppm of carbon dioxide. The government-paid scientists say that an increase of 100 ppm of CO2 over the next 50 years will result in a catastrophic warming. The thermal absorptivity of water vapor is 4 times larger than that of carbon dioxide; it follows that the CO2 increase will increase the overall thermal absorptivity of the mixture by about 1/4 of one percent.” -- Marc Jeric MS and PhD degrees from UCLA, with majors in thermodynamics and heat & mass transfer Now this is only comparing Water and CO2. Just remember this when someone talks about hydrogen powered cars. “I thought the Sun caused Global Warming?!”

What symbol will they give the Obama Youth?
Dewhast replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
National Socialist German Workers' Party Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei ("wiki" - to lazy to do real research) Contrary to popular belief, socialism is not a political system; it is an economic system distinct from capitalism. Communism is a political system. I point this out just to show why people make the comparison. I personally feel that calling Obama a Nazi is the easiest way to close communication thereby losing any argument. It is just ignorant to tie the man to a group based on one similarity. This is also why I generally stop talking to people when they call me a Republican simply because I don't agree with the HCR. I just don't trust the Gov. -

Speaking of symbols, have you seen this one? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_g23lfkRjkWA/SnwrWGia4pI/AAAAAAAADVg/L5IK3U5-bbI/s1600-h/Obama%20Health%20Care%20Logo%201.jpg Before you reply, I view this only as a joke. -
School speech: where was all the outrage when Bush Sr did it?
Dewhast replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Again, does that make any difference? I am just pointing out why people got upset. "Presidential aides acknowledged the White House helped the U.S. Education Department craft the proposal, which immediately was met by fierce criticism from Republicans and conservative organizations who accused Mr. Obama of trying to politicize the education system. White House aides said the language was an honest misunderstanding in what was supposed to be a inspirational, pro-education message to America's youths. Among the activities the government initially suggested for prekindergarten to sixth-grade students: that they "write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president." Another task recommended for students immediately after listening to the speech: to engage in a discussion about what "the president wants us to do." Yes they said it was a misunderstanding, but the letter and post speech discussion topic sure sound like propaganda. Again, I am just pointing out why there was an uproar. This is very different than "say no to drugs" no matter what your politics are. -
School speech: where was all the outrage when Bush Sr did it?

Does that make any difference whatsoever? The topic was B.S., they got called out, and they stepped up and changed it. I personally feel that the new topic actually has a chance of being inspirational as opposed to agenda pushing. -
School speech: where was all the outrage when Bush Sr did it?
Dewhast replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
I am not a parent and I have no problem with what they are currently saying the speech will be about. I was upset with what the speech was going to be about. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/sep/02/wh-withdraws-call-students-help-obama/ "The novel curriculum plan brought sharp criticism from conservatives, including some who complained that classrooms were being used to spread political propaganda. In response, the White House last night confirmed they were revising the lesson plan that was distributed last week by the U.S. Department of Education." "We're clarifying that language," White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said. By Wednesday evening, the sentence asking children to think about how they can "help the president" had been replaced. The rewritten line said students should "write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals." IMO there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking a student to "ask what they can do to achieve their education goals" or to "stay off drugs" for that matter. I do have a problem with asking a student to write about how they can help the president achieve his goals. You must see the difference there. -

I'm glad to see someone questioning data. I agree and would really like to see the complete list and the direct country to country comparison but I cannot seem to find it. I brought up this data more to show the difference between measurable numbers (5 year survival rate) and the criteria the WHO used. WHO's assessment system was based on five indicators: 1. overall level of population health 2. health inequalities (or disparities) within the population 3. overall level of health system responsiveness (a combination of patient satisfaction and how well the system acts) 4. distribution of responsiveness within the population (how well people of varying economic status find that they are served by the health system) 5. the distribution of the health system's financial burden within the population (who pays the costs) I do not see a single one of these indicators as "cut-and-dry". Also, it did mention access to health care. "The researchers suggest that white and black people receive diagnoses in different stages of the disease, have unequal access to health care, and are different in complying with treatment." But again it is what they suggest and not a real finding. http://www.irishhealth.com/article.html?id=13908 This other article also references this study and says the following: "the study showed that survival rates were affected by health insurance. Survival was highest among patients with private insurance, "intermediate" among those with national insurance, and lowest among those with none, the study found." Maybe there are people who are happy with "intermediate", but if it was someone I loved, I would want nothing but the best. -

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/115086.php This is only one example why. It is a common trend amongst most illnesses. "For all cancers, Europe had a much lower survival than the US. Survival for prostate cancer in the US is 91.9% compared to 57.1% in Europe - a 34% difference." -
The Ugly Racism of the Right Will Be Their Undoing

Alright, I have a problem with this one. The reason it bothers me is I have had a similar experience. A couple of years ago I agreed to help a friend move into her new house that she and some friends were renting. Unfortunately, we were the first to arrive and my friend did not have her own key so I climbed up on the roof and found an unlocked window. Naturally the cops showed up shortly thereafter because a neighbor saw me do this. The first thing the cop did is ask me what we were doing and, with his hand on his gun, demanded to see some identification. Did I ever at any point raise my voice or get accusatory at any point? Of course not! If you have ever seen an episode of Cops you know that it is not the polite people who get tasered, it is the people who think they can talk/yell their way out of an arrest. In the end we were able to show the officer with a copy of the lease and show that we were there to move things in and not out so the officer told us to have a nice day. Then do you want to know the really crazy thing? My friend actually thanked the officer and told him it made her feel better that her neighbors were looking out for her house. Do a Google image search on “Gates Yelling” and tell me what you see. Does it look like he took the polite or the accusatory route? -
You favorite skydiving web site designs?
Dewhast replied to peek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have told several people that that reason I ended up at Green Bay Sky Divers was because of their website. http://www.greenbayskydivers.com/home.html whether or not that is a good thing could probably be argued. It had nothing to do with me wanting to sky dive but their website was much more professional looking than the other drop zones in the area. The first thing that jumps out for me is whether or not the website has a solid theme. Secondly, because I had never jumped before, I wanted to see lots of pictures of people jumping. It sure doesn't hurt that there were so many people smiling. Lastly, there was plenty of information about pricing and student progression. Things you want to know about when your are considering becoming a skydiver. -
I present to you a trend of real importance. Popularity Pay close attention to January - March of 2006

One week 2700+miles in a Car ... Should be fun.
Dewhast replied to Dewhast's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
On May 14th my brother will be graduating from OCS at Fort Benning, GA and I am planning on driving his car down for him from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Since I am fairly new at my company and I have not accumulated that much vacation time I decided to try and make this a skydiving trip as well. Right now I have only ever jumped out of C-182 and I would like to try some other aircrafts so I was thinking about trying Skydive the Farm as it is on the way. I have noticed that there seems to be several jumpers from the Farm on this website and I guess I am looking for any suggestions/advice you would be willing to give. -

You only need one chemical and it is nitrogen (N2). It was pretty funny reading some of the comments. The air you are currently breathing in about 70% nitrogen so I wouldn’t worry about it being TOXIC. They were kind of right to warn against doing this because of the temperature nitrogen needs to be to remain a liquid but, as you can see from the video, there is some time to play with. Speaking as a person who has put his hand in liquid nitrogen and still has all his digits you can get away with it. The temperature difference between liquid nitrogen, and the body part you choose to expose it to, is so great that the nitrogen will instantly boil and there will be a small vapor barrier that will, for lack of a better word, protect you. It is all a matter of exposure time so if you choose to do this, please be quick, and DO NOT SWALLOW. As far as where you can get liquid nitrogen, just give any chemical supplier a call and tell them you are a middle school teacher who wants to demonstrate how to shatter a rose. You shouldn’t have a problem. Then when you get bored with this, you can move on to some of the more fun experiments like making contact explosives.
