yeah, i use a butt bungie, but i don't know how much good it really does since i tighten down my leg straps pretty well. my favorite thing about butt bungees is *snapping* them when people are walking around, least expecting it! b

OK, so i've got the cash and ready to toss some down for one of Brent's concentric ring sights. The following comments from http://www.brentfinley.com/ringsite.htm concern me though... So here's what I'm wondering...how much cold can these sights really take? I can follow the first idea, keeping the sight indoors at night no problem. But what about the cold temperatures briefly encountered at altitude? I'm in the midwest, so in the cooler part of the season we'll be jumping between neg 20 and plus 20 degrees F at altitude. Can the concentric ring sights handle these brief cold spells without becoming splotchy? Or is it better to hang up the pricey sight during the winter for a cross sight? Please be specific on your winter jumping location if you migrate during the off-season. Thanks!!

i got mine for $1140 after shipping from http://www.butterflyphoto.com...although i wouldn't order another one from them again due to crappy packing. they put the camera box in a HUGE shipping box with minimal padding, so my heart was really pounding until i got the camera out of the retail box and found out that it still worked! that was earlier this summer, i saw on their website that they were still sold out. b

i LOOOVVE one slip, what a good song. also off that cd i love the guitar from "sorrow" and this verse - He's haunted by the memory of a lost paradise In his youth or a dream, he can't be precise He's chained forever to a world that's departed It's not enough, it's not enough OK OK but i gotta give Waters some props too, how about - And when you've just run a red light Sit shaking under the street light You swear to yourself you'll never drink and drive again OR I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us...very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad... HMMM time to go pop in some floyd for the drive home!

These guys came and jumped with us this past Sunday. Kept the place pretty busy since our 182 is temporarily grounded, so we had to put them all out of the 206 (article misquoted it as a 210). http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040726/NEWS08/407260353&SearchID=73179028682602 These guys brought plenty of stories to share about the old days of jumping, along with lots of photo albums to help stir up the memories. You could see their minds thinking back as they would flip through the pages of the albums...thinking happy thoughts when glancing at the european women they partied with after the war, and thinking thoughts of disgust when looking at the pictures they snapped when going through concentration camps or mass graves. The website of their unit isn't that bad of a read - www.currahee.hispeed.com It's wild to think where our sport would be today if it wasn't for these guys back when parachuting techonlogy was being pioneered by mass numbers! b

I jumped a chest mount for awhile when i was waiting for a new wrist mount to come in, and never noticed a major discrepancy between the chest mount and my audible when sit flying. HOWEVER, i did notice a nasty discrepancy on one tracking dive that I was leading on my back. i don't remember exact altitudes, but i do remember everyone tracking off much higher than expected (should have tracked away from formation about 4000, but i was reading between 5500 and 6000). I tracked a bit longer to get some more distance, and then was shocked when i saw how big the ground was and deployed, finding myself under a good canopy at just < 1500. Granted, i was using an old student chest mount altimeter as a loaner and it may have been a bit sticky, but regardless, the burble probably helped the issue along. If you are really concerned, jump with 2 altimeters for awhile and compare them at different speeds and different sitting positions. An audible never hurts either. b

yo, my fav dead musician is jeff buckley. i heard him when i was in high school (92-96) and was completely amazed. he ended up dying in 97. for those of you who want to hear some great guitar playing, pick up his first album "grace". if you need some more, grab "sketches for my sweetheart the drunk". speaking of drunk, i need another beer... b

LOL nice....guess you got that one covered then.

Dave, I only paid $52 a year with Progressive for liability only on my old 350cc when i was driving it. When they ask you how long you've been riding, lie your ass off! (to progressive or whomever you pick) Say you've been riding dirt bikes on a family farm since you were 12, and you will get a significant cut...they don't do background checks or anything Good luck! b

dude, those are awesome!!!! i rode one a couple weeks ago, and it was sooo much fun! oh but i'm sure it will be plenty functional too b

Who's going to the CouchFreaks Boogie??
billo replied to atsaubrey's topic in Events & Places to Jump
LOL Too funny!!! guess i never thought much of the corn since the dz i trained at had corn surrounding it, and i had my first encounter with the corn while still on AFF. last year at the boogie we really lucked out - most of the surrounding fields were beans except for corn in one of the south offs. you either get tripped by the beans or whacked by the corn, depending on preference! i've only landed off at the boogie a time or two, and when i did it would most often be because of a large rw group taking forever on climbout and exit. usually once the SD AZ pilots dial the spot in after the first load, we are good to go the rest of the day! my furthest off landing at the boogie ever was at the ft. dodge high school football stadium, which just happened to be the only clear opening for my CRW load to land. football practice was underway in the adjacent field, and the coach was nice enough to put us all in the back of his pickup and drive us back to the airport! -
Who's going to the CouchFreaks Boogie??
billo replied to atsaubrey's topic in Events & Places to Jump
hi aubrey, good to hear you're going to make it to the boogie! I will be there for sure. i usually end up working in the registration area on thursday and friday, so if you're wondering who i am just ask around for bill-o and someone will point me out. i'm pretty fast too, so we'll have to get a speed dive going or maybe lay a base for something big. -
the standard leg lifts described here are my fav for lower abs - http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/health/bal-hf.fitnessq27jun27,0,3435646.story?coll=bal-health-headlines the thing it leaves out is that you can put your hands under your butt in a triangle shape (thumb to thumb, index to index, palms toward the ground) to keep your lower back more flush to the ground...this especially makes it easier when you first start to work these muscles. once you do these for awhile, you can switch to "prayer" style leg lifts, where you place your palms together in front of your sternum as if you are praying while doing the leg lifts. you should notice that the prayer are considerably tougher. be sure to keep good form when you make the switch! i agree with nightingale though, make sure you do plenty of cardio to burn the fat so that you can see the abs that the leg lifts develop. b

Was the "2" cause you just picked up your 2nd wings, or cause it was 2 brand new ones? Either way, they look great!!! 0:0:0 for me! Sunday was horrible weather, and saturday I was tugged on a tube behind a boat all day. I think some of my falls off that were far worse than i've ever had under a canopy!
-
that is awesome!!!! almost makes me want to track down all my legos from when i was younger and go to town with legos and my video camera!

i don't know if you consider it a game, but i did a freefly scramble meet last weekend and it was awesome!!! (http://www.skydivechicago.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=823) i'd love to do another scramble meet, along with many of the other things in your poll. b

ya what he said, but it just has to be a look at the horizon or something on the ground (something stationary). start with your head, then your torso, and the rest of your body parts will follow.

katie i tell you what, i totally feel your pain on this one!! mine is going on 8 or 9 weeks ago, and it is driving me crazy!!! i bought my camera around week 5, hoping to have it ready and figured out by the time the helmet came in. now i think i would have held off on that longer, and waited for another price drop on the camera. then came the week i thought i would have it for a boogie...no camera! then the next boogie came and went, and still no camera! grrr oh and i forgot to mention the other day when there was a UPS hang tag on my door after work and i got all excited thinking it was my helmet, only to find out it was a CD i had ordered on amazon. at this rate, i may only get 1 boogie out of the helmet this season!!!! i feel for ya...maybe i'll have to get some drinks tonight too! b
