The ONE TRUE Dublin Boogie - The Aftermath Thread:
billo replied to RastaRicanAir's topic in The Bonfire
yeah where were you??? i don't think i got one pic of you, let alone any quality time by the fire? those sunglasses you had made for quite the disguise -
i landed WAAAAY off with mrhixxx saturday evening, probably a handful of loads before sunset. first words i heard from him regarding his malfunction were, "did you see how fucked i was?!" someone else landed off a couple fields to the west of us 1 load later, but we never found out who it was. still working on pictures...they sure help me remember a lot of what went on saturday night, shame that they don't help me remember names!

video tandem question when tandem delays drogue chute
billo replied to airborne82nd's topic in Photography and Video
yep, you'll just start doing all sorts of weird thing to keep up with them, depending on how quickly they pick up the speed, how big the TM or passenger are, etc. to keep up with my tandems who go drogueless for a bit i usually find myself knee flying, headdown, sitting, or just reaching back and grabbing my feet with my hands. the most important part in my opinion is to anticipate when the tandem is picking up more speed than usual and might be going drogueless, so that you can act immediately and gradually "step on the gas" to keep up instead of realizing that you need to play catch up and are already way behind. -
woo hoo! can't wait to make it up and over to brooklyn in a handful of weeks. please pass along any costs (registration, jumps, dinners, etc) as you hear them. later, b

anybody using Canon 17-40mm f/4 L in freefall?
billo replied to The111's topic in Photography and Video
i've got that lens and do use it in freefall on occassion. it's a great kickaround lens on the ground, but i'll probably use it a lot more in freefall once i put it up top of a flattop...between the lens and hood, it is considerably larger than say the 20mm fixed with hood. i love fixed lenses, but there really is no reason not to buy this particular lens...it's great glass. IMO, buy as many different lenses as your wallet can afford so you've always got the right tool for the job! -
no worries, the person who sent the friend request that you deny won't see a thing. here's a fun little movie about myspace, the part about "the angles" cracked me up! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ_dam5DmsM&eurl=

jeez, i can't believe i missed you out in vegas by a couple weeks...d'oh! no SDR poker for me this thursday, as i'll be down in vegas at the tables!

just depends on what you're looking for...ebay is good, but don't overlook good places like b&h...if anything, use them as a pricing reality check. don't spend too much on the memory stick, as you'll quickly bore with a 640x480 still photograph. spend the $ on some quality miniDV tapes instead! :) as for filters/lenses, you've got a TON of choices...best to read up in the photo/video forum for ideas on that stuff.

i'll be there, but w/o a dedicated crw canopy. i've got my spectre 210 and will be willing to dock on or pilot anything or do video/stills of any formations. grab it or wear it! b

What album can you listen to without ever getting tired of?
billo replied to Orange1's topic in The Bonfire
good call! pornography is a great disc. I was actually thinking of listening to "three imaginary boys" ten times over tonight as i kept singing "accuracy" in my head today while on the golf course. my top cure album for never getting tired of though would be "wish". -
sweet, you have another set of dube torches for some passing action???? in school we'd always bust out the torches in front of the library the week before winter finals. i've still got my regular dube clubs and get to play every now and then. i've got to talk hixxx into letting me tag along with him to dublin now!

another bit of clarification... if we set the video to music, do you care if we steal the tunes from a known artist? i'm not much of one of paying for shit :) you guys just don't want me to have a life or ever to get laid, do you? just keep me in my video dungeon...bitches!

there's going to be a tourney? cool, yeah i will play if i make it down there.

sup mike? how's it goin? here's a review of the HC-1...should have all the stats. the HC-1 runs on regular old miniDV tapes, just as you're used to. http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Sony-HCR-HC1-Review.htm as positive as the reviews are here for the HC-1, i think i will wait till 2007 till i start shooting in HD. shit, 60%+ of my customers don't even have a DVD player, why should i think they have a HDTV? as much as i like to put out a quality product for my DZ video, it's the students that pay for it and i can't see the benefit for them as of now for me to buy the HD camera. i've got a 20d as well, and although it's wide, i dont' seen any reason why not to put the 20d and hc1 side-by-side. just be careful! b

hixxx!! want to pick me up on your way towards dublin? let me know how long you want to be down there, i think i can make that weekend happen too.

I've only got the 70-200 f/4, and have found it to be a great lens. The one extra stop of shutter aperture just is not worth it for me in the world of digital photos where i can up the ISO a notch if i really need it. The focus is insane fast, and you can change its seek range from 1.2m->inf to 3m->inf if you know you're shooting stuff that is further than 3m from you, this helps the lens focus even faster. I use mine for swooping, wildlife, and portraits...both handheld and on tripod. At the dog park it will capture sprinting or fetching dogs (much faster than football players) and capture them brilliantly. If I wanted a longer lens than this one (read: if i had the money to spend on a longer lens) I would get a Canon 300 IS prime lens, either f/4 or f/2.8...but as you mention, it does come down to the money you're willing to spend and the quality that you'll be happy with. Unless I win the lottery, I wouldn't see the need to upgrade my 70-200 f/4...to make a long rant short.

oooooooo i like it! i don't know how far back dave has kept track of the thursday games though. i would guess that money won in both the regular and losers' tourney would qualify for being on the total winnings list.

ouch! the truth hurts. past few weeks i have been pretty worthless.

40 shouldn't be a problem...been rising at a solid rate for several weeks!
