I am a mechanical engineer looking for work. I have a strong interest in the aerospace industry, but am willing to work outside of that field. Ideally I would find a job that would keep me in California or Arizona. I know that there are a lot of engineers in skydiving and I was hoping to get some help networking or finding opportunities. Anyone that can help, please PM me or post something here. Thanks! "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I'll make sure to post it after the next time I go to the dropzone. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

We can keep it family friendly. How about you have to spend a day, in public, wearing a Bears jersey? You'd have to post a picture of you wearing the jersey in a public location. And just so you know, I'm not a Bears fan, I just want to get the most out of my bet. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

After having it for almost 10 years, I just sold my first car. I bought my 1996 Ford Mustang a few weeks before I turned 16 and have had it ever since. I had a lot of good times with that car and it was tough to see someone else drive away in it. I can only hope that they take good care of it and enjoy it as much as I did. drive up the night before, or do an all night drive

I would make half the drive Friday night and finish it Saturday morning. That way you're not completely exhausted when you get there Saturday morning. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery -
Five years ago today I made my first skydive. I've had a great time and am looking forward to many more years of good times and blue skies. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

It's great to see you progressing. It took me a while to learn how to relax in freefall. What works for me is closing my eyes and taking some slow, deep breaths a couple minutes before the door is opened. It helps me clear my head so I can focus on the skydive. I had an MRI done on my shoulder. The technician gave me some headphones to wear and before I could complain about the country music being played I was in the machine. It was terrible. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I was fine until I had to climb up onto the edge of the basket. I think it was the silence that really threw me off. No engine noise and no wind noise made seemed to build up the suspense. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I'm having some arthroscopic surgery done on my left shoulder this Friday to clean up the area around my rotator cuff. As far as we know, there is no tear but we won't know for sure until they get in there. The doctor told me that I should expect a recovery time of about 6 weeks. I am not looking forward to 6 weeks spent on the ground, but it will be worth it to not have to live with the constant pain. Is there anybody that went through something like this that can let me know what to expect during recovery? After AFF you'll be given a proficiency card with a number of skills that you need to demonstrate to get your A license. You can find a copy of that card on the USPA website. Your jumps will be a mix of coach jumps and solos. The number of coach jump depends on how quickly you perform the freefall skills on the proficiency card. Gear rental should not be a problem. Every dz I've jumped at had rental gear available. Right now you should be focusing on your AFF. Listen to your instructors and ask questions if you don't understand anything. Have fun and be safe. The Skydiving Season: Best Times to Jump
mrubin replied to n0rbert's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You can get good weather all year round in North America. You just need to go to the right place. Arizona and the Florida dropzones are busier in the winter because the weather is better then. In the summer there are plenty of dropzones farther north that have great dropzones. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery -

New Skydiver... Help me! Haha.

Getting to the dz every other week and getting a couple jumps in each time should be enough to keep you progressing. Remember that as a college student, your main priority should be to get a good education. That way you can get a good paying job and afford to skydive more than a couple times a month.
