On a flight from London to Los Angeles I sat behind Pauley Perrette(Abby from NCIS). I didn't want to bother her during the flight, but after we landed and were waiting to deplane we talked for a couple minutes. She was very nice and friendly, especially considering we had just spent 11 hours on an airplane. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

If you're going to hang out at Elsinore, you should be there this weekend. Chicks Rock is going on and its always a good time. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

A lot of people have trouble getting themselves started. I would recommend reading through this thread and reading the linked cartoons. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4200157;search_string=skydiving%20duck;#4200157 "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

One day it will click and that is an amazing feeling. Then you get to start working on the next skill that hasn't clicked yet. We are all always learning in this sport and mastering one skill means we get to start working on another. So take your time and have fun. As long as you are skydiving, you will be learning, so why rush it? Enjoy the ride. Also, things started clicking faster for me when I started doing yoga. The extra awareness of my body position that I learned in yoga helped a lot in freefall. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Good call! Do not jump until you get this figured out. I know it sucks to sit on the ground, but the potential pain caused by jumping with blocked sinuses sucks a lot more. Plus, you can do long term damage. The sky will still be there, so take the time to get yourself checked out and be sure you can jump safely. The times that I've been there, they've had a night swoop show, but only experienced swoopers were allowed to participate. I don't recall there being any loads just for night jumps. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I just started doing CrossFit a few times a week and am wondering if compression shorts would help my imporve workout and recovery. I've heard a lot of differing opinions so I figured I'd ask here. Will wearing compression shorts help improve my workouts and my recovery? "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I would also suggest that when jumping with other newly licensed skydivers that you keep the group small. It keeps it safer and more fun. Another thing that you might want to think about is finding an experienced jumper to jump with the two of you. That way you can both learn a lot more and jump with each other. Don't believe your parents when they say there's no monster under the bed!

When you're visualizing the skydive, remember to visualize the exit as well. I usually visualize what I'm going to do in slow motion and focus on the key things I need to do to exit stable. If you feel like you're getting burnt out on the swoop and docks, talk to your instructor about doing a jump with different goals. Maybe something that you've done well in previous jumps. Sometimes we just need to boost our confidence to get that next task done. In my very limited experience as a coach, I've found that the students who doubt themselves are a lot easier and a lot more fun to work with than the students that think they've gotten it all figured out. They are often a lot better than they think they are, are actively trying to learn and improve, and have the best reactions when they achieve their goals (seeing this is my favorite part). So cut yourself some slack. Remember that with 14 jumps, you have less than 15 minutes of freefall time. Think how much you've learned and accomplished in that 15 minutes. Breathe, relax, have fun, and stay safe. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I doubt that TSA will rebook you if you miss your flight. They recommend getting there even earlier if you're travelling with a rig so you don't miss it. If you miss the second leg of your trip because of delays on the first, its the airline that rebooks you, not TSA. http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/parachutes You must be present if they are going to open your rig. They will examine it in an area where you have enough space to pack. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I carry my rig on with me. I keep it in a gear bag and it looks just like any other bag. I've never had any trouble getting through security with it. They usually just open up the gear bag and take a look. Sometimes they swab it for explosive residue. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Get a fast jumpsuit. Get used to wearing some weights. Work on flexibility. I've jumped with some smaller people that could arch like crazy and keep up with the bigger guys. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Nervous to jump. Is it ever going to pass?
mrubin replied to proky100's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
With experience, the nervousness lessens but is still there. Having your own gear can help with that. You become familiar with it and you know how its been maintained and that makes it a lot easier to trust your gear. Be ready to chop on every jump, whether you packed it or not. You'll probably be nervous when you start jumping your own pack jobs, but as you build confidence in your abilities it will get easier. But you should always be ready to perform your EPs. Be careful about escalating a prank war. Keep it to pranks that are more annoying than terrifying. You could saran wrap his car, tightly stretch saran wrap over his door frame while he's in his room so he walks into it, get a bunch of phonebooks and fill his doorway, rotate all of his bedroom furniture 90 degrees, etc. "I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
