It is a two-way street. If I make an appointment for 2:30, show up at 2:15 and don't get seen until 3:15 then something is wrong. This happens all the time to me. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

+1 I wish there were a sticky in gear and rigging called "Myths about Reserve Wing Loading" so this wouldn't be discussed every 3 months. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

So my friend offers me a 'business opportunity'...
DiverMike replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
It will be interesting what they say on the phone The contract you sign when you give them $500 explicitly states, "I certify that no claims of guaranteed profits or representations of expected earnings that might result from my efforts as an IR have been made by ACN or my sponsor." For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
What makes this even more interesting is he is totally wrong about FAA Regulations and American law. It has been covered in many threads, but there is absolutely nothing in the FAR's that pertains to exit weight and/or reserve wing loading. There is nothing in the FAR's that says you must follow manufacturers recommendations regarding wing loading. There is nothing in Sec. 91.13 — Careless or reckless operation that applies to operations of parachutes. In the USA you can have an exit weight of 500 lbs and jump any TSO'd reserve and not be violating any laws or regulations. No rigger will get in trouble and no pilot will lose their ticket. It is a bad idea to overload a reserve, but it is 'legal' to do so. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Once again proving the inadequacy of the metric system!
DiverMike replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
I like the idea of using Planck constant, but based on our current technology our measurement of it is only a rough approximation. It currently stands at 6.62606896(33) x 10 -34 with the last two digits in parenthesis denoting the standard uncertainty. The new approximated value is published every 4 years. The little green men may have a more accurate approximation and would laugh at us. Boy would we look silly. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
Once again proving the inadequacy of the metric system!
DiverMike replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Really? How fast is it? Please do not use any man made units in your response. It is a constant - you can use any units to describe it. In fact, it acts as a 'Rosetta Stone' to translate units of measure. If you and a little green man agree to use base 10 mathematics and he indicates the speed of light is approximately '3,234 dinglefarbies per blockenshuts' you would be able to convert dinglefarbies per blockenshut to meters per second. You then agree how many blockenshuts it takes for light to travel a given distance and you will know how many dinglefarbies are in a meter. +1 There is no requirement to operate parachutes within the manufacturers operating limitations. also: Sec. 91.13 — Careless or reckless operation only pertains to aircraft and I have not found any indication that the FAA considers an unpowered parachute an aircraft. This is indicative of one of the problems with Wikipedia. This statement is not supported by fact. It cites no source and gives no detail. I give more credence to film footage and testimony at an inquest. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Slightly off topic, but the insecure little boy in me likes to prove people wrong. You forgot about TI certification: "One of the parachutists using the tandem parachute system . . . Has been certified by the appropriate parachute manufacturer or tandem course provider as being properly trained on the use of the specific tandem parachute system to be used." I think you are drinking Kraft Food Products corporate Kool-Aid. According to wikipedia: "Film footage shot inside the compound prior to the events of November shows Jones opening a large chest in which boxes of both Flavor Aid and Kool-Aid are visible. Criminal investigators testifying at the Jonestown inquest spoke of finding packets of "cool aid"" If I were the Marketing Director at Kraft, I would certainly indicate it was Flavor Aid and not Kool Aid. Are you looking for a definition? Maximum suspended weight is defined as the weight of the jumper (s)including parachute system and all auxiliary equipment attached whenexiting the aircraft. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

This is the annoying thing about the media. There is no direct quote from the Senator that he is convinced he did nothing wrong. This is an assertation from the media that is incorrectly being attributed to the subject of the media report. It is just bad/sloppy reporting. He made a mistake, exercized bad judgement a a pilot, and should have not taken such a cavalier attitude about NOTAMS. He never stated "I am convinced I did nothing wrong." For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

He made a mistake and then completed all of the remedial training the FAA required. I don't see an issue or attitude problem. If the exact same thing happened to John Doe and he responded with he considers the issue closed as well as the FAA does, nobody would care. It isn't like he was jack-hammering a congressional intern on final. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

+1 This describes every Porsche I have ever owned after just a year or so ownership. You are spot on. My daily driver is a Miata and the Boxster sits in the garage covered in a nice warm blanket and plugged into a battery charger and only comes out on sunny days. He was homeschooled. What you call brainwashing others might call parental involvement. He lost his second match in the losers bracket in overtime so the best he can do is 7th place. He probably learned more by sticking to his principles (however misguided they might be considered) than winning the tournament. As far as bringing in the FSM with all his noodly appendages, putting women on a pedestal and not rolling around on the floor with them is one of the least offensive religous beliefs I can think of. The kid will probably be alright. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

What makes it more amazing is the guy was 3rd place finisher last year. The chances of him losing to this girl were very small. After winning by default, she was pinned in her next two matches. Getting pinned at a state tournament is unusual. Getting pinned twice is unheard of. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Staff Drug Testing as a Condition of Employment.
DiverMike replied to matthewcline's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My apologies. Are you indicating you can't think of a single horrendous criminal activity that doesn't have a 'bearing on job performance' that would make you want to at least put that employee on unpaid administrative leave? I must have an overactive imagination because I can think of thousands. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -

Staff Drug Testing as a Condition of Employment.
DiverMike replied to matthewcline's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think if you make it that simple, then everyone will agree that employers should be able to discriminate. A pedophile who kills puppies in his free time has no bearing on his job performance, but I feel I should be able to terminate his employment because he is engaged in criminal activity. Staff Drug Testing as a Condition of Employment.

This whole sharia thing can be simplified by saying that the government is trying to legislate morality. Pot is safer than alcohol by every measurement. The government considers pot smokers to be bad and immoral under all conditions (including medical), and drunks to be socially acceptable under certain conditions (adults not operating heavy machinery). The research does not support the governments position that pot is illegal and alcohol is legal. It doesn't make sense. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
+1 I had a 914 that was pretty easy to work on. I now have a Boxster and it isn't. A 944 is more along the lines of 914 as far as being able to maintain it yourself. If you try to take it to a dealer they will charge you just to laugh at you. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
