It's hard to keep up with what each person is arguing for. So what is your point? Or are you just arguing for the fun of it? -

No, I didn't miss that point. I just don't think that banning things will keep guns out of the hands of crazy people, especially things that are in such high numbers already in the hands of the general public. -

Cho wasn't a determined criminal, Loughner wasn't a determined criminal, Lanza wasn't a determined criminal, Kazmierczak wasn't a determined criminal... They were all mentally ill people who had way too easy access to firearms. Now you want to get into what 'determined' means and that is just silly. These people went out of their way to kill people. Banning things does not magically make them go away or even make them harder to get. Illegal drugs are easy to get despite the 'War on Drugs'. Prohibition didn't get rid of alcohol or really make it harder to get. There are millions of semi auto rifles, hand guns and high capacity magazines in the US. Banning them will just create a huge black market where they won't care how sane you are or what your background is. -

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/teachers-armed-guns-texas-school-article-1.1224257 Active security is much better then just passive security. Passive security measures can be defeated and then if you don't have any thing else you are screwed. -

If a criminal get's past a good lock then a gun sure can stop them. They can't do anything if they are dead. -

Now you are just being silly. Having a good front door and lock, alarm system, gratings on your windows won't stop a determined criminal. And in those cases calling 911 won't stop them either. -

That could be said about all problems. The best solution to car accidents is to not have them... and on and on. Not having guns around is something that can not be changed in any realistic time frame. Considering the gun culture in the US it's not politically viable option. Banning guns will only create a black market and won't make them harder to get or unavailable. Your suggestions are unrealistic. -
If AR15s are banned will the cops be fighting owners in the streets?
beowulf replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
That would be likely in certain areas. -
The logistics of that are very difficult. If no one reports the private sale transfer then how would anyone know to prosecute it? Transfer is recorded, in database. Gun checks required when you go to the range. No record, call police. If no one reports the transfer then how will it get into the database? People will just avoid using gun ranges. Lots of people have private shooting ranges. Many people never shoot the guns they own.

There is no lock will work a 100%. Prevention doesn't work. You can't stop 100% of all crazies from getting in. In the real world if you can't defend yourself when someone decides they want to kill you, you are screwed. The police are minutes away when seconds count. The first line of defense is your self. -

That retarded polarised view of the world is really not helping America. This whole problem is about grey areas. I don't know who pulls Wayne's strings, but man did they get this one wrong. Wayne sounds like a complete idiot this time. I entirely disagree. What he said is realistic and he is right.
-
Money where their mouth is? Their solution is more guns, what a bold fucking move. And that nut did not have the balls to take any questions, what a pussy. Do you really think there is any more realistic solution? Banning guns or high capacity magazines won't make them go away.

I have my CHL. I will draw down on crazy person trying to kill people. Other CHL holders will do the same and try and protect themselves and those around them. The thing is banning guns wont stop them from getting them.
-
How many people did he kill? There is no way to stop a truly determined crazy person. They will be able to arm themselves regardless of anything you have proposed and they will do their best to kill people. But not having people there to stop them is just shirking our duty to protect our children.

I don't think airport type security is really possible in every single school. Armed teachers would minimize fatalities. I also suggested having armed security guards/LEO's. I read about a school here in Texas that did arm their teachers. Not that dumb of an idea in my opinion.

All sides are doing it. I've yet to hear someone decline to comment out of respect for those lost. Everyone wants to fix the problem. But the problem is what the D's are proposing doesn't fix the problem or even contribute to fixing the problem. The problem is schools are vulnerable to crazy gunman. I can't think of any way to eliminate crazy people who want to kill others from the world or any realistic way to keep guns out of their hands. So a proactive defense is what I think is the best solution.

I disagree. Preventative measures would also work on mass shootings in locations other than schools. Hence, spending the same effort and finances on preventative measures will have a much broader reach then just defending schools. And for the millionth time, I will clarify that preventative measures does not mean banning guns. There is much more involved than just guns. And that is why nothing you propose will make any difference. Preventative measures don't work. Defensive measures are needed. So instead of locking the door you stand there with a gun to defend the door. Not sure I understanding the difference between prevention and defense. Could a rubber do both, prevent unwanted pregnacy and defend against disease? In this case the doors were locked and the crazy guy with the gun got in anyway. Prevention didn't work. A defensive position would have had a much better chance of working. Nothing is perfect. -
Yeah I can agree with you. The Democrats want to take advantage of this tragedy to push their agenda.
-
You are right on that. The difference is the culture and like it or not we have a huge gun culture here in the US and it's been that way since the beginning.
-
Mexico has much stricter gun laws and yet the cartels have no trouble getting guns.
-
Criminals can buy them cheaper and they are not unavailable. Also there are millions more semi auto weapons in private hands in the US so the inventory is much bigger and a black market for them would be much larger. The only think your added gun control would do is criminalize more people.

No problem. Do a search for Class 3 firearms. A full auto Thompson runs about $15,000 to $20,000
