Manufacturer Support of Fundraising Efforts
upndownshop replied to NWFlyer's topic in Gear and Rigging
You are correct that they get tons of these requests. As a rep. myself (up until a few months ago) its still not an excuse. In my almost 8 years of a boogie organizer (a fund raiser as well, and specifically for skydivers) it took a while to get used to that. Its even worse when they promise to attend the event then dont show. Although I must say that has happened only twice so I cant complain too much. One had a very valid excuse, yet a notice would have been appreciated. We stopped doing boogie bags 5 years ago, or requesting a box of items, too expensive for the mfrs and too time consuming for me. Of course we have many mfrs attend our event so they just hand out items as requested. If you have Sept 06 Issue of Skydiving Mag. there is an article on "How SF Boogies are ran" there is some good stuff on how to deal with the mfrs. We have been very successful with the mfrs, I have left all of them on our site in two locations for years. I wouldnt worry about it, just know that it might happen again. Maybe have a "ship" date when requesting items, thus giving them a time line to work with. Bet I can guess who it was though... I wouldnt post it, as they say sh$^ happens and they might do a better job for you next year if you dont burn any bridges now. good luck with the next one -
The one I saw was at SD Dallas right before the last SkyFest event there, which was......oh 2003. They had asked to come to SF at SD Spaceland the following year. I think they were based out of Conroe Tx. I remember it was really noisy, I had there contact info but Verizon was kind enough to erase all of my phone numbers earlier this year. I have searched but cannot find them again. Im looking for it to be in Muskogee Oklahoma June 20-29th 2008. I am not picky about which tunnel, the one I saw maybe be an "outdated" version, just a guess so I am very open to any tunnel. Thanks for your help J

Im sick of your positive attitude!! You should join the rest of the world and be pissy, angry, and negative all the time. Why not "Everyone is doing it"? Be well J

I hope I didnt come across as he was bashing the jumpers, they are great people as he assumed they are. I agree with the skyride "stand" unfortunatly I feel like I am "f#$^$^d" from where I am at right now. Of course skinny will just come back and say that I dont jump enough anyway to make a difference.. LOL

And of course I will be there next weekend for the first time in a while, but i hear by 2pm on sunday everyone is done jumping ok bash on folks.............denial is a bitch but love that dz anyway, yes skinny i will jump there, between the pilot and the ac operator they are the best in the country! not to mention my fathers last breath was there, of course before the current mgr. But I will trust the pilot and mechanic with all that I have, and even my life no questions asked.

What would you pay for a 1998 javelin j3 w/ 600 jumps?
upndownshop replied to norcalbaker's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yeah, more than one is really pushing it. More rigs today are becoming more canopy "specific" so tolerance is limited. The new Odyssey only has velcro on the reserve and cutaway handles and a small piece for the SkyHook. Not even one for the bridle at the closing flap anymore. So no exposed velcro, its about time for rigs to get rid of velcro. J -
Voted great shots Cora!

Everyone keeps referring to the 80's do I not rememebr them in the mid 70's or even earlier? I seem to remember they started dissapearing after Snyders square came out which would have been what 72? Hell, my first jump was a static lined square in 1984, heck I might have been the first student to jump a square in Texas. Did a one foot stand up in the peas, of course Bob Chaffin talked me in with the radio strapped to the top of my helmet, dad threw me out of the 182 (they didnt trust him to bring me back to the dz

Yeah, like the fact that overstuffed rigs look like shit and the fact that packing 170 sq ft of slippery snot into a bag designed to hold 150 sq ft of slippery snot isn't much fun (especially for those who don't know who to pack yet), which in and of itself can and has led to people downsizing prior to their skills being ready for it. But it can be fun to watch and listen to some poor newbie struggling far more than is necessary to pack their main... may i assume when you say slippery you are referring to new canopies, i was suggesting used (may not of actually said that though) I also suggested talking to a rigger, instructor etc, thus getting proper guidance on which canopy. Yes "overstuffed" rigs do look like shit and can affect functionality as well. I have always found that two sizes up gets in the "overstuffed" category not one. Again my thoughts are based on most rigs and usually only the larger containers not suggesting to downsize prematurely I probably should not post past 1am anymore -

like i said i was just being sarcastic, so yes i was being an ass. just reacting to "better than javelin" maybe you were referring to that particular rig..... good for you for becoming a rigger -

Uh ooh, another no named newbie giving advice? -
My X had the same problem, she chose to chop it, which I am glad, she is not the best with canopy control. Her rigger Suzie still denies doing it. Ultimately it is the jumpers responsibility but for a rigger not to accept it was irritating. But all is well now, they are rommates and neither jumps so at least they are safe. So glad it didnt happen on landing for both of you.

Most comtainers will allow for one up or one down for the main, so if he knows he will be in say a 150 then build it for that and stuff the 170 in it till ready. There are other things to consider of course, but this way he always a comfortable worry free container. Gosh: 3k glad I havent had to buy new containers in 6 years (yet I have had 7 in that time period). Probably closer to 2200 or 2400 isnt it these days. I know Sun Path just had an increase but have the others followed yet? And your right, the hornet does fly nice. -

upndownshop replied to norcalbaker's topic in Gear and Rigging
I wouldnt, save longer and get a $3,000 used rig. A hornet compared to a pilot, yup thats about right no matter how the openings are. Or buy a new Javelin, anticipate what you will be jumping and buy used canopies, talk to a rigger, instructor, or your local gear store. Yes I said that DougH, But you got a deal,,yes? -
Her? Have no idea, but she is worth $89.00 on ebay, only 10,000 made and sold out??? But I do know a few skydivers that made it to playboy...
