Don't apologize for asking "noob questions". That's the only way you learn stuff. What's the danger? That the relative wind will open up something that you don't want opened. Premature openings, main or reserve, aren't fun. Horseshoes (from the bridle coming out and tangling) aren't either. Having the risers pop out and then having the toggles whip around can lead to some very interesting situations. Look at the rig. Bridle routing/protection, main and reserve pin protection, riser protection. "Freefly Friendly" rigs have everthing protected from the airflow coming from the different directions and at the higher speeds that the rig is exposed to during freeflying. An original V2 doesn't. Again, look at the rig and if you can, do a side-by-side comparison with a newer, FF friendly rig. Backflying directly exposes the pins and bridle to the airflow, but not at the extreme speeds. Should you? That's a question that you really should ask your local rigger, instructors or S&T A. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I saw the Lavender ice cream in the other thread. I know Lavender as a color, and as a flowery scent. What flavor is it??? And yes, I'm an ignorant Yank, so it may be something really obvious to you. So we can make PAs and other prohibited behavior against/about the obvious sock puppets?? (mostly a joke for those with no sense of humor ) No. (mostly for those inclined to do so anyway. ) Awwww, shucks (kicks dejectedly at the dirt) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Reason number one: Most here in the US have no idea how bad a default could get. If prices rise so high (hyperinflation) that real problems start, problems like food shortages and fuel shortages (winter is coming mind you), it may get ugly. Reason number two: The government has a few tools to stop that sort of thing from happening. They've used most of the simple, economic ones trying to get the economy going, but the US produces a whole lot of food, and could probably feed ourselves without help. It would get really messy, and would mean the downfall of the US as a superpower, but we'd get through it. Reason number three: Most of the paranoids stockpiled guns and ammo in the aftermath of Obama's election, expecting a bunch of new gun control laws. For a while, AR-15s were on a six to nine month wait. Ammunition was in a similar situation. Very hard to find certain calibers, and very expensive when you could find it. That's it. And on Youtube you can re-run it well enough to see that any recoil the monkey experiences is both CGI and far less than a real AK (yes, monkeys are strong, but not that strong). There's also zero smoke ("smokeless" powder really isn't) and only a couple bullet impacts from the first burst. No ricochets, or even damage from the others. Cute but fake. There's plenty of blame to go around, but it seems to me that the Republicans are less willing to back down and have more of the blame (and I vote R far, far more than D). The R's are completely unwilling to give up their "No New Taxes" policy, and that's impossible to do. There's no real way to cut the budget down enough to matter. Tying the debt ceiling to debt reduction, while a noble idea, isn't going to happen without revenue enhancement. Unfortunately, the R's have painted themselves into a corner. They can't go back on their "No Taxes" policy (remember Bush #1?) and they can't tie the debt ceiling to lower deficits without doing so. There also seems to be a small number of the Tea Party type that actually want to see a default, in order to get the kinds of cuts that will balance the budget. I think they are more than just a little naive about the consequences that we will face if that happens. What I'd really like to see is adults running the country. But they are smart enough not to run for election. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

And that is approximately the type of intent of the comment that started this whole thing, but damn some people can get their kickers in a twist over the the smallest and silliest of comments. They have no sense of humor whatsoever. Pity. I think language is fun. I think a lot of humor comes out of the ambiguity of it. I doubt Abbot and Costello would have had such a successful career if it didn't. Who's next?? And I agree that way too many people take themselves way, way too seriously on here. "There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17. 'The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.'" -- Jules FYI: Ezekiel 25:17 King James Version (KJV) 17And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them. Yes, the "quote" in the film is not actually in the Bible. I like the one Jules uses better than the real one. Quentin Tarentino writes the most amazing dialog, among the best in the business. Well, let's just say it's the bizarre alter ego at the other end of the IP address associated with only one other person on this web site. The alter ego pops up from time to time when the regular person is having a bad day, says things the regular user would never say and sully his "good name" with and then slinks back into the darkness. Ya know, it's not exactly hard for the mods to track these things. Right. But I'm not a mod so I just have to guess. Does this mean you are going to host the game?? Edit to add: I thought all you mods were flaming liberals who only cut fellow liberals slack. The conservatives get struck down with great vengance and furious anger, doomed to a lesser existence, barred from DZ.com. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." What I do? Let me know so I know what to stop. I thought I was just goin with the flow of the way everyone else talks around here. 16 post and no profile, your not to be taken seriously. Ghostpilot and parahog are the same. Yes, it seems that way. But who?? Most of the sock puppets are easily recognizable. cliffwhite and jimbrown and the new one that came up after he actually learned to use the "shift" button are easy. This one is a little harder. There should be a "Name That Sock Puppet" game on here. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
way to stay classy.. Give me a break - she was no saint and no one forced her to live the life she did. No, but she was still a person. She probably had people who loved her who were torn apart by what she was doing and did to herself, and miss her and mourn her deeply. (yes, a very run-on sentence) She was given the opportunity to get help. For whatever reason she chose not to accept that help. And now she's dead. A sad, sad story that has been told before and will be told again. About people both famous and not. Maybe, just maybe, someone will hear the story, look at their own life and get some help. My dog loves shark fishermen Well, yes...they DO smell bad, don't they? One of our dogs here has an uncanny ability to find dead animals in the woods. That's great, but he insists on bringing them back to the hangar to show off his prowess. He thinks he's a cat, I guess. One of the regular dogs at my DZ found a dead skunk in the cornfield. Not just a dead animal, not just a skunk. A dead skunk. He was banished to the far, downwind side of the DZ for the rest of the day. The owner drove home at high speed, all the windows down and still barely managed not to puke. And that was after a hose down. (where's the "puking" emoticon when you really need it?) Not really. They were having what could be classed as a "private conversation" even though it was out on the street. It has the same protections as a phone conversation. The link below talks about the "reasonable expectation of privacy" even if it's out on a public street. There was a motorcyclist who got arrested for this for recording the cop with his helmet-mounted camera (GoPro?) under the same sort of law. The charges were later dropped IIRC, not sure under what circumstances, but the law is still there. http://www.citmedialaw.org/legal-guide/california-recording-law "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." True. But will the extemists on both sides dump the moderate politicians now in office for more extremist candidates (think Michelle Bachman)? I don't doubt we will wiggle out of this situation with the debt celing, but I seriously doubt they will be able to find or sustain any real, long term solution. They will just keep "kicking the can down the road" like always. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." The funny part about this is that most schools are funded from local property taxes and many school districts and local and state governments have to run a balanced budget. It's the FEDERAL government that has been running unchecked deficits. Which is where the problem lies. The rest of it, the fact that everybody wants stuff cut, just not their stuff is absolutley correct. We are going to have to pay higher taxes and lose a bunch of entitlements and services to get out of this. I'm just not sure the politicans will be willing to do that. And yes, I'd be willing to pay higher taxes for the services I get. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I defy you to find an authoritative source to 100% support that position. I doubt that there is one. I'd guess that there is a certain amount of regionalism to the differences between "This" and "Next" in this sort of context. I would personally call Nov of 11 "This November" and mean Nov of 12 if I said "Next November". But that's just me. I learned this week that the phrase "Just Now" means "Near Future" to South Africans. Saying "I'll be back just now" can mean anything from "In five minutes" to "In a couple days" or even longer. It doesn't make any sense to me (or to the Brit or the Kiwis I was sitting with), but that's how they say stuff. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Nice work by the cop. I'm guessing that their department is aware of all the negative publicity from the (multiple) incidents involving citizens videoing cops. And have probably developed a policy about it. That cop was calm, cool and in control. Very professional. Far, far different from the one in Ohio. And the guy with the gun was obviously trolling for an confrontation like that. With the camera and no ID on him, he was pushing buttons. Legally and within his rights, but clearly pushing. I'll give him credit. Risking the possible consequences in order to exercise his rights. Just like the civil rights protestors in the 60s. Last thing - although he was not violating any laws videoing the incident, recording audio of it is a different matter. California is a "Two Party Consent" state. Both parties in the conversation have to consent (or at least be made aware) to the recording. The cop could have politely pointed that out to the dude. Something along the lines of "I'm not going to cite you for it, but you might want to check Califronia's laws on audio recording. While the video camera is legal, recording the audio without my consent isn't." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Right. Because there's no way it's going to go off track if you type a word as a hyphenate when it's not. Oddly enough, it hypenates at the line break on my screen. And on the little "text entry" screen too. Which is appropriate if you want the columns to come out even but can't adjust the spacing. It doesn't do it properly in the "reply to" part of my post, but the spacing and positioning changes for that anyway. Not necessary here, but not wrong IMO. Yep, way off track for silly little things. But that seems to be what you are doing today QUade, so I thought I'd play too. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Definitely. I'm sorta partial towards all the "Princess Leia as Jabba's slave girl" metal bikinis, but some of the others are pretty hot. I'm not too sure about #45 though. Eddie Murphy had a point.
