    DOMA

You can "support" the idea of marriage being between one man and one woman all you want without being called "intolerant", "homophobic", or a "bigot." Nobody is requiring you to marry someone of the same sex, attend any weddings, send gifts to the couple or anything like that (which would be in direct support of gay marriage). But when you want to deny the benefits, entitlements, rights, whatever that a couple gets based on what sex each individual is, then you are being intolerant. I found it interesting that the business world was unanimously in support of the SC repealing DOMA. There was an amicus brief filed by someone that had more pages of businesses that supported it than pages of the actual brief. And absolutely zero that called for keeping DOMA. Their main argument was that it was a huge pain in the ass to have to have 2 different benefit packages for the different types of couples. (on NPR's All Things Considered on Tuesday). 2. Way more effort than I would have undertaken. But still cool. And every once in a while you see a post where somebody forgets to "close" the bold, italics, or url and it goes on all the way through the sigline to the end of the post. I wonder how long it's going to take the usual suspects to get in trouble with it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 3. Thank God someone has developed an app to determine the current weather at their current location. How on Earth could you do that without a fancy smart phone? Well there's always a Weather Rock "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  4. Yeah, it would. I wonder how someone would find out the code to do that? Just hit quote on that post and you'll see the code in the new window. Thanks Lisa! Yes, I know that trick. I was being a little silly. I still want to know how she found it though. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 5. Yeah, it would. I wonder how someone would find out the code to do that? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. You can compress it in a windsock. Air blows in, but can't escape as fast as it would like to, so the sock inflates. The pressure rises in proportion to the wind velocity, so the higher the wind, the "firmer" the sock becomes. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. Yeah, that movie had a bunch of that sort of "back and forth" across time. Another one:" You may be hot shit wherever you come from, but here you're just another rookie" (or something like that) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 8. Huh? Since when did air become a "non-compressible liquid"? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  9. It was called "Shoot to Kill" here in the US. Pretty good movie too. "You mountain men do this shit all the time?" "Every damn day!" "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  10. You feel more bouncing around because the bugger canopy is going slower and has more area to create more lift. If you think about kites, a bigger kite will pull harder on the string when a gust hits it, right? But bigger canopies are less affected by a partial collapse, and will reinflate with less altitude loss (because they descend slower). So they are safer. And the advice about watching who sits down when the winds pick up is a good one. If the "old farts" sit down while the "young'uns" keep jumping, think about it. When the "old farts" grab cameras and lawn chairs and go out to watch the "young'uns" landing... Think about it very hard. As in: "Why are you going out there with the camera?" (Old fart responds)"We're gonna watch the young'uns gain some valuable experience about winds and turbulence" "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. Nah, Ron would never have been able to pretend to be nice for this long. He'd have had a meltdown by page 3. Or he would have explained how the conversions from gay to straight came at the same time as being "Saved" by Jesus. I agree that it's not Ron. He wasn't banned or anything. He's off hiding in the Georgia mountains, waiting for Armageddon. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 12. Well, I saw some very positive recognition of catching a freebag once. SDC Summerfest 2 years ago. Charles the video guy was the one. He was walking down the road towards the Tiki Bar when someone hollered "Hey!!! LOOK UP!!!!" he stopped, looked up, stuck his hand out and caught it without taking another step. The ground crew had taken off on one of the 4-wheelers for the cutaway main. All the gear was back at the hangar before the jumper. It was pretty cool. And yes, trying to catch it in the air is pretty stupid. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  13. Is it wrong if someone votes to re-segregate the schools? Is it wrong if someone votes to require women to wear headscarves? I happen to think that if your beliefs require other people to forfeit their rights, then yes it is wrong to vote for your beliefs. Some things shouldn't be subject to referendum. Civil and personal rights are one of them. GeorgiaDon put it very nicely. You aren't a hick, but please stop trying to force your beliefs on people who may not believe the way you do. 14. Pretty much. It isn't all that hard. Decent soil, good sun and keep them watered. Yank out the weeds before they take over. 10-15 minutes a day keeps the weeds down. I compost my kitchen scraps and use that for fertilizer (I don't use chemical fertilizers). Where I live, a six-pack of starter veggies is a buck or two for the littlest ones. Get a couple of what you think you'd like to eat and give it a try. All you'll be out is a couple bucks if it fails. I've been growing a basic garden for a number of years. Tomatoes, broccoli, cucumbers, Brussels sprouts. I tried peas, spinach and a couple other things that didn't work. I grew cauliflower fairly successfully, but my (now ex-) wife was the one who wanted that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 15. No. That isn't how our government works. We aren't a democracy. We are a republic. And the constitution was specifically written to prevent the majority from running roughshod over the minorities. It hasn't always worked out that way, but that's what's supposed to happen. Again, who told you it was ok to deny other people the same rights that you have? You seem to be hung up on a complete lack of racial identification (human isn't a race, it's a species). And I really, really doubt that your GPs told the Mississippi clerk of courts that their race was "human." You already stated that your brother (?) had to go well up the chain of command at college to put that on his application. I don't think that a county official would have done anything but deny the application if it wasn't filled out correctly. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  16. Why not? The ability of a minority to have the same opportunities as the rest of the majority is the basis of all civil rights movements. Just because you think that being gay is a choice and you think it is an immoral behavior doesn't give you the right to deny other people opportunities. And what if it really is a choice. Most behavioral science has shown that it isn't, but what if it is? What gives you the power to decide that someone else's choice is wrong? As long as both parties are consenting adults, and no one is being hurt, who gave you the power to control their life? Who made you the arbitrer of their rights? That desire to control other people and the apparent belief that it's ok to do so is rather offensive to me. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 17. I hope you find someone to shut him down. He has to be alive to be mad at you. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  18. I've never done from seed. I always buy the little 3" plants in the "6 packs." Usually the beginning of April. I put them in bigger pots and keep them on my kitchen table until Memorial Day. Last frost date and soil temps keep them inside until then. I plant them, put cages around them and water them. I usually go heavier on the cherry or grape tomatoes, with a couple of plants of full size. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. Really? Never knew that. No soul either. So we can't be pirates. Ok, now I'm confused. First, Ski tells me how redheads live , now , are you saying we can't be pirates? Correct. We (I'm one too) are different. If we could only go out in the daylight, we could take over. http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s09e11-ginger-kids "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. A couple things - First off, the protocol of having the seller ship the gear to a rigger/loft/DZ is pretty standard in the sport. You can search "Rigger as Escrow" for a lot of info. As DaveLepka said, Chutingstar does the escrow part for free. Standard fees for inspection and shipping (you can find those on the Chutingstar website) and a lot of peace of mind. Many DZs/rigging lofts do something similar. And the "Holder" for the escrow doesn't have to be a DZ, store, or even a rigger. It can be any third party that both the buyer and the seller can agree on. OTOH, there are a number of smaller, but well known, reliable and trustworthy dealers who put their stuff on the classifieds here. Don't be too surprised if you get something like "I'm a dealer, you can ask about my reputation. I don't do escrow." You can then check them out (either at your dz or on here) and decide if you want to deal with them their way or not. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. Yep. Death penalty automatic appeals that take years and years in courts, accumulation of court and attorney costs, etc... It's fucking ridiculous, but I guess that's the price to make absolutely sure you're offing the right person. And the wrong person still ends up on death row over and over and over again. Some of them even get offed. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  23. Well, there are some societal benefits to marriage. Or some sort of stable partnership for raising a family. Too many studies, and just basic observation show the benefits of raising kids in a stable, 2 parent environment. So even though I'm not married, and I don't have any kids, I think having some level of "special treatment" for married couples is a good idea. FWIW, I also happily pay property taxes that support public schools because I believe that there's a benefit to educating the little monsters, even though none are mine. And I really don't care if it's a "right" a "benefit" or an "entitlement" that the married couples receive. Call it what you like. What does matter is that certain groups are excluded from those things, simply because some people don't like it. That's where I see it as a "civil right." Not because the benefits, entitlements or whatever are "rights", but because one group gets them and another doesn't. 60 years ago, any pair who was of different races were excluded. Now it depends on the sex of the partners. I find it odd that a man can gain these things by marrying a woman, but a woman can't (not by marrying a woman anyway, she has to marry a man). 25. Always heard of the furniture store "Sofa King", where prices are Sofa King low!
