  1. I think the funniest part of this is how he seems to be surprised that someone would "care about bringing me (him) down." He openly states that his intentions are to make people angry. He says outrageous things that are clearly intended to anger people he opposes. He gloats about making those people angry. And when these people go digging through his past and find some statements that can be used against him, he's surprised that they make his life difficult. He certainly has the right to say what he wants. In any manner. But to think that there would be no consequences for statements that are that inflammatory is pretty stupid. 2. ^This. Only thing missing is the fact that the Pro-Tec actually offers some protection for your head. The "skydive specific" helmets don't offer much more than "bump and scrape" protection. 3. 9 cars/trucks plus 4 motor cycles. 6 cars were daily drivers, 3 were summer 'fun' cars. 78 Pontiac Sunbird right out of High School. V-6 & 4 speed made it a lot of fun. Beat the crap out of it and ended up junking it. 83 Full size Chevy 4x4 pickup. Drove it for about 8 years. Replace the motor with a junkyard 350, built it up (headers, intake & carb, cam) as it wore out. Box was really rusted and I sold it. 83 Chev Celebrity that was my folks car. Bought it from them for next to nothing. Motor, trans, brakes, steering were all on the way out. Sold it to a work friend who fixed all the mechanicals (body & interior were very nice) and made a bit of money selling it. 92 Saturn. Bought it new. Nice car. But I missed having 4 wheel drive and decent clearance in the Wisconsin winter. Sold it to a work friend for his wife. 97 ZR2 Blazer (the S-10 sized one). Bought new, special order. Only one with a 5 speed that I ever saw. Great truck. Had it for 18 years, sold it 2 years ago. 85 Toyota MR2. Paid $300 for it, put another $300 for a water pump & alternator. Awesome car. Total go kart. 2 seater, mid engine. Not super powerful but super small & light. Very rusty. Sold it after a year to a neighbor. He drove it for a year and then the front suspension fell apart. 83 Porsche 944. Saw it sitting in a lot when I had the MR2. Took a look and test drive and was hooked. Kind of beat up, repaired wreck (body not quite straight) but a lot of fun. Did a fair amount of work on it, still have it. 85 Porsche 928. (This is the same model that 'went swimming' in "Risky Business") After owning the 944 for 7 years or so, decided I wanted to upgrade and after a bit of research, the 928 was the best 'bang for the buck'. Found a good online community, lots of support, advice and parts. Looked around for a while and found this one. It's taken a good bit of work, but I drove it out to California with my mom back in 2014/ Awesome roadtrip in a car that's designed for long distance, high speed luxury cruising. Tried to sell the 944, but no buyers. It has issues and nobody was willing to pay my ask. So I had 2, plus the Blazer for work and winter. 05 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (the SUV). The online forum for the 928 is a good group. Some guys have more than one. Some have a lot more. One of the regulars pointed out that a 10 year old Cayenne with over 100k on it goes for well under $20k. Really. So I started looking. After about 6 months or so, this one popped up locally. Great shape, a few issues, nothing unexpected for the car at the age and mileage. Full records, all work done at the dealer. Paid $16k for it (sticker back in 05 was $93k). Sold the Blazer over C/L to a college kid from Upper Michigan. So now I have 3 Porsches. See pic. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. While those sort of things do happen, and are a travesty of justice, at least those defendants had their "day in court." They also had the right of appeal and humane treatment (well, mostly anyway). Gitmo detainees have none of these. They don't even have a legitimate status. The term "enemy combatant" was made up for them. They have none of the rights of POWs, nor those of civilian detainees. The excuse was given that as terrorists, they were neither civilians nor soldiers. So they didn't fit those categories. Unfortunately, the Geneva Convention covers civilian irregulars (partisans or guerrillas). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 5. I don't see any problem. Well (from the story): Apparently he didn't have a problem with it either. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. You assume innocence. I make no such assumption. You do realize that presumption of innocence until guilt is proven is one of the basic rights in the BOR, right? You do realize that the detainees were put in Gitmo (on Cuban soil) to deliberately evade the idea that the rights laid out in the BOR would apply to them, as would happen if they were on US soil, right? 7. Well, that sounds about typical for a Trump event. I don't know what I find more incredulous: The idea that Trump and his minions thought that having his wife read a prayer would make people think that they were actually religious The fact that it seems to have worked, at least for some of the more gullible ones. 8. One thing about the ITNs; The IRS is not allowed to share data with ICE. So illegals are able to pay taxes properly without fear of exposure. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  9. With a new spelling for his name. Again. Coreece, coreeece, coerce, correece, now corrreece. At least JR showed a little bit of imagination. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  10. It probably will. Since we have examples in the past of what can happen when you DON'T speak up and work to stop injustice and tyranny, there's more of an impetus to do so now. Between the press reporting on his actions and the majority of American voters who oppose him, there's enough awareness and ability to take action to prevent those past abuses. and the probability is what I am not so sure of... Nobody's sure of anything. But initial reactions are encouraging. The courts stopped the "Muslim Ban" and while Trump threw a fit, most people applauded. The crowds protesting the ban itself outnumbered the crowds protesting the court rulings by a huge margin. Social media is going pretty much bananas. While it really doesn't accomplish much, it gets the message out there. One serious one I've seen: First they came for the Muslims and we said "No fucking way! NOT THIS TIME!!!" One less serious: First they came for the scientists. And the National Park Service said "LOL, no." And then they went rogue. And we were all like "I was not expecting the park rangers to lead the resistance. None of the dystopian novels I read prepared me for this. But, cool." The media isn't playing along. There are more than a few Rs in Congress who aren't playing along either. The "checks and balances" in the system seem to be working. Even if Trump doesn't want them to or even seem to understand what they are. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. All of the above did. They're called "editors". It's the editor's job to take the author's work and make it salable. That might include correcting grammatical errors, it might include changing or removing various parts for various reasons. In the case of King, his short story "Mrs Todd's Shortcut" was rejected because it contained the phrase "a woman will pee down her leg if she doesn't squat." (It's in "Skeleton Crew" and the details are in the "Notes") In King's novel "The Stand", the original version was shortened considerably. Not because of editorial issues, but cost issues. The publisher thought the full length book would be too expensive and wouldn't sell. Of course, King ended up popular enough that the full version was released and sold very well. If an author feels that his work is being altered too much, he or she has the option of not publishing that work with that publisher. Contractual obligations aside, there are lots of ways to get work out there without the interference of a "sensitivity reader" if the author chooses. But, as was noted, it seems to be the "right wing conservatives" who are the ones banning the books. They are the ones who seem too sensitive to understand that if they don't like a particular work, they don't have to read it. Liberals may call a book "offensive" and organize a boycott of the author. But most of them understand the importance of free speech and don't call for the banning of things they don't like. The phrase "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it" comes to mind. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 12. I didn't see that at all in any of the responses. You asked a fairly typical question. "Can I jump with a piece of equipment not designed for skydiving?" The answer is generally "You can, some people do, but you are better off using the right tool for the job." Which is what you got for responses. Nothing wrong with asking, as long as you are open to an answer you might not like. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. Well, the inflatable tubes are pretty cool. You can go down a snow covered hill or get towed behind a boat. Personally, though, I'd recommend a "traditional" toboggan. A while back (like 20+ years), we used to spend breaks at work combing through the local "ad paper" and commenting on interesting stuff being advertised. One of my all-time favorites was when a local quarry was looking for someone with an explosives license. Came across a toboggan for something like $20. Old school, wood. 8 foot long, 2 foot wide. No brakes, no steering, no seat belts. Straight out of "Calvin & Hobbes." It was in decent shape, so I got it. It comfortably carries two adults and two kids. The more on it, the faster it goes. I won't use it on any hill that has any obstacles. But it's an absolute hoot. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 14. Do you really think you can post that and expect to be taken as a decent human being? Just by calling it joking? Why not? Trump was recorded bragging about committing sexual assault and apparently his supporters think he's a "decent human being". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 15. That would be event specific demo insurance written with verification of the experience and credentials of the jumpers involved. I have never heard of a company willing to write a policy for continual skydiving activities by unnamed persons of varying experience levels including unlicensed novices. Didn't we have this discussion a while back? There's a huge difference between liability insurance for a demo jump (where the insurance company will pay for damages done by jumpers hitting stuff) and liability insurance for a DZ (where the insurance company will pay for damages to a student who gets hurt or killed during a jump). The first is readily available, as long as the participating jumpers meet certain qualifications (PRO rating, FAA waiver, ect). The second is not. There are types of liability available to DZs. Covering damages in case the airplane crashes and does damage, "trip and fall" for spectators on the DZ, that sort of basic stuff. But there is no company anywhere that will offer to cover the risk to students jumping. Risk pool is too small, potential payout is too large, all sorts of "actuarial" reasons. IIRC, there was someone who did kayak/whitewater rafting training who swore up and down that his agent could get liability coverage for a DZ. When asked for a quote, he disappeared. 17. Try THIS. It explains what the "s" and the "C" mean, along with other stuff. I got into R/C helis a few years back for a bit. LiPo were just becoming reasonably common, and the advances since then are probably significant. Beware of taking them too far down (discharge). It will kill them. Beware of charging them. They can start on fire (Think Samsung). If billvon tells you anything about this that contradicts what I say, listen to him. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 18. While it is funny, it's also rather frightening. It's a fairly accurate portrayal of the current White House Press Secretary. The fact that that sort of behavior is happening is not funny at all. Sort of like when Tina Fey did Palin's speeches word for word. She changed the timing and cadence, but the words were the same. Funny as hell, and scary as hell at the exact same time. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  19. What are you talking about? Abortions aren't paid for by the "taxpayers". Do you know what the Hyde Amendment is? There are a lot of insurance companies that won't cover them either. https://www.aclu.org/other/public-funding-abortion "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. And, not surprisingly, Trump throws a temper tantrum on Twitter... Again. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-judge-james-robart-trump-20170204-story.html Actual Tweet isn't quoted in the story. It went: Apparently he doesn't understand the concept of separation of powers. Or that the judge was confirmed 99-0 under GWB. But my favorite part is the "takes law enforcement away from the country." How? How exactly does lifting the immigration ban for people already established here take law enforcement away? My God, the sitting president is essentially a 3 year old who hasn't been taught the meaning of the word "No" yet. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. But, but, but . . . emails. There is a faction of the population which, for all their talk about not being "sheeple," can be lead around by the nose by emotional stories which fit their narrative. Well, to be fair, they mainly call other people "sheeple." I don't seem to recall them denying that they are sheeple too. Politics of fear. It's Trumps biggest asset (his "trump card" if you will ) The simple fact that there have been zero attacks from anyone admitted as a refugee seems lost on those idiots. 23. I've reached the point that I can't discuss it with friends. For the most part, they justified voting for Trump because of their dislike for HRC. The old "I don't like him, but I really don't like her." But it seems as time has gone by, they have converted into rather enthusiastic Trumpeters. They ignore the racism, sexism, bullying, xenophobia, complete irrationality in regards to the budget & the stupid wall, all that. Trump has shown himself to be a very effective con man. It's a bit disheartening how well he has conned people who I know who are otherwise reasonably intelligent and decent. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 25. Kinda funny how the right wing howled at Obama's Executive Overreach, yet are largely giving Trump free reign. I have yet to hear any Rs mention the sheer volume of EOs Trump is issuing.
