  1. Well, some of the claims for failure are a little bit suspicious. For example, Aetna pulled out of several markets, claiming that they weren't making money. Turns out that they were angry that the administration blocked their merger. So they pulled out of exchanges that were profitable, just to make the ACA look bad. http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-hiltzik-aetna-obamacare-20170123-story.html "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 2. Some of this will improve as you improve (the husband too). I'm a classic "featherbutt". 5'10" an 155# out of the shower. I can fall a little below 100 mph in a "normal" belly jump. I had a really hard time jumping with other people at first, so I stuck 10# of dive weights in my pants pockets. That let me learn to fly without having to fall as fast as I could (mid range). Once I learned to fly better, I found I had learned to fall faster too. I did a "fall rate race" last year. First slow, where I stayed about 6'-10' above my partner the whole time, no matter how slow he got. Then fast, where he left me in the dust. But I still managed to reach over 140 on my Pro track. And that's on my belly. Not head down or diving or anything. Just major arch and tuck everything in. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 3. A question; does not that section refer to maintenance of the unit(s)? Something along the lines of, 'Shall be maintained in accordance with mfr's instructions.' Jerry Baumchen Hi Jerry, Yes, but I would think that "mixing and matching" parts from different manufacturers would fall under that. I have to say, that if I opened up a rig for an I&R and saw some sort of "cobble job" like that with the AAD, I would not sign off on it. As always, I could certainly be wrong. And if so, I welcome correction. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  4. Really? Confusing "science" with "physics". Engineering is applying science, but physics is science. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  5. No, AADs aren't "approved" by the FAA in any way shape or form. BUT... The requirement in part 105 is "in accordance with manufacturer's instructions" I would think that using (for example) a CYPRES cutter with a Vigil control unit would be in violation of that. 6. I don't give them credit for being that intelligent. I think Occam's Razor applies here. The Rs have been screaming about the ACA since its inception. How many times did the House pass "repeals" of it that went nowhere because the Senate never took it up? One of Trump's main campaign promises was "repeal & replace." Same for a lot of congresscritters. But the lack of a replacement plan that was anything close to realistic, despite having 7 years to come up with something; the inability of the Rs to generate any sort of consensus, the complete lack of actual leadership, doomed it from the start. I found it particularly telling that the more moderate side of the Rs wouldn't vote for it because it went too far and the reactionary side wouldn't vote for it because it didn't go far enough. The Rs have spent the last 6 years (since the 2010 when they took the House) being the "Party of No." They publicly stated that their intention was to block anything Obama proposed. They didn't care about actually running the country. Now that they have the House, Senate & White House, they are finding that simply opposing everything won't work. So they come up with a hastily prepared, ill-thought-out (not thought through at all), plan that would have hurt a lot more people than it would have helped. And it falls apart. The distraction is going to be the power struggle between Trump & Ryan. Ryan has the political experience and backing to make it an interesting fight. Trump has Twitter, Bannon & his fake news network, and the idiocy of the Trumpettes. Fortunately, Speaker is an internal position, not a publicly elected one. So public opinion is not as important. 7. In layman's terms*, it's a pretty good indication that CQS and those that run it are no longer fully in contact with "reality." And are likely going to have to pay more of Mile Hi's attorney fees. In very simple terms, an appeal has to correct errors from the original trial. That's it. It's not a new trial, although an appeals court can order a new trial. No new evidence, no new arguments, nothing like that. CQS has to show where the original judge either did something she shouldn't have, or didn't do something she should have. And the would have had to have objected during trial and had those objections overruled. During the trial, the judge basically bent over backwards to accommodate CQS. She did things that, had CQS won, Mile Hi could have likely won appeals on. I was a bit disturbed by her rulings and decisions during the trial. It looked almost like she was unfairly favoring CQS. When she ruled that every single one of CQS's claims was without merit, it then looked like she chose to give CQS every break, so that the ruling against them would have a better chance of holding up under appeal. And if that was her intention, it worked. NONE of the points CQS tried to appeal were validated. The appeals court pretty much said "No." The one issue sent back was a 'technicality', and was part of the ruling about Mile Hi's attorney fees, not the main case. Every aspect of the main case that the judge found was upheld on appeal. Mile Hi's petition basically says that CQS's appeal is crap. They are trying to introduce new evidence, invalid evidence (journalists aren't legislators or judges) and are simply drawing this process out as long as possible. Perhaps because they can't stand losing, perhaps because they want to bleed Mile Hi for as much money as possible. In any case, the appeal is not likely to be heard by the Supreme Court. There's not really any reason for them to hear it. And Mile Hi is likely to be awarded more attorney fees for the "frivolous" appeal. *Note* - I'm not an attorney, and if one of the folks on here who is (DPREguy for one) says I'm wrong about part of this, then it's likely that I am. But this is my understanding of it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  8. And Trump, while promising to donate his salary to charity, has yet to. When questions were raised about this, his mouthpiece said that Trump will wait until the end of the year to decide who to donate it to. So he will take the salary. For a year. And then at the end of the year, he promises to donate it. Link: http://time.com/4699969/donald-trump-presidential-salary-donate/ "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 9. And in the meantime 30 civilians died in an airstrike against a school in Raqqa and 130 civilians died in an airstrike in Mosul but sure, the level of concern for 5 white people in London is the real global tragedy here. And on any typical day in the USA some 30 citizens are killed by their fellow gun toting citizens, but that's OK and nothing to worry about. Ya, no shit! Where are all the protests against all the inner-city shooting deaths in Chicago? Because black on black crime doesn't fit in with Jesse Jackson and his ilk's agenda. Only white on black or police brutality does. There are actually "Anti Violence" marches on a reasonably regular basis in Chicago. They just don't get national news coverage. 10. No way to upload larger pics. Part of the problem of having an older site. Although, if Sangrio updated it, he would either have to charge membership fees for everyone, or have more (and more intrusive) ads for those of us who sign up for free. One option is to post the bigger pics to Photobucket or a similar sharing site and then post a link. Or just resize them smaller. Are you anywhere near a DZ? If so, you could likely take the rig out and someone there would be able to help you figure out what you have. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. Bill you should have taken a few more gen ed courses in college. We did not evolve from monkeys. http://www.sci-news.com/othersciences/anthropology/science-homo-pan-last-common-ancestor-03220.html Meh. What Bill really needs to do is get Sangrio to develop a sarcasm font. It would help those who post garbage and expect serious responses to it. 12. Trump has lots of duties and responsibilities as President. I have yet to see him actually DO any of them. He's a fraud. As I've said - He pulled off a hell of a good con. Unfortunately, he's now President. He can't just 'take the money and run' like usual. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. I'll guess somewhere around 25%. There seems to be a small but dedicated faction that will support him no matter what. It seems to run around 25%. I don't know if they are blind, stupid, or simply that bigoted, xenophobic and misogynistic that actually like what he's doing. You have to admit that he's done a masterful con job. All of his main campaign points ("Lock her up", "Build a wall & make Mexico pay for it", "Ban Muslims", "Drain the swamp", "I won't take a vacation", ect) have fallen through. There are fairly clear indications that Russia interfered in the campaign (not the actual election). Yet his true believers, and more than a few "sorta true" believers ignore those things. 15. That is a charge? What a joke. LOL. Sounds like one of those thing left over from the Old West. No politician is going to hang his career on overturning it but it seems like the the Justice branch should eliminate it. There are still plenty of weird obscure laws on the books that are largely forgotten or just not enforced anymore. Well, they seem to be enforcing it in this case. There are laws against strip clubs or "adult" book stores "too close" to a church too. And don't forget Sunday liquor sales or car sales (Wisconsin prohibits car dealers from operating on Sunday). Kind of funny how many of the "Christian Conservative" crowd seems to be afraid of Sharia law, yet any time there's a suggestion to remove these types of laws from the books, there's opposition... 16. Surprising result! I wonder if it has anything to do with behaviour, where drivers of big cars feel safer and therefore take more risk (a bit like we see in skydiving sometimes). Partly. "Booth's Law" (basically "the safer you make something, the more dangerous people will behave.") is clearly demonstrated in cars. Big 'safe' cars, anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, all that. They give people a false sense of security and then they do stupid things. There's also simple physics. A large SUV doesn't handle anywhere near as well as a small, low to the ground, car. I drive a semi for a living. I know that I can roll over fairly easily if I take a curve too fast. So I go slow on sharp curves (duh). Far too many people hop into pickup trucks and SUVs without realizing that they aren't driving a car anymore, and that if they try a sudden, radical maneuver, they have a good chance of rolling. And since they are driving a 'big, safe' vehicle, they figured that they didn't need their seatbelt. So they often get ejected and have the thing roll over onto them. 17. Nothing controversial, no conflicting case law, not even any dissents at the appellate level. "I don't like the ruling" is not a valid reason for a State Supreme Court to hear a case. I'd really like the SC to return it with a "don't waste our time with this" sort of response, but it's most likely going to be a simple refusal with no reasons given. 19. I can't really comment on the DZs or their culture. I would not suggest you go to Lodi, but that's only based on their reputation. However, even some of the larger DZs have a "caring" culture, where the older and more experienced jumpers look out for the 'new guy' (or girl). Public transport sucks in the US, especially compared to Europe. Your best bet would be putting out the word that you want to share a ride back and forth. Depending on where you are working, it's likely someone is close enough for that to work. For three months, you might consider getting a used rig. Rental cost for that time, compared to the cost of an older used rig are probably comparable. USPA offers temp memberships. Look on their site for details. General rule of thumb in California is to not leave anything in your car. Yes, there are people that will steal everything that even looks like it might be valuable. And they can do it very fast. 20. Seriously. Those types are always predicting the "end is coming." And when the time comes and goes, and nothing happens (again), the gullible make cheap excuses, look ahead and find another "doomsday" that will fit their 'prophecy'. Source Not my beliefs, but simply an article that came up on a search of the date. I'm sure Ron will dismiss it as the rantings of a heretic. 21. 11, according to this: http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/latest-korean-ambassador-decries-malaysia-expulsion-45934560 All embassy personnel I believe. That's a new tactic I haven't seen before, I don't think. Usually you expel them. They're basically being held hostage. I wouldn't call it "new." Maybe a new angle on an old trick. The DPRK has a history of "arresting" foreign nationals on manufactured charges in order to get attention. Some poor fool thinks that it would be interesting to see North Korea, finds himself in jail for something stupid or nothing, then his government has to pretend that KJU actually matters in order to get the citizen released. It lets the DPRK government show its subjects how important it is on the world stage. (I use the word "subjects" because I find it impossible to consider any North Korean a "citizen" - citizens have rights, subjects don't) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. There are a couple things that I could tell you. The suggestion to pull the bag around the canopy rather than putting the canopy into the bag is one. Moving as quickly as possible from laying on the cocooned canopy to bagging it is another (the slower you go, the more the canopy will puff up). Learning to control the S-folded canopy is key. Hands, knees, elbows, your face, whatever works. That's one of those things where you have to find what works best for you. Watching good packers is helpful, but only to a point. Most of it is time & practice. Keep at it, you will get it. On the bright side - once you learn to pack properly, getting sleeping bags, tents, car covers, ect. into their storage bags will become very easy. 23. Lance lied his ass off. I know here's this weird idea floating around that he only ever said "I never tested positive" but it's not true. He categorically stated many times that he never took performance enhancing drugs. Right. Armstrong lied repeatedly and attacked a lot of people who told the truth about him. BUT... His testimony before congress, under oath, didn't include any actual "lies." Kinda like Clinton. He went on TV before the whole country and lied his ass off. But he was penalized for lying under oath, during the Jones harassment suit. Keep in mind that, at least here in the US, the only time lying is an actual crime is when testifying under oath (perjury) or talking to the cops (obstruction of justice). 24. The sales procedures have changed over the years. It's pretty rare for them to go door to door like in the old days. Variety of reasons, from both sides of the door. More common around here is to see the whole troop set up a table somewhere (outside a grocery store is common). I seem to recall a girl in Portland setting up a table outside a pot place and setting record sales numbers. If you need some, look up the local council office. Give them a call and I'm sure they can satisfy your needs. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  25. Can we fire the guy who is attempting to limit the freedom of the press over at The White House? While I really hate to defend Trump... I what way is he "limiting freedom of the press"? Is he arresting reporters (or having them beat up or murdered)? Is he sending his goon squad out to trash newspaper offices or TV studios? He's refusing to talk to certain news organizations. He's taken the position that if someone says something bad about him that he will 'take his ball and go home'. While it demonstrates that he and his administration have the maturity of a 5 year old (and that's being a bit generous), it's not illegal or unconstitutional. It's also backfiring big time. It's making it pretty clear that: A - He has something to hide. B - The stuff that is being reported is likely true. Edit to add: C- He wants to be a dictator, not President.
