  1. You seem hung up on the concept that there is a "right" way to pack. And that there's only one. The reality is that packing techniques are varied, personal and very subjective. It's far more of a "what works for you" than a "right vs wrong". I was told early on that "lines in, fabric out, set up so that it comes out smooth and straight" is 80% of packing. Some of the rest is opening quality. The rest is psychological. I've seen some amazingly sloppy packjobs open fine (more than a couple were my own). I've seen perfectly neat and tidy packjobs malfunction. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  2. You are being reasonable, thoughtful and rational. You are answering his "simple question" with an intelligent, detailed and (IMO) accurate answer. That is more than a "one-liner". You do realize that isn't allowed here, right? Seriously, that is probably the best answer I've seen in a while. Take away the guns (not possible, but hypothetically) and the attitude will remain. The carnage may decrease some, but it will become a 'victory to the strongest' sort of deal. Guns don't create violence, but they allow the weak to have force. 3. Gun related suicides probably means that some liberal saw a gun and jumped off a bridge. Well, Japan, for example, has historically had a fairly high suicide rate. Much lower gun suicide rate because nobody but cops, military and Yakuza has guns. The US has a higher gun suicide rate in part because guns are readily available and in part because guns are a fairly effective and quick means of doing it. "Quick" is a part of it because suicide is often an impulsive act. Someone who takes a bunch of pills has a decent amount of time to change their mind and call for help. Once the trigger is pulled, it's usually over. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  4. I'm not him, but it's not really a "simple question", or at least not a question with a simple answer. In the 19th century, slavery became unacceptable and was abolished throughout most of the 'civilized' world. Why was the US the only country that had to fight a war to end slavery? Comparing other countries and their gun laws and death rates without looking at the larger cultural aspects is missing the point to at least some degree. 5. There's a bit of a difference between "reads gun magazines and got into a fight at a bar" and posting "I am going to be a professional school shooter" online. 7. Pfft. That's a silly question. He's a white man. He can do anything and they will forgive him. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  8. Fixed it for ya Ahhh. I hadn't thought of that option. No doubt that Trump did. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  9. The statement about the lawyer I am seeing is "Cohen claimed he used his “personal funds” to “facilitate” the payment and was not reimbursed by the Trump campaign or the Trump Organization." It also says "Cohen refused to say if he was reimbursed by Trump personally" He also declined I doubt Trump paid him personally. If he didn't pay it out of business funds of one sort or another, he wouldn't be able to deduct it as a business expense. That's why he won't release his tax returns. 10. So what specifically is the long term cheating and screwing effect the Clintons have had on you? In what specific ways did the Clintons "cheat this country" and "screw us over" (presuming "us" is the American people)? Trump is destroying the EPA. Trump is devastating the State Department. Trump has basically nobody in the Dept of Justice to protect the public (Civil Division, Civil Rights, Environment among others) Those actions are far more devastating to the country than anything I can recall the Clintons doing (but I am open to the fact that I may be forgetting something). And, don't forget that Trump is charging the public (the taxpayer, you and me) for everything for everybody (him, cabinet, staff, security, everyone) when he goes to his own resorts. Rooms, food, golf carts, the whole shebang goes on the US government tab. Right into Trump's pocket. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. The only answer to this is: "It depends." The whole idea behind this is that you are slwoing your descent, and slowing your forward speed. The reason it extends your glide is because you are slowing your forward speed less than you are slowing your descent rate. That gives you a shallower angle and extends your glide. Generally, rears take less forward speed away, but don't slow the descent quite as much. Brakes will slow the descent more, but at a cost of more forward speed. (again, generally). If you have a tailwind, you don't mind losing more forward speed because the tailwind pushes you across the ground faster. With a headwind, losing forward speed may give you zero groundspeed (depending on the wind and on the speed of the canopy), which gives you a vertical descent. This is all stuff that varies from canopy to canopy, and jumper to jumper. The only way to find out for sure is to experiment. One thing I was taught early on is that if I'm not sure that I can make it back, don't try. Pick an out early enough that I have plenty of choices and can pick a good one. Don't wait until my choices are the trees, the power lines, the freeway or a tiny, tiny back yard. I landed out a couple years ago, the DZO came out to pick me up. On the way back he said that they were standing by the hangar, watching me come in. They could see that I was very marginal to make it back, and 'short' would have meant on a busy freeway. "Out" was a farm field. They were standing there saying "Don't try to make it back", knowing I couldn't hear, but that's something we all do. 12. Party in charge is in charge of the committees. They get to decide what gets investigated and what doesn't. What gets a hearing and what gets ignored. Rs were in charge of congress since 2010 and did all the investigations of HRC and e-mails and Benghazi. And found nothing. Rs are in charge of congress and have decided not to investigate or hold hearings on Trump's behavior or that of his minions. Go figure. If (and it is a pretty big 'if') the Ds take control of the House in the mid-terms, then I think we might see a few interesting investigations. 13. While I agree that the parade itself is a pretty stupid topic, the fact that the CinC seems to need one to "swing his dick" around isn't. The petty, immature, narcissistic, grandiose behavior of the Mango Mussolini is seriously frightening. Throw in the double standards that he and his supporters adhere to and it's even more so. 14. Probably ignored as much as having classified documents on a private email server. So how many congressional hearings have been held about Trump minions and their behavior with classified information? None yet...but it's still early. Early? There have been credible reports of Trump's kids using private servers for government business for over a year. How many investigations? 16. They are not that advanced. And there is a portion of them merely trolling, but its hard to keep up that farce. My guess is 75% of people joining the 'flat earth' groups only do so for the LULz and to laugh at idiocracy(I did), and that 95-99.9% of the media-creating promoters of it believe they are preaching scripture. It's a thrill in 'debate', an illusion of 'knowing' something others don't, fabricating their victimization and projecting it on others while feeling vengeful toward a fabricated boogieman is what gets these people high. They are truly fascinating and an excellent case study in crowd psychology. This is true for everything from the vaxxers, hoaxers, truthers to flat earthers and any conspiracy theory touting idiot privileged enough to have one. It's REALLY easy to win a debate with idiots. Walk away. mmmmmmmMMMMMM thats quite compelling. After all to believe in a flat earth would be to ignore everything about how gravity works, how a molten earth core allows earthquakes to occur, etc. etc. One of the "better" ones is how they claim it's all a "NASA conspiracy", yet it was the ancient Greeks who first theorized a spherical earth. Aristotle was the first to show evidence, and Eratosthenes came up with an estimate that was pretty close (depending on the value of the measure he used). Fascinating that NASA conspired with the ancient Greeks to fool all of us into thinking that the earth is round. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 17. Facts schmacts. Trump and his idiot supporters don't care about those. This popped up on FB: https://www.facebook.com/SickOfTheSlant/photos/a.163029403722750.42222.134525006573190/2304330406259295/?type=3&theater How many of the Trumpettes will blindly believe this garbage? 18. Meh. Every form of measurment is to some degree arbitrary. Big rocks, King's arm (or other body appendage), water, the earth's diameter, whatever. It's as much what you are used to and were taught as a kid as what "makes sense". I agree that the metric system is simpler and the way it overlaps is cool (1g = 1cc H2O = 1 ml). But I still think in SAE. Even in Canada, I have to convert kms to miles in my head. And yeah, I think it's funny that all of my metric sockets go onto a 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2" drive (I don't have any 3/4" stuff). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. Anyone remember the Dodge Omni, (aka Plymouth Horizon) cars? They were US made, but initially came with a 1.7L engine bought from VW (same engine as VW Rabbit). The car had SAE fasteners, but the engine had metric fasteners. So you needed two sets of tools for the same car. That's not all that unusual. Many US cars are a mix of metric and SAE fasteners. I have sockets, combo wrenches and Allen wrenches in both. I currently have German cars and a Japanese motorcycle. So the only thing the SAE stuff gets used on is my bicycle, snow blower and rototiller. Or helping out someone. So for now, anything new is metric. 20. Do you consider yourself a moderate? Sometimes. Let me just say that in politics, which is what is being discussed here, you are one of the least moderate people I've encountered online. But that may bear only a passing resemblance to the person you portray in real life. Pfft. EVERYONE considers themselves a 'moderate'. Everyone. Just like everyone considers themselves to be an "above average" driver. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. What I find really bizarre are the people who try to debate them. I have a friend who's very intelligent but she's been in an online argument with a Moon landing hoax moron for months now.It makes absolutely no sense to me and in some ways is dumber than the one who claims it was a hoax. Many of the "flat earthers" are excellent debaters and very persuasive. That doesn't change the fact that they are complete idiots if they actually believe this garbage. A friend of mine is somewhat gullable, and has been taken by con artists in the past. He has recently become closer friends with a guy who claims that microwaves make water toxic (believed that and stopped using his microwave for a while), is an 'energy healer' (believed in that to the point that he argued that 'if you don't believe in it it won't work), but my friend was amazed that this idiot is a 'flat earther.' He didn't realize that there were people who actually believed this. I don't know if the guy acutally believes the crap about the microwaves (proven to be false), energy healing (no proof it works despite huge rewards offered) or flat earth (please) or if the guy is just seeing how far he can go and what potential 'marks' will fall for. 22. And "Paying Taxes". Don't forget that part. Supposedly, "Dreamers" contribute something like $2,000,000,000 (that's two billion) in federal, state and local taxes every year. But Trump and the Rs have made it pretty clear that they don't need no stinkin' tax revenue. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 23. So Kelly is getting dragged down into the morass. So many folks felt that having him in the WH would elevate it's behavior. Or at least moderate the Mango Mussolini a little bit. Instead, the opposite is happening. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  25. What "legal immigration process" are you talking about? There isn't one. That door was slammed shut a number of years ago. The very basic idea of the "unwashed immigrant", coming to the US and working hard for a better life has been shut down. At least legally. The illegals (Mexican, Central American, Chinese, ect) are still doing that and trying to reach the "American Dream" (some successfully). Just not legally.
