  1. Cosby strung it out for several years. But he was only facing one trial. Weinstein is facing the current charges, but is also under investigation in several other jurisdictions. Typically, they take turns on this sort of thing. Sometimes, if the sentence handed down in an earlier trial is severe enough, they will charge the suspect (for Statute of Limitations reasons) but not try him. And Weinstein is on some sort of 'monitoring' while out on bail. Most likely the typical GPS based ankle bracelet. While it wouldn't be impossible for him to cut and run, it would not be easy. Or cheap. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  2. It should disturb anyone who thinks. The State Department has been eviscerated. Trump wanted to 'drain the swamp.' Well, a large part of what he 'drained' is the experienced and qualified diplomats from State. Top DPRK expert, gone. Top nuke expert, gone. So you get Bolton shooting his mouth off, Pence echoing it, both of which are scary as all hell to KJU & the DPRK. I thought it was unlikely KJU would be willing to totally give up the nukes he already has. After the comments comparing Libya to the DPRK, I think the chances have approached the proverbial 'whelk in a supernova'. Add on the abandonment of the deal with Iran (and six other countries), a deal that was negotiated over a period of years, and a deal that the Iranians seem to have kept their side of, and we see what happens when a 'successful businessman' tries international relations. The US has pretty much abdicated it's position as 'world's policeman' and become a joke. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 3. I'm confused. You normally post reasonably and rationally. The linked article described an incident in Oklahoma City (USA), not in China. And it was a stereotypical 'good guy with a gun' (actually two of them) who intervened in a robbery and shot the perpetrator. They happen more often than most people realize. They didn't send so many rounds flying around that they accidentally shot a kid down the street (or any other bystander). Just the perp. 4. The only ones I see Bill treating like "uneducated hilljacks" are the ones who post like... Uneducated Hilljacks. There are some. Broad assumptions, wild exaggerations, blatant prejudices (some racial, some other), seriously misinformed about some really basic stuff. Some seem to be much smarter, yet post like idiots. Others, well, seem to actually believe the bullshit they post. And some stuff is 'forced' because people are often really stupid. One example is pollution control on cars. Mandated, required, forced upon the consumer. Some places require compliance testing. Yet some idiots still insist on defeating it. They ignore how bad the air was back in the early 70s, and feel that their car doesn't pollute enough to matter. Which it really doesn't. But when millions, even tens of millions of cars are polluting, you get... LA in the early 70s. So everyone is forced to comply. And the end result is actually pretty good. Light bulbs are a similar example. Incandescent bulbs are pretty bad. Even the good ones are inefficient, generate a lot of heat and don't last long. A decent LED will generate very little heat (A/C load is less), last a lot longer and consume a tiny fraction of the power. Yet dumbass consumers see a LED for $10 or so and an incandescent for $0.99 and make their choice based on that. Once more, when you get tens of millions, or in the case of light bulbs, hundreds of millions of them on a much more efficient platform, the power load goes down considerably. Less power generated means less CO2 emitted. Better all the way around. Airbags save lives. So do seatbelts. That's why there are laws requiring them. I don't like them much (I believe it should be a choice), but I understand the fact that far, far too many people believe that they are 'special' and that they won't get into an accident. FWIW, with the holiday weekend coming up, the WI State Patrol was on a media campaign about seat belts. The state has nearly 90% seat belt usage, yet nearly half of the fatalities come from the 10% who don't wear one. And can you tell me what 'other countries' have outlawed internal combustion engined cars? There are several that have proposed bans, set to take place in the future. But those are only for new car sales. And none are set to take place for at least 7 years. Most are further out. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 5. How is that even a discussion? Do these pants make my ass look fat? There are only two acceptable responses: 1. "No." (This is the correct answer in the case that your ass does not appear fat.) 2. "No." (This is the correct answer in the case that the pants are not to blame for your ass appearing fat.) Any response other than one of these two is incorrect. For best results, do not elaborate (although appending a "my dear" probably won't hurt). Nope. Answer with "Take the pants off." Follow up with"I don't think you are fat. In order to see if those pants make your butt look fat, then I have to compare the view with and without pants. Then and only then can I tell you if those pants make your butt look fat." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 6. I have yet to find any written rules on "Bonfire appropriate" vs "Speaker's Corner material". One 'rule of thumb' that seems to be pretty valid is to ask yourself: "If this subject was brought up in a bar, how likely would a fight be? Anything that would end up in a "raised voice argument" or worse goes in SC. I have found that if I'm not sure, I can PM Billvon. He usually responds fairly quickly. 7. Yeah, but is there a vaccine for those? And does that vaccine cause autism? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  8. At what point did I suggest "Nothing on the Border"? Or do you have to make shit up because you can't refute my arguments? And for that matter, your 1st paragraph actually agrees with my point. There are places where a barrier (wall or fence) is a good thing. And already in place. There are others where it isn't a good idea. Both are for a wide variety of reasons. Trump's idiotic "wall" idea ignored that. He just wanted to "build a wall" from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific. And "make Mexico pay for it." And his moron supporters ate it up. One of the most telling things I saw during the campaign was Trump announcing the first line ('Build a wall") and then "winding up" to put his hand to his ear to encourage the crowd to reply "and make Mexico pay for it." Pure idiocy, pure theater, done in a way that would make a pro wrestler proud. Trump wanted the adulation from the crowd. Pure and simple. Workable ideas? Realistic proposals? Pfft. He just wanted the cheers and applause. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  9. Well, the morons who think that a wall would have much effect on drugs or immigration are the same morons who thought Trump was going to make Mexico pay for it. 10. Or anything else. Drugs, illegal immigration, gangs, "The Wall" is a huge (hyuuuge) distraction. It sounds good (at least to the uneducated), it's a 'quick fix' (that won't actually fix anything), it gives the "Trumpettes" a retort of "you want MS-13 to come in?" despite the fact that it does almost nothing to actually keep them out. Typical Trump policy. Bad idea based on a false premise. Extremely expensive and accomplishes virtually nothing. The only thing missing is one of Trump's companies, or a large campaign contributor being the primary contractor and making an obscene amount of money on the project. 11. Both STDs have frequently been in the news over the past several years. He absolutely should be expected to have known the difference less than two years ago. Any informed US citizen would have known the difference. I guess it depends on where you live. I worked as a clinician in the west central FL area and I do not recall ever seeing an article in the news about HPV. HIV was a daily concern but no one discussed HPV. Seriously? HPV, it's connection to Cervical Cancer, the vaccine and all the arguments that accompany that have been in and out of the news for over a decade. HPV is the formal name for genital warts. You've heard of those, right? And I have to say that the idea of someone who fucks porn stars not knowing about STDs is hilarious. The idea that the President-elect doesn't know the difference between HPV and HIV is frightening. I thought he was a 'genius'. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. Well, this article was only about ads that were purchased by the 'troll farms.' That was only a small part of the campaign. This doesn't even touch on the posts by the trolls. We even saw some of those here. It's hard to look at a small part of the issue and call the whole thing ineffective. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 14. Well, the attacks on the voting machine computer network was likely for that reason, to sow distrust about the validity of the election results. Kinda funny that it dovetailed very nicely with Trump's claims that the election was going to be 'rigged'. However, it's pretty apparent how much Putin despised HRC. She really pissed him off while she was SecState. The leaked e-mails through WikiLeaks (about HRC and the ones about the candidates in France & the Netherlands), the meetings with Trump's minions, the connections through Manafort & Flynn, all of that and a lot more. They show pretty clearly that Putin wanted Trump elected. And why wouldn't he? Trump has refused to implement sanctions against Russia. He's also dumped the Iran nuke deal, which has had a notable effect on oil prices (to Russia's benefit). Despite the denial of the Trumpettes, the investigation is moving forward. And I'll bet that it finds more, and that a large number of Trump's inner circle ends up facing charges over it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  15. Well, Manafort's former son-in-law pled guilty a while back. It just came out today. One more down, the circle is tightening. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia-manafort-exclusive/exclusive-manaforts-former-son-in-law-cuts-plea-deal-to-cooperate-with-government-sources-idUSKCN1II2YM "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 16. Well, I would say that chances for Trump to make any sort of deal with the DPRK just went through the floor. Bolton's comments are part of what prompted KJU to threaten to walk away from the talks. Trump echoing and reinforcing that pretty much guarantees that KJU will not agree to give up his nukes. Trump conducts international diplomacy about as well as he... Runs a casino. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  17. Well, the same thing Obama, Bush and Clinton did. Keep the offer to talk open, but make it clear that it would not be a sit down with the President. Send State Dept diplomats & negotiators to do the talking. Make it clear to KJU that he needs to take concrete, verifiable steps before any concessions would be made. What I would not do is give KJU any prestige or 'importance' by agreeing to a sit down with the President. Or make a lot of noise that this would be leading up to anything new or 'groundbreaking' before it even happened. Also, calling KJU names more appropriate to a grade school playground was pretty stupid. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  18. But can you imagine what the same news people and pundits would be saying if Trump had turned down Kim's offer to talk? Not sure what you mean by "same news people and pundits." When I said "People in charge", I meant SecState Pompeo, Trump and all of their spokes-critters. Along with their ROK counterparts. Anyone who has dealt with KJU & the DPRK (or simply followed the behaviors) should not be surprised at this. This entire summit was likely doomed before it started. KJU likely wasn't interested in sitting down and talking, or offering any real concessions. The "closing" of the test facility is looking more and more like a publicity stunt, officially 'closing' a site that is damaged beyond repair to begin with. KJU wanted to suck Trump into thinking there was going to be a summit, to stroke his ego and make him brag. Look at how much the Trumpettes made out of it. And Trump fell right into it. Giving KJU the prestige and prominence of sitting down across from a sitting US President as an equal. Which KJU then took up a step by saying "No, I don't want to." So now he can say to his people something like: "Look, he wanted to sit down with me. But his military was using this as a cover for preparations to attack us. So I said "No" and then put our military on high alert, thwarting their plans." It's a load of crap. But it will go over rather well in the DPRK, where they are fed what KJU wants them to hear and very, very little else. The US has had a standing offer to talk to the DPRK for a long time. But through proper channels and without giving the DPRK the ability to present themselves as equals. Trump never should have offered to sit down with KJU one on one. But he fell prey to his own ego and ignorance. The fact that the 'brain drain' in the State Department is ongoing and very severe didn't help. Although I highly doubt Trump would have listened to them in the first place (one of the main reasons for the ongoing departures). 19. I find it more than a little bit disturbing that so many Trumpettes seem to defend or dismiss his criminal actions. And there are a lot of criminal actions that they defend. 20. Well, I hope it passes and net neutrality is restored, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. After all, AT&T paid Cohen over half a million to make net neutrality go away (originally claimed it was only $200k). I'm sure they can make that up (and a lot more) by charging for access, speed and priority. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. Bingo. I was thinking about Lucy holding the football too. The only thing I find surprising about this is that anyone "in charge" is at all surprised by it. They've said things like: But he knew these exercises were planned when he agreed to the meeting and said that it was not an issue. Of course, the number of people left at the State Department who have actual knowledge and experience in these things is pretty small. And getting smaller every day. 22. I disagree, we are more pleased with President Trump thus far than with the previous administration. Much of what needs to be done rests with Congress. With President Trump we feel we have a chance. Seriously? What "we" are you talking about? The ones in your 'hideout', the ones who think exactly like you? That wouldn't surprise me. How about the "Gold Star Families"? Including the ones he's denigrated? How about the ones who need and use the VA? The ones he basically spit on with his nomination of his White House physician for Secretary of Veteran's Affairs. How about the veterans who are Muslim? Or Mexican? Or don't those veterans count in your opinion? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  23. To be at least somewhat fair: 1 - This isn't 'republicans', its "Trump and his minions'. 2 - They are attacking a political opponent, who happens to be a veteran. Not that Trump has shown a lot of respect for vets. Or done anything to help them. And the Rs in general have done a pretty poor job of taking care of the vets (really good at sending them off to war, not so good at taking care of them when they return). But the Ds haven't done a whole lot better. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  24. And no other country has it's Israeli embassy in Jerusalem. Only Tel Aviv. Think there's maybe a reason for that? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  25. And yet Larry Nassar was left in his position as physician to the gymnastics team despite numerous reports of his behavior. Go figure. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
