A few years back, there was a very pleasant young lady who worked weekend manifest at the DZ. She was very good behind the desk. She wouldn't take any crap from anyone, but was patient and pleasant no matter how busy it got. Her 'regular job' was a school teacher. She taught 3rd & 4th graders (9 & 10 year olds) with special needs. I asked one time if dealing with skydivers helped her deal with young kids with special needs or if dealing with young kids with special needs helped her deal with skydivers. She thought about if for a second or two and said something to the effect of 'It's about the same'.

Bad weather, rough terrain, and the fact that years of sanctions have made maintaining aircraft an iffy proposition. All of those make the idea that it was 'just a crash' a very real possibility. I'll guess that Iran will blame Israel (and/or the US), but without an independent investigation (which is likely not going to happen), I probably won't believe what the Iranians say.

Of course, Trumpty Dumpty and his minions are all claiming that the debate is 'rigged'. How? They won't (can't) say. Edit to add link: https://thehill.com/elections/4667479-lara-trump-joe-biden-donald-trump-debates-rigged/

Why are Republicans the party of Law and Order
wolfriverjoe replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
Mostly the racist enabling culture warriors who have finally found a way to manipulate the idiots into voting against their own interests in order to pretend they are superior to someone else. The movie "The American President" had a pretty good line: There have been tons of comparisons between Trump and Hitler. And a lot of Trump's minions with the Nazi party hierarchy. The biggest one (by far) is in the above quote. Telling you who to be afraid of, who to hate and pretending they'll do something about it. Hitler blamed the Jews, and managed to murder millions of them. Trump is basically throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. BLM, illegals, LGBTQ, everything. Don't forget that Hitler murdered a LOT more than 'just Jews.' And, as shown here, some folks are stepping up and falling into it. -
Powerful speech by Biden on the assault on Democracy

Well, DePape got 30 years. He wasn't a 'male prostitute'. There wasn't any sort of shenanigans with the video. Nothing other than a lunatic who bought into all the conspiracy fantasies about the 'evil demoncrats'. Funny how all that stuff 'just went away' when the actual facts came out. Just like ALL the Alt-Right bullshit that gets thrown around in these situations. It can. Turbines operate with two 'counting limits'. One is hours of operation. The other is 'cycles' (startups). Turbines love to run. Keep it running, no major power changes, no major temp changes and it will run for a very long time. Starting up puts a lot of wear and tear on them. That's one reason DZOs try very hard to keep a turbine powered plane turning. And why they 'hot fuel'. Edit to add: One other issue is allowing the engine to cool off before a restart. Hot starts are brutal on the engines.

Gained weight while waiting for new rig to arrive
wolfriverjoe replied to GFry's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've been following this from the beginning. I've got a slightly different opinion, and one data point to back it up. I've got an Infinity, I had it built back in 2011. In the intervening years, I've added a few pounds and maybe an inch to my waist. While the increase took place over a long time, and isn't that big, I never noticed any fitment issues with the rig. I've gone up an inch in waist size for my pants, but the rig still fits fine. As noted, this is only one data point. Mine. And it's an Infinity, not a Vector. But it has not even remotely presented as an issue for me. -
Not to mention the fact that airshow wingwalkers usually are performing 'down on the deck'. Not really a whole lot of time to deploy before impact. (yes, I know there are some super low deployments where the forward speed of the aircraft & jumper open the canopy more or less horizontally)

Most don't. My ex-wife's mom had 9 siblings (total of 10 kids by her grandmother). Some of the kids had no offspring (one died fairly young), the rest had 2 or 3.

They made engine blocks from cast Alusil (aluminum impregnated with silcon) back in the 70s. One infamous example is the Vega block. The issues had nothing to do with the technology itself, it was an issue with the cooling. Alusil is very vulnerable to overheating. The Vega had issues with localized overheating (back of the head) that resulted in warped heads and blown head gaskets. The exact same tech/alloy was used in both the Porsche 924/944 and 928. Both had excellent cooling systems and there are examples of both exceeding 500k miles without major engine issues. Have you/they looked at the Chevy Bolt? It's being discontinued, but the used market is pretty robust. It's not perfect. There's a battery recall out there on them, some of the batteries had issues and needed to be replaced. There's also a 'charge limit' software patch that limits charging to 80% for 10,000 kilometers while the computer monitors the health of the battery while it charges. If no issues show, the limit disappears. If issues show up, Chevy replaces the battery under the recall. The 'fast' charging (DCFC) isn't all that fast. But it's got pretty decent range and L2 (240v) charging will suit most people's needs. Disclaimer: I'm a bit of a fanboy. I got one about 6 months ago. It suits my needs and fits my life far better than I would have expected. There's few different forums, and a decent Reddit sub (the Reddit sub has it's share of fanboys, but it also doesn't pull any punches on the shortcomings). Edit to add: I considered the Tesla, but the quality issues were one problem. The fact that Musk is a 'flaming asshole' was another. The recent kerfuffle with the charging network simply shows me that I wasn't wrong on that. Mainly though, a Tesla in my price range was going to be a lot older and have a lot more miles than the Bolts (2020, 16k miles when I bought it).

There's also a post in the wingsuit forum that they'd be manifesting today (post said 'tomorrow', written yesterday)

Well, you have to remember that a lot of US folks aren't aware (as in weren't taught) that there is actual history that took place in North America before the Europeans arrived. Kinda funny (not in an amusing way) - I got a decent amount of history about pre-European South & Central America (Aztec, Inca, Maya) and a bit about the Conquistadors. And a tiny bit on the indigenous folks in what's now the US (mostly how they were conquered and subjugated), but virtually nothing on who was where and what happened, or any of the realities of what was truly genocide.

I'm seeing some stuff on FB that makes it seem like the jet is operational again. Anybody have accurate info?

Some days yes, some days... Not so much. I say this out loud on a pretty regular basis: I hold in my hand a device that allows me to make contact with the majority of the people on the planet, and to access the entirety of man's knowledge. I use it primarily to argue with strangers and look at cute pictures of cats.

Google found this one. https://uapress.arizona.edu/book/north-american-indigenous-warfare-and-ritual-violence

The history was largely lost (or never really recorded), but there was LOTS of conflict amongst the indigenous groups in North America before Europeans arrived.

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers

Fair enough. I saw a story that said that they weren't involved in the pre-stock-offering audit. My (limited) understanding is that those are done by firms that don't have prior association. I've also not chased it much deeper, so I could also be wrong (and welcome correction if so). -
Yeah, there's a bit over 2 million soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who swore an oath to protect and defend that Constitution. That's one thing that Trumpty Dumpty never really seemed to comprehend. The oath was to the Constitution. Not to him.

Ok, my mistake. This firm didn't do the audits before the IPO. They were retained after the stock offering. And then were barred from doing business. -
Wait a minute... You expect him to present actual DATA?? Supporting evidence for his assertions? Oh please.

Why do you think Trumpty Dumpty used them? Do you think the stock offering would have happened if an ACCURATE audit had taken place? -
I don't disagree, but I'm not narcissistic enough to think I'm guaranteed survival of any new virus. I did ok during Covid, masking in public and staying the hell away from everyone as much as possible. I'd be willing to take those precautions again if necessary. But we found out in the past few years how stupid some people are. And if it gets bad enough, precautions aren't going to be enough.

Very few of the MAGA morons showed up. Few enough that Trumpty Dumpty lied and claimed the 'cops had closed off the streets.' While some streets are closed for security measures, it's not anywhere near completely closed off. https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/24/politics/fact-check-trump-hush-money-trial-supporters/index.html
