My bad...I'll take a look. Once I make a decision and get a price from my buddy, (if it's a good deal) I will post it up here. Thanks John www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D.

I have been making a wish list for X-mas coming up and one of items I have on the list is a hook knife. When researching the knifes I realized I have no idea what is best or "good enough". I found some really inexpensive ones but really don't know what works, what is easiest to access, etc... since I haven't used one or even seen one in person. A friend of mine says he can get good prices on Kershaw, Benchmade, Spyderco, SOG, CRKT, Cold Steel and a couple others. Any suggestions on brand or model of choice? I am looking for something fairly inexpensive... My buddy sent me this link with a few options from Benchmade: http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_list.aspx?style=Hook TIA! www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D.

Found this in the 'other' thread...and I could help but to think this is the perfect example. I agree! But since it's already unpacked, it wouldn't be much of a hassle to give it a good look over. Honestly, I really don't think I'd be upset unless there was damage found or handles pulled. You should prolly keep it in your room next time little lady! ;-) www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D.

Which model do you use? I looked at some online and to be honest, I don't know if I could fit my rig in one of those! :-) Thanks www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D.

That's why the internet rocks! You can find exactly what you want, email a few links, and they can pick and choose what they would like to get you. AND buy it right then and there online...don't have to fight traffic or crowds! www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. -

Right on man...maybe a trackday for x-mas? I got a street 750 and a track 750...love them both equally! :-) www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. -
I haven't travelled with my rig yet, but I will be flying to AZ for the Canadian Invasion. I've talked to several people about this and have decided putting in a carry-on gear bag would be best. Here's some more info from the USPA website: http://www.uspa.org/USPAMembers/Membership/Travel/WithintheUS/tabid/311/Default.aspx Also, a friend gave me an AAD x-ray card that may help. I plan on tucking that in there somewhere. www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D.

Yep, I found the same thing Steve... I belong to a very large sportbike forum similar to this one. We have done things like calendars and t-shirts to help cover some costs to maintain the site. I think it would cool to see some stuff like that here. It 'd be a great way to support the site and help contribute! Probably a little late in the year to throw a calendar together though... www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D.

That looks awesome! I can't wait to do one... Just out of curiosity, did you have to pay for the whole balloon ride or did you get a half price deal? hehe Seriously though, about how much do balloon pilots charge? www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D.

Best way to improve canopy skills?
Boeris replied to Deisel's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok, my bad. Maybe I spoke out of place in my first post regarding GL. I should have either been more clear or just not posted here. I guess people interprate learning GL differently. To me, it's learning how to kite your canopy until you feel comfortable trying to fly down an incline with no obsticles. There's a difference in learning the right way and learning the wrong way and a huge difference in the hill I was learning on and the stuff you see in the videos. Here's a couple pics of what I think a good learning hills is. Please correct me if I am wrong, but with mild wind, somone experienced to help, and 100+ jumps under your belt, I really don't see a problem. www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. -

I knew it wouldn't take long to get flamed... Though I think you are waaaay off on your analogy, I definitely don't think someone who has no clue how to fly a skydive canopy should try this. Having a 100+ jumps, I really don't see a problem in attempting this IF YOU DO IT RIGHT. I mean, I went with an experienced ground launcher and spent a lot of time outside of the harness kiting the canopy before I took off running down the hill... Please do not flame me, I think I made it pretty clear that you need to take precautions and to not get in over your head. If you don't think I was clear, how about this: If you ground launch and do not know what you are doing you WILL die! www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. -

Another way that I have found to help with canopy control is to do some ground launching. Although, it is quite dangerous, if you find the right hill with no obsticles, you have good wind and hill slope it can be very cool. I would highly suggest having someone who is experienced with you. There is a pretty steep learning curve, but once you're out there all day running up and down the hill you'll notice it's really not that hard. The key is to find the right place with the right amount of wind. www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. -

Thanks stu!!! I think I've met Dan, but can't picture him. Do you know if he's on this site and what his handle might be? I talked to a guy that paraglides up at Tiger Mtn. near Seattle. He said that's a great spot...Don't know if I want to drive that far though. As much as I think these instructions rock: http://www.bigairsportz.com/art-groundlaunch.php I really would like to get some actual training. Especially with only 55 jumps under my belt, granted they were all in about a 3 month period! I feel I'm advanced for the number of jumps, but if there's one thing I have learned from skydiving it's; You don't fook around when it comes to canopy control. I really enjoyed Doug Fourth's beginner canopy course, just wish I would have had time to take the advanced course. www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. -
Ground launching instruction Portland, Or?
Boeris replied to Boeris's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hey guys, Got pretty bored today and didn't want to be stuck indoors being a bum so a friend and I went for a drive with my rig. We found some nice big rolling grass covered hills near Bald Peak. I had never tried it before...winds were pretty light and the hill could have been steeper cause I ran my as off! haha.. Anyways, I've watched a few instructional vids and read some of the threads here but just couldn't seem to get off the ground. I think with better conditions I may have got a bit of flight. Is there anyone experienced here that lives near Portland and would possibly come out to give me some instruction? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks www.theflystyle.com "When once you have tasted flight you will always walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward: for there you have been and there you will always be." -L.D. -
