Darius, I apologize for the attack. I was under the impression that rock music, particularly heavy metal, was not generally not allowed in Islam. I'm fairly certain that is the case in some forms of Islam. Apparently not yours. Nevertheless, my tone was uncalled for. My bad. Braz

I must disagree. As I said, when the Bible is taken as a whole, I am not picking and choosing. The parts that no longer apply have been dismissed, therefore not even open to be chosen or rejected. At any rate, I know what you are driving at.
-
I was referring to the Old Testament. It was meant for that period in history, in specific application to Israel.
-
All the references you posted are Old Testament. The Bible is to be viewed as whole. SpeedRacer is correct. The Old Testament was a covenant between God and Israel, meant for a time. That period of time is often referred to as the dispensation of the law, also as the law of sin and death. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus ushered in a new covenant between God and man. A covenant not only meant for Israel, but for all people, which provides for grace and forgiveness from sin, rather than the harsh consequences of sin and death under the old law. Now, that is not to say that the 10 commandments and other teachings of the Old Testament are no longer valid. What it means is that rather than death being the immediate result of sin, we are now offered forgiveness. A few supporting references follow. Ephesians 2:13-16 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. Colossians 2:13-17 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Romans 7:1-7 (New King James Version) 1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? 2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. 4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. 6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. 7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”[a] Hebrews 8:6-13 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah — 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds[a] I will remember no more.” 13 In that He says, “A new covenant, ” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

I call BULLSHIT. So tell me when was the last time you stoned homosexuals to death? How are your slaves? I guess you don't eat pig meat either then? Or do you? Which bit did you choose to follow? There is nothing wrong with listening to music in the Koran. You really shouldn't believe everything Fox news tells you old boy. You provide me with actual Bible references that support what you just said, taking both the Old and New Testament into account as whole, and maybe then I will argue with you.

While absolutely disgusting, and indefensible, it is important to remember that this type of thing goes on in many professions. The report does keep that perspective by saying: "While the problem of police sexual abuse of teenage girls is serious, there is not sufficient evidence to indicate that it is more so than with other professions. In recent years there have been numerous reports of abuse of both adult and underage women by teachers, including athletic coaches, clergy, medical doctors, and others." Again, this type of thing is deplorable regardless of what credentials the perp happens to have.

Please go back and read all of Amazon's posts on this thread. Yes she DID joke about shooting cops, and even said she would not want to get the "doughnut shit all over her expensive carpets." No knee jerk here, the posts are very clear.
-
You write stuff like that, and call ME argumentative? There is nothing more I have to say to you. You just don't get it.
-
So it's just the county sheriffs you don't like. Well why didn;t you say so. The fact is that you made a joke about shooting cops. THAT IS NOT FUNNY, AND NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT...EVER. You can't have it both ways. You can't joke about shooting cops in one post, then play it off like it was my misunderstanding. When I asked you to clarify, you made it very clear with your comment about getting the doughnut shit on your carpets. You would not make a joke about victims of 9\11 would you? Well what makes this ok?
-
Gee, after posts like that, how could I possibly have thought you meant to shoot the bad guy, not the cop? To you we are one and the same. Do you know how many cops have died in the line of duty this year? 89. Two of which were shot and killed in the last week. I hope you find those facts amusing Amazon. Enough.

I have personally heard a cop tell a DZO: "If you don't hand over the video tape I will shut this place down." You tell me...who's the asshole? Who has integrity? Who's trampling on "rights"? Who's abusing their power? Who's contributing to that negative perception you complain about? Why could he have not said, "If you don't hand over the video I will have to obtain a warrant to get it." "ALL THAT MATTERS IS THAT THE TRUTH IS TOLD" You've never been to court have you? In spite of all the chest-thumping and rhetoric to the contrary, truth is not an issue in our court system. As far as the threat to shut down the DZ, what do you think the cops are going to do? Are they supposed to just say..ok, we'll get a warrant and come back later. That is not how it works. The police have the right and obligation to make sure evidence is not destroyed. So the cop would probably have shut things down for about an hour, just long enough to obtain an emergency warrant, and get the tape. That is probably what he meant, and that would indicate he is doing his job correctly. It is not an abuse of power, he is not trampling your rights, he is doing his job. So in the end, it would be the lack of cooperation that caused the DZ to be shut down temporarily, not the cops fault. As far as court is concerned, I am in court regularly, and yes it does leave something to be desired..but that had more to do with liberal judges than truth and lies.

[reply} What have YOU done to weed out those that cause all that negative perception of your profession? The fact is, those bad apples are there and continue to be there even after their rottenness is exposed. The Thin Blue Line and all that. Your comment, "...remember, as the saying goes...you mess with the bull...you'll get the horns!", tells me that you are one of them. DSE's arguement is basically, "Why be an asshole by insisting on your "rights" when you could be a nice guy and just hand over the tape". The flaw in that thinking is that if you insist on your rights, then you are an asshole, hand it over and you're a nice guy. Wrong. I just do the job the best I can. I am not in a position to hire and fire. Besides getting rid of bad cops is very hard to do because of the way the system works. That is a problem. I assure you all that I am NOT one of those cops. The "Bull" comment was a bit much, I admit. People do not realize the amount of crap we have to deal with on a regular basis, and that being a nice guy all the time won't get you very far on the street. I don't expect anyone who is not a cop to understand the way it is, but it just is. The result is that sometimes I get impatient when I know I am doing the right thing for the right reasons, and people are just busting my balls because they can. Get a warrant they say. Ok fine. In the end, the result is the same, so what did you accomplish by not cooperating in the first place. I have no problem with people exercising their rights in good faith. I just have a problem with people who simply hate cops, and want to make their job more difficult by all means available.

Braz...yer wastin' yer breath with these folks. They hate the US...simple as that. And these rants by Lucky and Amazon et al would be #36...You must with all your heart and soul hate America and Americans and bash them at every opportunity, while claiming you love America though you contend that American patriots are really traitors. And do remember to accuse people who don't agree with you of being the ones who hate America and Americans. This won't confuse people with IQs above eggplants, but remember some of our best friends are about as intellectually astute as ashtrays. While Elitist Leftwing Liberals hate red-blooded Americans, remember we have blood also and it's always "B Negative". http://alohahawaii.home.att.net/leftwing.html Thanks AirDvr...I was starting to wonder why nobody else was speaking up for the US. That link you posted was great! It put a smile back on my face after all this bickering

Amazon has no regard for the police, and thinks we live a in a police state. Just read the posts on the previous page. So in context with her other posts, it was not such a leap to think she was talking about the police. Why don't we let amazon clarify....well Amazon?

Nice. You openly advocate killing cops. I won't give you the satisfaction of arguing with you. However, I will remember you, and what you just said.
-
So what should we do? Ignore crime? I do not think people belong in jail for minor things, such as getting caught with a small amount of weed. However, many of the people in jail belong there. How would you suggest we control crime without locking people up? I suppose we could just kill them they way some other countries do. That would probably help with the stats you mentioned.

Lucky, I don't need to know anything more about you. You trash the constitution and hate the US. You should consider yourself "Lucky" to live here! I am aware that some of the founding fathers did terrible things. Indefensible things. I am proud of my country, even with its imperfections, both past and present. I would not want to live anywhere else. So I see no point arguing with you any further. We are as far apart on our views as any two people can be.
-
I have no problem with the first amendment. Say what you want. Do I not have a right to disagree, and tell you to pound sand? I don't know how you figure the US is a police state. Yes, some freedoms have been eroded since 9\11, and that displeases me also. However, the criminals in this country have far more rights than victims. We are far from a police state...very far.
-
Lucky, the last line in your post shows clearly that you simply hate the US, even from it's very foundation. If you want so badly to live in a socialist society, then move to a country where that is the order of things. How about Canada? You seem to think they have it all together. The US is not a socialist system, was never intended to be, and I hope and pray it never will be.
-
Lucky, The failure of communism was displayed in the fall of the USSR, and the fail of communism in Germany. I was in Germany shortly after the Berlin wall was torn down, and I saw first hand the oppression of communism. Communsim and socialism tend to go hand in hand. You can argue the philosophical differences between the two all day, but in the end, they both suck! Corporations and special interests have far to much influence in the US, that is true, and should be changed. I simply do not believe that socialism is the fix. Our system of government, as originally designed by the founding fathers, is the greatest system that has ever existed in my opinion.

Yes, born in Virginia.

Darius.. you prove my point. You pick and choose what you believe. If you claim to be muslim, which you are not willing to do, any true muslim who lives by the koran would call you a fraud! Your ARE..or you ARE NOT! There is no MIDDLE ground. Make up your mind. For the record, I AM a Christian. I do not pick and choose which parts of the Bible I choose to believe. That is the difference.
-
Lucky...you did not answer my question. What nation would you have the US follow? As far as I can tell by your posts, you and NerdGrl are nothing more than communists. Maybe you would both be happier living in the USSR. I'm sure they would be glad to have you. God knows I would not miss you!
