  2. Does anyone know if this hook knife is still produced/sold? It is a Sure-Cut 4" Double Blade Aluminium Knife. I bought two back in the early 2000’s, but haven’t seen them in several years. I’m was asking to merely reword the title to something like “Question about an Oregon dropzone” The thread text could still start with your “Why do people think Skydive Oregon is sketchy?” This thread title is going to stand out on Google searches and cause them needless problems. I see no harm was intended, but based on the replies, this seems like a good dropzone and now this “are they sketchy” title will come up in searches for many years - which is quite unfair to them.   5. 26 DZs, 11 countries, 3 continents One lift, in logbook, was technically an international flight as we took two Caravans (one with luggage, one with geared-up jumpers) from Old Bucks UK across North Sea to Texel Island, Netherlands and arrived under canopy. I remember once, meeting someone at Zephyrhills and both of us saying “I’ve met you somewhere before; we’ve jumped together – we had jumped together in Swakopmund, Namibia a couple years prior.   6. Yes, I'm bias in that I seek interesting people. I've dropped more than one CV in the rubbish bin for the entry "hobbies/interests: walking & reading". Honestly that's like listing you like to breath air. Know and match your audience. It's so easy to get background info on a companies mgmt.   7. ?? I disagree; it’s used to screen for both yes & no, but more so for the yes pile. If you note you’re into bird watching on your CV – it doesn’t get you into my yes pile, but I’m not going to drop your CV in the bin just because it doesn’t intrigue me. I suggest briefly listing at least two or three hobbies/interests –not just one “this is my passion & life” example. This yields a greater chance of “connecting” with the interviewer and allows for any single one to be augmented by the others. When you’re sending a CV or in an interview, every other CV/applicant will have the requisite background/education. How does yours stand out? If they narrow down to five people who all eminently qualified, then it comes down to qualitative measures. Why not give them information. But keep it short. Note the activity/interest; if asked about it give a short reply but not a “fanciful” description of how your hobby directly relates to the role in question. (i.e. don’t give them a long-winded story of how your kayaking skills directly relate to the job – it comes across as trying too hard). Over the past two decades, I’ve assessed CVs and hired people for roles in Europe, US and Asia in a very competitive and high-paying sector. This is feedback from how I’ve gone about the review process and the methods of colleagues involved in the same process.   8. Yes. Note you’re a skydiver and also any other major interests hobbies. When I interview people, I want to get a better idea of what they are like both via their CV beforehand and during the interview process. However there are variances depending on: - whether you’re 25 and just starting your career or you’re 45 and have a track record of success/experience behind you - you’re speaking with an American, European or Asian interviewer (there are a myriad of differences) - whether the role you’re seeking is client-facing or not (if you are to be in a role representing the firm, then yes they definitely want to have a better idea of “what makes you tick”) This mantra of “I’m good at my job and that’s the only thing that matters” is rubbish. Think about it; look around your own company – there are always people that are promoted above their actual skill level or competence and also very talented/high quality people that never seem to get the recognition they deserve.   11. About 90th jump and visiting ZHills for first time. On landing, just as I’m starting my flare, I feel a “pop” with my left toggle and think the line had broken. I immediately put my right hand back and just as I’m trying to grab rear risers go for a “rolling” landing. After landing I see that the brake line didn’t break, it had come untied from the toggle. I go to the rigger who shows me the right toggle wasn’t tied much better and I had been damn lucky over the prior 60 jumps (bought new rig at 30 jumps). She said the last person who had encountered the same ending with a broken back. Lesson: have a second rigger inspect new gear if it has been assembled by someone else. I called the shop where I purchased it (company in Northeast) and they noted the person who assembled my rig had subsequently been fired.   12. save the DZ phone number on your mobile phone in case you land out. Not just for the "come get me" call, but primarily to let them know you're OK. For other countries, find what memberships are needed and any "special requirements". Example, in the UK from age 40 or above you need a medical form signed by doctor.   13. Thanks. I assumed unless a RAW file was also saved, I was out of luck. Was hoping there was some magic/witchcraft feature in SonyVegas that could save the day. You expect this when you hand a camera to just anyone standing around you. However, In this case it was a professional photographer who had forgotten the battery packs to his Canon 5D. I said “here, take my pocket and Ixus and see what you get”. He accidentally changed the settings and all the vids are B&W with green highlights – I’ll know better next time. I have some video that was taken on a Canon Ixus (pocket point & shoot) where they accidentally took all the video with the “colour accent” feature turned on which yields a black & white video with one single colour shown as original.   15. What size are you looking for? For pilot +4/5 jumpers, a Single Squirrel (Eurocopter AS350) would be a good choice whereas a Mil MI8 can carry 26. They used MI8's at the Prostejov boogies and they got to 13K about as fast as the Beech. For cost/value, you can probably find a Bell JetRanger (Bell 206B3) or Single Squirrel nearby. A little more spend will get you an EC130 which would be quite cool for jumping and get 2 more jumpers aboard. For "wow factor" something like a MI8 is going to cost you - a lot. Dry leases for a JetRanger/Squirrel will be around USD 525/590 per hour repectively. You'll get some good feedback re availability & pricing on the "Rotorheads" section of the PPrune web forum. When you go price shopping, note that all Aerospatiale/Eurocopter models ending with a “5” means it is twin engine (i.e. AS350 vs AS355 or EC130 vs EC135) and twin-engine helicopters are “eye wateringly” expensive. Some pics of the models below. Also, keep in mind that you can find the helicopters & pilots, but then the pilots will need to be cleared for parachute operations (don't know how Malta works), but for BPA in the UK, this would entail four live training loads by the pilots, which will be an added cost.   18. 1-inch (mini) chest straps. Does it really make you more aerodynamic? My rigger has shown me several photos of bent hardware on (mini) 1” straps; I’ve never seen an example of bent (standard) 2”. Oh, and if you’ve got 50 odd jumps, stop doing that fancy folding / quick release stuff with your chest strap – it doesn’t make you look like you belong on the PD Factory Team and in the process you may miss the point of it being secure in the first place. State records are like doing something while walking backwards and chewing gum at the same time. Fastest/Farthest/Biggest/Highest matters, but not if you take to down to the level of states or small countries. Most people are not even concerned with national records. Fastest runner on the planet – that’s cool. Fastest runner in Scotland or Delaware – doesn’t really matter much. Let’s get back to the badass flying and awesomeness.   23. Good point on any of wing the wings inflating asymmetrically or covering handles. I was focused more on the leg wings driving you into a viscous spin at low altitude if arm wings were unzipped.   24. Reading through the “scariest jump” thread, there are a couple posts on aircraft emergencies at low level. As wingsuiters, we’re nearly always at the back of the group sitting near the pilot. What are the thoughts on emergency exits on things like should you quickly unzip leg wings or not? After passing 1000ft on the climb, you’re sitting there w/ legs zipped, arms unzipped and helmet sitting in your lap (assume we didn’t go TonySuit and don’t have leg cutaways on suit).   25. I have a TonFly CC1 helmet with the left side ZKull attachment unused. Would a FlySight work well side mounted.
