  2. Does anyone know if it will be held this year... if so... when? Any links to information related to this event? --- P. "It Hurts to Admit When You Make Mistakes - But When They're Big Enough, the Pain Only Lasts a Second."
  3. Jup, you're getting a lot of good hints here! If I may throw in a bit from my own experience: * I bought a new rig. That is, I chose a container off stock (they're cheaper) and had the manufacturer custom make the harness according to my body measures. You'll not regret spending a little extra to jump a comfortable rig that fits you well. Pay attention to the sizing chart as described below. * I bought a used main canopy!!! You'll most likely resize after 100+ jumps or so, if you're anything like my jump buddies. I bought a 170 as a first main canopy which was at the upper limits of what could fit in the container, according to size charts / packing volume. The container was made for 150's but I have a brand new 135 in the very same container now and it works like a charm :) A general rule of thumb is that the container allows one size above and one size below the recommended canopy size. * I bought a new reserve because it simply felt better somehow. It provided peace of mind knowing that I had a brand-spanking-new reserve for the moment when money is the last thing you care about :) * At last I think it's worth mentioning that you should really REALLY think about the helmet you choose based on how it fits you. Helmets come in all different kinds of shapes and sizes, and so do our heads... shop around... Oh, and buy a freefly friendly rig... PERIOD! Blue Skies! --- P. 8. Guys, do you have any smart ideas how to have female friends? Girls, how could I be your friend? I have jumped at smaller dropzones, where there are only very few male skydivers. Just hanging around with the guys is not an option, since sometimes there are no guys at all except me at the dz. I want to have female friends, and it always work out well - in the beginning. After a while, they always start to hit on me, try to touch me, talk me into to having sex with them, really annoying. Then I can divide these women into three categories: 1. The ones who don´t like me - fine, we´re just not friends, no problem. 2. The ones who just want to fuck me. And it´s impossible to make them stop, no matter if I´m very clear, a little alcohole in their body and it´s the same. Of course they talk a lot about their plans to their friends, which make me a male-whore in their eyes. 3. The ones who fall in love. If I don´t return their feelings they get angry, and comfort themselves by giving me bad reputations for things I haven´t done. But who would you belive: a) The new 20 year old asshole in the club who is told to be easy by category 2 and stupid by category 1. b) your female friend since 10 years.... I´m moving to a bigger dropzone, but still, almost just women, again, and would love to have advise how to handle this tricky situation right from the start. Pleeeease, any good advise? Are there any all male dropzones anywhere? --- P. "It Hurts to Admit When You Make Mistakes - But When They're Big Enough, the Pain Only Lasts a Second."

  10. Convince him that this vacuum cleaner is a very powerful one, the most powerful on the market, state of the art and a technological wonder with the motor going at 6000+ rpm etc... and the old one a "fisher price" piece of crap that "totally sucked"! Not only will he be proud of you, but he'll be showing off the new vacuum cleaner to his friends making them jealous! Trust me, we guys don't know anything about vacuum cleaners so you can pretty much make up any story that comes to mind! --- P. 11. I saw a video on headdown.net called "High Up There" by Calle Brolin which demonstrates this. It was a hop-n-pop where one guy held the other and later while under a single canopy he let go and took another freefall. Here's the tecnique http://www.avroko.com/wcs/code_scenario.htm?scenarioid=8 And frame-grabs from the video I mentioned are attached --- P. This might be of interest: http://www.noexcusesrigging.com/RiggerInsp/reserve_total.htm It says: "The rigger who packed this reserve had his Master Rigger Certificate permanently revoked." --- P. 16. Here goes :) For all 4 us, that was our "f&*st" balloon jump... we booked early and the first attempt failed since it got too windy. We were very lucky the next morning since there was 1 extra passenger with higher priority which gave us his slot so we could all jump together (Thank's dude, whoever you are!). I never imagined that flying in a balloon would be such a unique experience. Yes, the pilot was right, you feel no wind up there... and better yet, you don't even hear it. All you hear is the fuel burning every now and then, and the rather untrustworthy sound the basket makes when you move around in it. Minutes later the sun came up and all the lakes seemed glowing due to the sun's reflection in them. We had never before seen the sunrise from altitude, since we don't usually get out of bed that early, it was truly amazing!

Can anyone submit a photo of smoke brackets with a release system? Are they hard to make? --- P. "It Hurts to Admit When You Make Mistakes - But When They're Big Enough, the Pain Only Lasts a Second."

    I hate cubicles

I live in a cubicle too... somehow just putting on the headset (without music) helps me a lot... it must be sort of a "sub-conscious" thing since they don't work like earmuffs at all... but I know that if people see me wearing them... they think I can't hear them... and therefore I know for sure that nobody is talking to me when I wear them. OMG, when I previewed this post of mine I just realized that cubicle life has made me insane... --- P. 20. Wow, I'm sitting here at work... reading this... thinking about... how unbelievably fortunate... and priviliged I am... for being able to kiss my girlfriend... before each jump we share... and I'm holding back tears now... because of your words... beautiful! My original intention to write about my "pre-second" balloon jump at Lake Wales with friends, and my girlfriend, somehow faded...
  21. Where I've been jumping there's a general rule that if there's a tandem on the load, the pea gravel pit is off limits for everyone else! Nope, I haven't seen a tandem cutaway but I've heard many stories of passengers who weren't aware of any emergency during the jump and enjoyed it to the fullest. One tandem master told me that he had a malfunction and before he cut away he yelled in the passengers ear: "Hey, wow that was fun wasn't it, wanna do it again?!?!" - And the student's response was of course "Hell yea!", and the student got his second freefall for the price of one...
  22. He is icelandic and his name is Arnór :) (...and while I'm at it... since I like pics... here are a few more... I'm done now... honest!

  25. Thanks for the video and stills Tom! Even though it's BASE footage, the procedure demonstrated is something I think skydivers should consider below 1 grand. The IPA has nothing against base jumping since it's simply not our business. For fun, here are photos I took of an organized base jump for audience to celebrate the merger of two companies in Iceland in june 2001 :) 01.jpg, 02.jpg, 03.jpg, 04.jpg, 05.jpg, 06.jpg, 07.jpg, 08.jpg, 09.jpg, 10.jpg, 11.jpg, 12.jpg But we're off the original subject now... and this is not a BASE thread :) Does anyone have more malfunction- / safety related material to contribute? --- P.
