  1. I am currently shopping for a policy. The only quote I have in so far is $34/month for $100k for 10 years. $49/month for $100k for 30 years. They quoted for $250k, $500k and $1m too. The company is West Coast Life Insurance Company. I also have a life policy through my employer but it does not cover skydiving or scuba diving. These ones do. So if I get one of these and I die in a car crash, they both pay out and my husband gets all the money! I think I better check the brakes on the car regularly!!
  2. I can't answer any of the injury questions, but can talk to the insurance quote question... I am currently in the process of getting a life insurance policy and I specifically want it to cover skydiving and scuba diving. One companay told me that the "adventure sports" rider adds about $2.50 per $1000 of insurance to the base rate. I am looking about about $80 a month for the policy.

    Airkix coach?

I spent 30 minutes in the Airkix tunnel with Sparky as my coach. She is an excellent coach! She gave me some great stuff to work on in my skydiving. In the last session we even did some simple formations! My first 2-way!! WooHoo!! It was a bit pricely - I think the rate of exchange between the US$ and Sterling did not help. But it was a lot of fun! My parents were with me and watched most of my sessions. I asked my Dad a number of times if he wanted to try it, but he declined. Then about 2 days later he said he was sorry he had not tried it! Somehow I am going to have to figure out a way to get him and a tunnel together again!!

    Getting suited

  7. I couldn't get any of my friends to jumpt either .... So I got new friends!
  8. Hi Ice! Well done on the jump. I see in your profile that your home DZ is in Nenagh? Where the heck is the DZ there?!! My parents live there! I go there regularly and I never knew there was a DZ there!! I am in Wisconsin and I jump at Skydive Midwest! Are you going to jump again?
  9. So Anthony, to summarize so far, we have you in a Wind Tunnel, swimming and doing yoga!! You will be so fit and busy and flexible that you won't have time to tense up and your arch will be perfect!!
  10. Third time a charm? then maybe I can pass my Level 3 jump on the 3rd try too!!
  11. So I jumped again yesterday. I talked to my instructor and we did kind of a Level 3.5 thing! I only had one instuctor (which was new and a little freaky!). He let me go and I started to turn. I tried to correct it, but in hindsight, I was correcting the wrong direction and making the turn worse. He let me do about 2 full 360's and then he caught me and stopped me turning in time for me to pull. I am very glad I did not move on to L4 as I would have been totally overwhelmed. But I did not panic, which was a big thing for me. I have to do the jump again. And my landing was much better - didn't hurt anything this time!
  12. Check out www.aig.com They sell travel insurance in the UK and have an Adventure Sports coverage you can add on. You can also purchase a year-long policy, which covers all the trips you make in the year. By the way, where is the wind tunnel you will be visiting?
  13. yes - smarty! first time too high, second time too low!!
  14. I am a complete newbie, so what do I know, but I did practice my arch in the swimming pool for the last couple of weeks and I think it helped. Try it in the shallow end of the pool - big deep breath, hold the arch, drift to the floor of the pool and see which part of you hits the bottom first. I am guessing from the video it will be your feet.

    my first jump

  16. Thanks for the comments. The next level has only 1 instructor and he is going to move around in front of me and then let go. I'll say it ... I am nervous about that!!! I will definately be talking this over with the instructor next jump.
  17. I am an AFF student. Sunday I did my Level 3 jump and my instructors passed me. However, I think I want to do that level again. When the second instructor let go of me, I started turning slightly. He held on again, let go again, I started turning. I feel like I did not get to experience what "stable" feels like and I would like to repeat that jump before we move on to the next stage. Is this unusual, to repeat a jump you have passed? Would you advise doing it over and getting more comfortable with level 3 or just go on to level 4? You thoughts and comments are appreciated. S.
  18. I really need to do something about my landings. I hit the ground hard again yesterday and my foot is very sore today. Nothing broken, but I can't keep doing this!! I won't last! But the other 11,999ft were a blast!
  19. A while back I found a disk of TETRIS that I had years ago. I put it in the computer and it ran SO FAST that it was not possible to even play level 1!! It was such a laugh! I used to play that game for HOURS on end!!
  20. Good morning! I am excited to report I got my AFF L2 jump in yesterday. It was the last load of the day and it was nice with the sun setting and the moon rising - very pretty. The freefall was awesome, but I landed hard (flared too high), completely forgot the PLF and rolled my ankle. Nothing broken or torn, but sore this morning. I am going to have to get better at this landing part. But at least I made it into the DZ. The other student in the plane missed the DZ and landed in a corn field on the other side of the freeway!! His new nickname is "Corn Boy"! But, wow, I loved the freefall!
  21. Greetings! I am aslo an AFF student in WI and Skydivemidwest is my current favorite place in the universe!! I am a total newbie - I have exactly 1 AFF jump to my name - the weather and my day job have kept me on the ground. I hope to get out there this weekend, however. Sue
