The Milwaukee Art Museum is an interesting building on the lakefront. You can go inside and look at it without paying to see the exhibits. Miller Park for a baseball game. Sometimes the building is more intersting than the game. 30 mins south of Milwaukee is Skydive Midwest - an excellent drop zone. And Edelwisse boat cruise is nice for the drinks and an alternative view of the city. Blu on the top floor of the Pfizter Hotel has a wonderful view of the city and nice drinks. County Clare or Brocka Irish pubs for good food and drink. Let me know if you need help socializing!!

I get these too. They are not from RW for me, as I can get them on any kind of a jump. I believe they are from the harness hitting you as the canopy opens. I used to get them all the time on rental gear. Then I got my own gear and they stopped. Now I got a new container and I am back to bruises again until I figure out how to tighten it up right!

I bought a pair of the tacky football gloves. I had a dream that the hacky stuck to my palm and I could not get it off and ended up ripping off the glove and throwing it and the hacky out!! Needless to say, they are not THAT tacky!!

Go to a doctor and see if you can pass a Class 3 medical, as if you were getting a student pilot license. If the FAA think you are ok, then maybe you are ok!

High-risk sports Research Please Help
sxc replied to FlyNika's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I quite your survey when the dropdown list for Nationality did not include my country. Apparently, despite the fact that you could almost see Ireland from altitude at Bangor, it does not seem to need to be inlcuded in your survey. -
He couldn't organize a f*** in a whorehouse. He could sell snow to the eskimos.

Who only does 50 jumps a year and transitioned to a 1.5 loaded Katana at 150 jumps? DocPop? Where did you learn that?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- how much time and money I have invested in canopy coaching and education. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keep convincing yourself that this is going to keep you safe under that canopy. ----------------- I don't understand your point here. How can education not help? Can you elaborate please?

She has no use of her right arm. During her tandem, her arm was held in place across her chest.
-
Yeah, google translate is not the greatest. And talking to my sister is not THAT much of a hardship!! Anyway, I read that website and while very interesting, is not totally relevant since the girl was born with no hand and has a prostetic. My friend just has no use of her arm. I discussed her situation with some other skydivers and we think that she needs to get into a tunnel to make sure she can fly first.
-
I have asked my sister (who is fluent in German) to take a look at the site and get me some of the information I am thinking about. Also, it looks like she is missing her left arm and has a prostetic. Interesting stuff! Thanks for the link.

>> raises the question: What is the bad arm doing during freefall? Good point. I am not sure. I suspect we will find out during a couple of tandems first! She said she could fly in the tunnel and was stable and comfortable, but I was not there, so I am not sure. I will have to find out!

A skydiver friend has limited use of her right arm. She can walk and lift her legs. She will be doing her first tandem post-accident very soon. She is an experienced skydiver and wants to get back in the air solo. She has flown in a tunnel and is not at all worried about the freefall. I started to think through how it might be possible for her to fly her canopy. I am sure she is not the first person to do this! I appreciate all the information and links. I did do a search on here but did not find any good information. I shall refine and redo the search.
-
I would like to hear from anyone who has experience with jumping with the use of only one arm - for whatever reason. How do you control your canopy and flare? I did a search on here and the last posts on this topic were in 2005. I am hoping someone has tried this since then!! Any and all information would be appreciated, either on here or via PM. Thanks

Should People Without Children Be Given Tax Incentives
sxc replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
It is not entirely true that we are not using the schools, even when we don't have children. We might not be using the school (for example) directly, but in the future, as we age, we are going to need doctors and other professionals. The professionals we will be using are the children that are in school now. It is in our best interest to educate and provide day care and other services, even if we don't use them directly. One of these kids I pay to educate may find the cure to the disease that might be killing me later in life. I see it as an insurance policy! -
I enjoy it. It gives a purpose to your hiking and takes you to places you would not normally go to. It gets you out in the fresh air!!

Thanks Rick for clearing that up. Unfortunately, 2 weeks ago when we were making the travel plans the girl who answered the phone and gave us the mis-information made our travel decision for us. So she cost you at least 2 more attendants and all the jumps we would have made. But I think I will put it on the calandar for next year. I need some mid-winter altitude (that won't freeze my butt off) and high altitude sounds perfect right about now!

I just called and asked. She said B-license was required. She did not say any particular jumps. I took this to mean for all jumps. ... a real-life, off the plane, Irish woman!
-
I was planning on going until I discovered that a B-license or higher is required. So the boyfriend could not jump. So we are not going to make the trip this year. I was kind of disappointed - it would have been my first boogie and it would have included my 100th jump! Maybe next year!

DocPop is wise in the ways of packing! He taught me and this technique works well. Take your time and relax while packing - when you get stressed about it, the canopy will too! Also, try talking your way through it. I discovered when I was showing someone else what I was doing and talking through it, it worked better!!
-
The staff here are top notch. They are very experienced and knowledgeable and willing to teach you. It is a great fun jumper drop zone. There is always someone to jump with!
-
I just called the post office near me that is on that list. They don't know if they are going to participate or not as it gets to be a lot of work. So I volunteered - to help out - with postage or toys or santa letter writing or whatever!!

If I should die while skydiving, know that I died doing something that I love and I don't regret a moment of it.

Thank you very much! This very topic has been the focus of my life for a very long time!!

I think you need to be very clear in your definition of laminar and trubulent, Organized, uni-directional flow is not necessarily laminar. It can be highly turbulent. Flow in a wind tunnel is wall-bounded. Even though it is organized and conditioned to be straight, it is still highly turbulent. It may be small scale turbulence, not visible to the naked eye, but still turbulent. Reynolds numbers for this flow are very large. Flow over a skydiver in the clear blue sky will also be turbulent. True laminar flow is actually very difficult to produce, even in a lab setting. The burble above a skydiver is the region where the flow has separated. If you ever see a video of a bag lock malfunction, you will see the bag getting buffetted around abover the jumper. The bag is being pushed around by the vortices in the vortex street that is formed when the flow separates around the sides of the jumper. It is also the reason why most ratty student jumpsuits are torn at the sides of the arms and legs. They are in the region where the flow separates and they whipped around in the vortices! PM me if you want to discuss this further!
