  1. Ahhhh, very well said. In my line of work, I do a lot of risk analysis, which sometimes becomes a rather lengthy and involved process. 2 elements that define how risky an event is are the probability and severity of that event happening. In skydiving, statistically speaking, the probability of having a really, really bad malfunction may be pretty low, but the severity of the outcome of having that really bad malfunction is awful. There's a saying about aviation... it's not necessarily dangerous, but it is terribly unforgiving. The same might be said for skydiving. Cheers - FunBobby
  2. Roger that. I skydive because I love skydiving. I didn't skydive to be cool, and folks don't think I'm cool just because I skydive... at least I hope not. I know lots of really cool folks who don't skydive, and I know some skydivers who are real a$$holes. Go figure. FunBobby
  3. Lots and lots of administrator controls and remote access capabilities on all the servers. Of course, the software is all microsoft, but all the privileges are tightly held by the administrators - you're locked out of doing all sorts of things that are normal to do on your home PC. The remote access thing is neat - when I had a problem I couldn't fix, I called the hotline, and within a minute, the guy on the phone (who was hundreds of miles away) had accessed my account, the machine I was working on, and manipulating screen items, inputs, menus, moving the cursor with his mouse and typing with his keyboard. Like I said, they're watching. FunBobby
  4. Send it my way. I'll get it to its best resolution/size so it looks as good as the website will allow. Blues FunBobby

  6. Some of us are not so lucky. Big Brother (Big Sister, too!) is watching and recording all computer activity. FunBobby
  7. Mine sez: You have an enicing kiss ~ the kind that stirs arousal and desire in your partner. This passion in this kiss is deeply rooted in the passion that you hold for things in your life, and it makes your partner yearn and hope that your kiss is but a fortaste of things soon to come. 8. Like I said before, very nice. I didn't get to take a skydiving Christmas picture this year, but here's one I sent out in my cards. It's inside an airplane, one from which I would rather not exit, though I've done it once. In fact, you can see the "exit" system (rocket assisted) and the "rig" in the picture. Hmmmm. So I guess it's sort of a skydiving picture. Anyhoo, to all who might see this, Merry Christmas! FunBobby
  9. Very nice.... Merry Christmas. FunBobby
  10. Okay, so I don't know as much about runway numbers as much as some other pilots in this thread. Of course, for the past year or so, most of my landings have been on a runway (can you call it that?) that has never been in the same spot when I touched down; it also has a tendency to change its angles of pitch and roll and even its heading, even with aircraft on final. It's also short! It's scary as shit to land on at night, too. It looks like this on final on a good day: (see attached) Try swooping that! FunBobby
  11. So this gal comes to the DZ to do a tandem, gets the required training and gets harnessed up. As we're walking out to the airplane, she asks her TM, a buddy of mine, "Okay... so, I guess I jump out, and you're following me? And when we need to open the chute, you come get me and hook up to me before we open the parachute? You know, like in that movie, Dropzone? What training video did you watch, missie? All you golden-haired ladies out there, please don't be offended when I tell you that she was blonde. FunBobby
  12. What I love about this are the "half truths" (or are they flat out lies) and oh-so-convenient mistakes our hero (NOT!) Scott makes on camera. He says "I deployed the chute..." WRONGO! He pulled the cutaway handle. Then he says "And the chute opened, and I looked up, and it was big and round..." Ummmm, were you jumping a round main? Yeah, this guy's really sharp. What was that saying? If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. Is this guy still jumping? FunBobby
  13. Sounds a lot like me (just not the "miss" part ). I was involved in just about everything, lettering in sports and doing just about all the other extra-curriculars. While never the leader of the pack, I was well liked and well thought of - at least I'd like to think so - and I had a few close friends and many acquaintances. I also did very well academically, graduating 2nd in my class, but I think think my grades generated as much resentment as they did respect. Of course, I had fun in high school. And I don't mean to be boastful when I say this, but the fact is, I worked hard, both in high school and in college, and that has paid off. I've been blessed with a great career and a fulfilling and exciting life. When I went to my 10 year reunion, it was kind of funny. There were a few really rich, snooty people in my class who did nothing but goof off and they didn't amount to much. One b--ch in particular, who $hit on everyone in school because she thought she was better than everyone, didn't make it to the reunion. I guess she was just not up to telling everyone that she was divorced with two kids and nothing to show for her life. So it looks like everyone got what was coming to them. What was that thing we learned in kindergarten? Some sort of golden rule? FunBobby
  14. I'm going to good-naturedly assume that remark was made in jest. FunBobby
  15. Makes sense to make them magnetic, too. Wind direction from the tower is always in magnetic; almost every aircraft will have some sort of magnetic compass, but not all will have the capability to align their compasses to TRUE north. That would kind of be a bummer if you're shooting approach in bad weather in high crosswinds to a runway in a region where the magvar is more than 10 degrees.... Blue skies - FunBobby
  16. Brett Poker You know, my father was Welsh, and my mother was Hungarian. That makes me Well Hung. FunBobby
  17. I drove from P'cola to San Diego in 1996, from San Diego to Jacksonville in 1997, and from Jax to San Diego last year, all for military duty. Each time, I drove fairly briskly, stopping only for gas, food, pit stops, and rest at night (each night, about 8 hours). Each time, I did the drive in 2 1/2 days. No kidding there. I always tried to get part way into Texas before stopping for the night - it takes all day to get across that state, and it is a terribly boring drive. Ugh. Good luck. FunBobby
  18. Really, really bad gas. FunBobby

  20. I've spent weekends jumping at Elsinore but am more of a regular at Skydive San Diego. Both are great places, but I would highly recommend San Diego. The staff is great at both places, but I know lots of the staff at San Diego personally, and some of them I have known and jumped with for years. I had met them at other drop zones across the country. I have every confidence in all the instructors..... apparently, so does the military, as they have contracted all their parachute training in the area to that DZ. What's your daughter going to do? Does she want to learn how to skydive? Does she just want to do a tandem? If she's doing a tandem, the view at altitude in San Diego is much, much better - coastline, Mexico, Coronado, the city, etc etc etc. Lake Elsinore is pretty, but I've talked to a number of the folks who came to San Diego for a tandem (specifically to that DZ) because of the view. There was even a father / son student team who drove several hours one way each weekend doing AFF (from LA!) because they enjoyed San Diego that much. Really, both places are great, but I guess I'm just partial to San Diego. FunBobby
  21. I thought that rule #1 was "There is no fight club." FunBobby
  22. Mine ain't bad either. Cat shots / traps ..... freefall / swoops - I haven't figured out which is more fun. Glad you enjoy your job. You're blessed... FunBobby
  23. There is a "personals" section in the classifieds.... FunBobby
  24. I know you're planning on getting rid of it, but I wanted to say that that's a nice gun. All the aircrews carried SIGs in that last conflict. Nothin' but the best. FunBobby
