Are you always nervous when you jump?
ifell replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am glad to see most everyone is nervous on on ride up, I always have this crazy serious look on my face. When the red light comes on I'm good though. Don't really get nervous around pull time, I like watch the canopy open up and swing me about like a rag lol. -
I thought it was champagne for your 1000th jump?

All that is left for me is the packing course and lately it has been too nice out for to give it so I am sorta itching for some rain in the near future so I can finally get that little piece of paper that says I can do a 2 way

Congrats! I want to do a 4 way hybrid for my 100th! Thats quite a spot!

These are my skydiving shoes! I like em for a number of reasons other than comfort, not sure if you can tell but they have netting all over and let the air flow through with the added advantage of having a really short drying time. The laces aren't an issue as you can tell by the pics as I have two options: 1st is the top lace which wraps around the ankle or I can just use the side strap.

Congrats on making the best decision you will ever make (getting clean) I know how hard that is and the sport really helps. Some chose fitness, some chose other sports to burn away the urge but what I like about skydiving is how it gets you so focused on your body, your mind and your environment. After the life I was leading 231 days ago being focused is a nice change of pace. Have fun, play safe! -
wow this seems to be more common than I thought! I had that happen to me on my 2nd solo jump. So if this happens so often why are those things still being used?

I think i might be a BASE jumper...
ifell replied to bloody_trauma's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I happen to work across the street from the highest inclined tower in the world, 583 feet! Everyday I think about making that jump. Plus its all wide open spaces at the bottom AND I have access to an employee access card! For now I am concentrating on getting used to flying under canopy but I really want to jump that tower -
Must be on your end cause still works fine for me

Did a search for this video but there was no way I was going to go through more then 10 pages of threads so if you have seen it... good for you if not not, enjoy!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZolZLJR8yRQ These guys were pretty much the first ones to get into the sport, hat's off!

So a solo belly should step out before a head down four way? these days I am always first out since most solo jumpers open higher then me (3500) and there is usually a fair amount of tandems in the plane I would not be comfortable taking off not knowing what the jump order is, thats something I like to know before I board. My main concern with being first to jump is feeling responsible with spotting other airplanes below. I spend the whole flight looking for airplanes instead of taking some time to relax and focus on the jump.

why would cold be factor? Dress warm! I know I plan on jumping all I can this winter... Flying polar bears!!!

Any safety concerns about jumping my iPod? Sometimes I feel having some music would calm my nerves on the way up
-
As someone else mentioned being scared will make you a safer jumper, and knowledge dispels fear! I get really nervous when I have to open the door, but the more I do it the easier it is for me to do it. I was so scared when I started my aff that I thought this was not for me but the more I learned about it the more fun I was having and now I am hooked!

I hope it never stops, it used to be sex, sex, sex, food, sex, sleep but now its more like jump, jump, jump, sex, jump... I feel weak FOOD, jump, jump

pull altitude for more advanced jumpers.

Started pulling @ 3500 when I got my Solo status, I don't plan on pulling lower! I enjoy flying under canopy and would like to do a hop'n pop @ 13500 on a sunset load. -
Went out last weekend and decided to try to jump without a jumpsuit for the first time. Noticed allot more drag since I was wearing baggy sweatpants and I must admit sunset run was pretty cold in a T-Shirt (well tucked in) other then that it went pretty well. This also coincided with some canopy downsizing so the DZO warned me about getting my clothes dirty... I did not!!!

First couple jumps I did were quite painful during the opening and I tightened and loosened and tried everything but it always hurt like he'll with bruises and stuff. During my aff I did 8 jumps in two days and I was almost ready to give up it hurt so much. One day on the way to Alt. I talked it out with an instructor and after looking at how I set up the harness he said to try holding my hand/arm further from my face to keep stability when I went for the extractor and as it turns out, that was it! I had a tendency to kind of dive when reaching for my extractor causing a greater impact when the canopy caught the wind. Since I have not seen you jump I can t be sure this is what you are doing but maybe keep it in mind next time you deploy your chute

Great reply, thanks for that! I am actually planning a trip to Zhills sometime this winter.
-
So how do try before you buy? I am in Canada and don't really know of any gear shops so I will be having mine shipped. Of course I would love to try out a couple different rigs.
-
Well I plan on buying new stuff so seeing as how you have like 15 years of FF under your belt are there any rigs you would suggest?
-
I just had read here that some canopies weren't good for swooping so I was wondering if you needed a specific type for that. Of course I don't plan on swooping any time soon but man oh man it looks like so much fun
