  1. I don't get it either.... from a friend who just happens to be a badass flyer and coach. This is not him or me. He shared it to give a nice example of a point that was brought up earlier. The barrel roll at the end results in a lost picture of what is below. http://vimeo.com/14382316 Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 2. Just a question.... with 152 jumps, if that is up to date.... do you not consider that "low jump numbers"? That jump number's up to date. When it comes to doing a barrel roll, no, I don't consider it a low jump number. When it comes to the grand scheme of life, sure, it's a low jump number. I'm a pretty humble jumper but I'd get a little offended if somebody looked at me and said "do you feel comfortable doing a barrel roll at the end of the jump?" Um, yeah, I've been able to do a barrel roll since AFF. Anybody with 50+ jumps should be competent enough to be looking around (left, right, and down) while tracking and capable of a barrel roll at the end. If that's truly your concern, that lower jump number people would have a hard time with it, then I don't think it's much of a concern. If the concern lies elsewhere, like messing with peoples' trackoff routines or it being unnecessary etc, then that's another story. I was just curious. No offense intended at all. A barrel roll like in AFF is one thing. A barrel roll in the middle or end of a track without changing trajectory is a whole different matter. Yes it is a concern because I have seen jumpers with 300 jumps that track in a zig zag pattern. I could say there are some high jump number people that would not be comfortable with it honestly. 4. I am curious how many people will answer like this. I didn't speak up right then and there and have been thinking about it since. 5. Thanks Avikus. Good thoughts but more concerned with someone like you actually (not you specifically ). Lower jump numbers, their comfort level, their skill level. I do not know what you are capable of in the air but I know many jumpers at your jump numbers that are not comfortable with the barrel roll or lack the skill to even do it without possibly causing a bigger problem. 6. Freefly head-up actually.... another thing to add. I was just back tracking so why do I need to barrel roll and go on my back again. I just got to my belly..... 7. I didn't want to create a poll and pigeon hole answers. Scenario: Organizer says on a final dirt dive (please make sure you barrel roll before you deploy to clear your airspace) I know this has been discussed and opinions vary but what I am asking is what you would do when they say this? Personally I do not see it as necessary at all and I am more than capable of executing it without altering my trajectory in a track. I clear my airspace by looking right, left, & through my legs while in my track. My concern is the low timers on the jump that then feel like they have to and are not comfortable with it. Would you speak up right then and there? Would you just do what you do and ignore it? Would you talk to the organizer about it after the jump? 8. I agree with what has been said to the OP but he is asking about drills and how he can work on these skills. Any comments on that? To the OP all of these guys are right. Practice, practice, practice but NOT with tandems! With all of that said I think it really is just getting used to your wings. I find that although there are fundamental things that can be passed on about any form of flying.... everyone flies a little different. I would have some fun with your friends and video them. Is there a 4 way team at your dz? I don't know many jumpers that would turn down video. Then you can practice. After that transition in to video without the wings for a bit and get good at position and knowing where you should be... then you can move towards the wings with the tandem. I believe it was DSE that told me something like.... you cannot get a great shot or footage if you don't know where to be and you definitely won't get it if you do not have the skills to get there. paraphrase but you get the point. 9. I'm not looking for a pissing match here - instead I enjoy and encourage healthy, intelligent debate. It's this kind of debate that has improved everything we enjoy in our sport and in fact our lives in general. You obviously have a concern for whether or not your aad has been recently checked and I respect that. What exactly do you consider to be recent enough? Is it the 4 years that Cypres requires? If so, why 4 years why not every 2 or 3 or even every year? You obviously know and I agree, that electronics can fail. Was it a conscious decision to choose the number 7 in your post? Why not replace it with the number 3? Do you send your aad in more often than is required? I had a friend in the mid 90s who's Cypres would not turn on after only 2 years. He sent it in and they told him the batteries were bad. They replaced them and all was good. Does that mean that we should actually be sending in our devices every 2 years? I'm also curious if you are aware of Vigil's stand that anyone can send in their device whenever they want. They will do the normal checks and replace the batteries if requested and charge no more than the normal service. I assume every company allows this. Why then do so many people choose to ignore this fact? Do they ignore this by choice or are they just uniformed? Are you aware you can do this? If so, do you have other reasons for which AAD you've chosen? Personally [besides my years in the sport and the people I've visited in hospitals and worse - buried] I have done enormous amounts of research on all my gear choices. My concern is that many people make their decisions based on stories they've heard on the internet or around the bonfire. I actually think you can learn from these sources but only if you question what you've heard and use your own critical thinking skills to help decipher the BS. Ask people if they've given any original thought to their statements or are they simply restating something they've heard. Basically I think it's OK and even fun to drink the Kool-aid because it tastes good - but before you choose to make it a primary source in your diet - do your own research and find out if there is any real nutritional value. Just my humble opinion. Sandy Grillet Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be. . I did miss your post... sorry. Are you related to Nick? Anyway, I randomly picked 7 so it had no real data behind it I was just making a point about electronics period. The problem is that people do not understand that it should be checked and serviced. Yes, I know Vigil says they will do this BUT people buy a vigil because their marketing suggests it is not needed. That is insane when speaking about electronics..... especially when talking about a device that is your last chance if really bad things happen. CYPRES requires the check imho for many reason.... 1st it is needed on a regular basis, 2nd KISS... if you mandate it people will get it checked unlilke Vigil who says they will do it but their marketing "suggests" it is not needed and I seriously doubt even 10% of Vigil owners take advantage of that. Third, quality control! A company that makes an electronic device that is meant to be a last chance and to save your ass should do quality control. All of these things I agree with. The situation you brought up about the CYPRES and it's battery. It may need something prior to the check date or later here and there... it is the nature of dealing with an electronic device. So really the question is... why would any company not mandate it unless it is being used as a marketing effort. Any competitior to CYPRES has to have differences to make their product viable right? First thing any competitor goes after is price.... and then they find other things that they think is not likes about the market leader and they market to that. That is what I think/know Vigil did. I think CYPRES does much more in terms of data collection than it's competitors. It is more advanced and a better AAD. I could go in to why but I to do not want to get in to a pissing match (not refering to you). The truth is it's actually not like a typical argument over a canopy bc it's what one jumper has currently in their rig. CYPRES is a better product. That being said.... I am not saying a VIgil or any other AAD on the market cannot save your ass when needed. However, the most important thing an AAD does is decide when NOT to fire. People do not often think about their AAD but the truth is it works more than any other piece of a rig. It is always working. I do not knock people for jumping any other AAD but I have a serious issue with people throwing out random statements that are founded in nothing. What you posed were legit questions. I hope I have covered them. Rob Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 10. It sounds like you are the one full of emotion on the topic. Like I said jump what you want. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. Muff Brother #4382 Dudeist Skydiver #000 www.fundraiseadventure.com
  11. That is why I'm going by what the manufacturers say. I'm trying to be objective here, but all you seem to have is an emotional response about what you'd want when you are on your back unconscious. That is just fear mongering. Airtec also engages in fear mongering in it's advertising, so you fit right into the marketing plan. My opinions are indeed mine. I'm basing them on what the makers who do the testing say, and on the track record in the market. What are you basing yours on? Your favorite flavor of koolaid? There is actually zero emotion in my response. I am just pointing out what you are writing is way off base and backed by nothing but opinion. That is evident by your lack of knowledge on the subject by beginning with a statement like "90's technology". Jump what you want just don't try and spread your off base opinions as fact. 12. You really do not know what you are talking about. I am really not trying to attack or bust your balls at all. I am just telling you that you do not have a clue about the technology, the business, etc. I realize you are voicing opinions here which is fine but many things you have said could not be farther from the truth. 13. 90's technology? LMAO ..... what a load of crap. You have no clue what you are talking about if you really believe that. In addition, I know that ALL electronics have a life span of x and that ALL electronics will eventually fail. If I am banking on something to save my ass should I be knocked out I personally want to know that it has been checked recently. I personally don't want to be falling knocked out in say year 7 of my AAD's service and the thing has never been serviced or checked. Please tell me what electrical appliance you have that has lasted 10 + yrs with no issues. If you can come up with one I will guarantee that someone out there has the same model you do with problems that you did not have. 14. Right.... so if it were me I would flip that person a cool million I think. First for respecting elders (rare these days) and second because she won a TON of money because of it. What's a mill to her now? No matter how much money a person has, they always have the ability to spend more than have. A mill here or there adds up. The winner has kids, grandkids, they all desrve their fair share. I'm sure the requsts for funds from around the universe have already exceeded her winnings. I hope the winner has enough time to enjoys her winnings

  16. It's an auto lotto isn't it? The computer selects the numbers for you. Granted out of the many that bought around that time it could change them. However, had that person not let her cut the timing for those numbers would have been different. I'm pretty sure that is how it works but I do not play so I could be very wrong. 17. Hi Pops I want a Pre Nup. Did anyone read the article? It says that someone let her in front of them. The sweet old lady was treated properly. I want to know if she is going to give a little to the person that let her cut in front? She won on a "quick pick" not her numbers so that nice person may have just cost themselves millions by letting her cut. 18. Just how we like it. I think it's Stephen Fry who describes Brits as the only people who would introduce their best mate to someone as "And this is my mate Dave, he's a complete cunt". You're not really mates with someone in Britain unless they're happy to slag you off and call you names. And you're not really mates with them unless you take that as being the greatest compliment possible. Seems the same's true of Oz. That is the same with my friends. That may be why we have three friends that are from the UK..... they were introduced to us and have been friends ever since. I'll say this.... I do love a cup a tea, the Stones are awesome, and Kate Beckinsale is extremely HOT! I also love my friends from the UK and when I have been there I enjoyed myself. The art of swearing has really been taken to a whole new level by the Brits too. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 20. Fisrt... I posted it as kind of a joke but since you responded with that..... I will counter and say "good ol CNN polls" Love them. http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx approve 49% disapprove 44% http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll 48% approve 50% disapprove http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.html CNN clearly the outlier Below 50% is "not perfect" when he was just re-elected. I think he will stay between 45%-50% because that many people do not give a rip or actually believe that this many things can happen under his administration and he knew nothing about it...... ya, riiiiight. 22. Oli.. I was not referring to you. I was addressing the others and I was not saying they were not who they claimed. I was simply saying they are new and obviously joined to post about this topic and only this topic. I then added.... good for them for supporting a friend, significant other, or whatever they are to you. I think something was lost on the internet. Typing and not speaking in person can do that. I was not trying to be offensive just bringing up points and opinions I had. Everyone needs to breathe. 24. This is true, the christain church is very much in decline in the North East states, Oregan, Washington State to name a few. But its also very much on the increase in the south. Lakewood church in Houston has roughly 20,000 plus in attendance every Sunday morning, Sagemont Church in Houston has 2 services with about 10,000 plus in attendance in total and 2 awaken services that are for the youth with about 1,800 in total every sunday morning. Then there is City Mark church that started less than a year ago with only 140 attending and now has roughly 660 every sunday. Marseille France, has a Underground church located there which started over a year ago with just 3 people. It now has over 40 meeting every sunday. 3 of them were Muslims and 3 others are Pro Soccer players. I use the term underground because they meet in a home. I know this is bad news to ya. But we hope to be around for many years to come. My concern is we might be the next group sent to re-education camps for a shower. After all there are those that think a world without religion, replaced with humanism would be much better. OH, just want to give a shout out to the NSA that is recording all our statements, HAVE A NICE DAY I think Christianity is on the upswing.... Catholicism is on the decline along with other very structured protestant churches i.e. Lutheran/Methodist churches. 25. Adam... I am not saying anything negative really. Nor am I saying that the data collected is not relevant at all. I am suggesting that the study needed to look at other factors then "Adam" decided to equate questioning things to being a skygod which makes no sense. I say studies like this are cool... I just had an opinion about it that I shared. Cheers to you brother. The other guys posting, now a count of (2) that have never posted before....... good for you cheering on your friend.
