Advice for faster than normal landings
LaRusic replied to TerminatorSRT4's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I used to be in the same boat, no wind landings always ment being ready to plf because i couldnt run out the landings. then i got some really good canopy coaching which is pretty well what Drew has been talking about. best piece of advice i got was fly your canopy until it cant support you anymore and then put your feet down. it has really helped my landings, now i look forward to no wind days cause i enjoy that last little bit of flying. Im in the army, run lots. I think nike runners are shit, they dont fit my feet right at all, same with adidas. best runners in my opinion are ASICS, with new balance and Sucony a close second.....make sure you are actually getting runners and not cross trainers or any of that crap remember to replace them about every 6 months The Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver # 10

it will be a top mount, i think its too wide to side mount as well. The Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver # 10

Both those are quite the setups, you guys dont screw around when ya start mounting gear to ur heads thats for sure haha. I can see how having a box on the side would prtect against riser strikes as it looks fairly wide. Well here is the short of what im doing. Over the winter months im gonna try to design and fabricate my own box for a video camera. (not jumping it, seasons over and im 120 jumps before i'll attempt it) Now heres the question, i mostly see them made from carbon fiber but im wondering if fiberglass would work as well. Or if not.....why not. I know carbon fiber has a better strength to weight ratio but i see people jump cameras not in anything so is this really a big factor? Thanks The Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver # 10

Having done both Military and Civy jump training i believe you are being a bit cautious. To do 5 Static line jumps on the military side i did 2 weeks of ground training then 2 jumps a day on the jump stage. I think the major difference between the 2 is that in the army you are expected to control everything first time through where in AFF you do one thing at a time to avoid sensory overload. As for the instructors not coming down on you i think its just the way they are, I, however, have been with one instructor who will flat out tell ya you suck if you suck... but at the same time this is not the army anymore and some people get very worked up if you come down on them too hard and may not want to jump again for fear of screwing up. As for the drinking, you are right, alcohol and aviation dont mix, this is why drinking is done after last load and not during the day when jumping is going on. A good reference to follow is no drinking within 8 hours of making a jump. That was our rules on the military jump course and thats what i stick to when civy jumping. Again this is personal opinion

Pain in the ears while falling
LaRusic replied to StanBrooklyn's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think one of the reasons this happens is because of the rapid change of air pressure causing a difference in pressure between ur outer and inner ear (dont know technical terms) Same thing happens in scuba diving when decending and one trick to qualize the pressure is to plug ur nose and try to blow out ur nose, i do this after im under canopy a lot of the time.
