How many of you have forgiven Osama Bin Laden?
RhondaLea replied to ReBirth's topic in Speakers Corner
"Your enemy is never a villain in his own eyes. Keep this in mind, it may offer a way to make him your friend. If not, you can kill him without hate, and quickly." Robert A. Heinlein Sometimes even those we forgive need to be dead. I should have said this in the other thread, but I was trying then to answer the question as it was posed. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Maybe they have evolved. I still find it a very strange choice to use bikers in the role of peacekeepers. I would also find it strange to use skydivers or rock climbers in that role, and they don't have a skeleton in the closet. You're talking about a group of people who, as a whole, do a lot of charity work. You can google for it, but we have runs down here all the time for various good causes, and of course, they regularly do "Toys for Tots" runs at Christmas. This is just one more example of donating to a good cause. I would use anyone who can be organized into a peaceful group to achieve the end desired--in this case, an undisrupted funeral for a dead soldier. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. I also vote for "sticky." What a great thread. One of my favorite all-time newsgroups is alt.possessive.its.has.no.apostrophe. I go there sometimes after reading here just because it comforts me. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I was 11. I remember it pretty well--11 year olds aren't stupid, by any means. Still, I'm living here near Daytona, and I have a pretty good view of how bikers have evolved in the past 36 years. Well, it's a matter of personal preference. Consider stevia--it can be used as both a sweetner and a skin treatment. I find it to be sticky and messy, and I only use it in my tea, but others disagree. There is a long history of foodstuffs being used on the skin, and that's fine by me, but my own preference would be to ingest food, not wear it. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gets my vote. I'm kinda surprised at you, John, that you would reference an incident that occurred in 1969 as evidence that bikers are not a good choice. There are many more bike clubs these days that are organized around positive activities than there are gangs. Times have changed. The group mentioned here is just one example of that. I know you mentioned legal action, Jen, but if you think it's possible to get a restraining order, then you misunderstand the right to free speech. It boggles my mind that in your mind blocking this group of hate-mongers is the equivalent of "vigilantism." It plays out as "it's okay for the hate-mongers to disrupt a funeral, but it's not okay for bikers to disrupt hate-mongers." Sorry, can't follow the logic. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Deland Police Change Story About Gus Wing
RhondaLea replied to a topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is pretty much out of the hands of the police and in the hands of the State Attorney's office now. My experience with that office (dating back a couple of years when I worked in a criminal practice with a former ASA) is that the lawyers and their staff are competent professionals. The police have already had to suffer the humilation of backing down off the "racing to the ground" and "playing chicken" allegations. Given the FAA outcome, my take is that Bill has a good lawyer who will deal with the State Attorney's office in a competent way. If I really believed that calling the local police names would affect the outcome, I'd not have made any of these posts, but at this juncture, they're not especially relevant except as an example of bad attitude and poor police work. I'm quite sure, though, that if I ever get stopped again for a traffic violation, I'll be getting more than one ticket. That'll be fine with me. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb -
You spelled my name wrong. But thank you for the thread. I gotta tell ya, though, this ain't much of a sex thread. If this is the best y'all can do, I'm worried about the future of the human race. If some guy gave me diamonds, he wouldn't be getting a blow job. My first engagement, I got exotic tortoises. Later presents were more critters. I've received computer memory for Valentine's Day. And skydiving-related things when I was jumping. Stuff like that'll get ya a blow job or several, as well as anything else you want, but jewelry? Could you forgive somebody who murders your loved one?
RhondaLea replied to Bigwind's topic in Speakers Corner
Uh... ...you forgot the part about "an eye for an eye." Anyway. A few years ago, my mother called me crying and said, "Mickey's dead." He was my favorite cousin, and his ex-wife's boyfriend shot him to death with a handgun. As I said, he was my favorite cousin, but I could see how this might have been self-defense...or maybe not. To this day, no one has really sorted out what happened. I don't know what I would do if someone hurt my daughter but based on the above and several other incidents in my life involving people I have cared about, I do think I would be inclined to forgive and try to go on. The other side of that is I do truly believe that the inability to forgive hurts the grudge holder more than it hurts the perpetrator. I've held some grudges in my time, and I know I feel a lot better now when I can just look at the grudgee and say, "Oh well..." But I'm not sure you can know until it actually happens to you how you're going to feel, and each instance is always going to be different, depending on the victim in your life. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. We seem to be talking about a couple of different things in this thread. Relationships up to marriage (or long-term cohabitation) are a testing ground for lifelong commitment. They give us the opportunity to find the right person. The question was about pursuit. I've already answered that. The next part of it is that someone who is on their way out of a relationship is not the most stable of potential partners--although sometimes it works out okay. But the answers I don't get--well, if you have two people who are attracted to each other, and they're both interested, even if one is in a relationship, then it either says something about the relationship or about the person in the relationship. (Best to find out which ahead of time.) It's one thing not to hit on your best friend's girlfriend or boyfriend. I don't see, though, what anyone owes to a stranger whose relationship is clearly not working out. The reason I picked your post to respond to is what you said about balance. It's a discussion I had with someone just recently, and one that I've had more than once over the years. And what you say is absolutely, unequivocally true. So my question is, if you're attracted to another person and that person's relationship is not balanced, where's the wrong in testing the waters to see if there can be balance between the two of you? We've all had our hearts broken, but nearly one hundred percent of the time, it's because we were with the wrong person for us. What is the impetus to stay with the wrong person when the right person comes along? And don't say that if we're with the wrong person, we should break it off and be alone until the right person comes along, because sometimes it just doesn't work that way. Sometimes it takes a cattle prod in the ass for someone to realize just how unbalanced and bad for them their relationship really is. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. I voted "other." If we're going to have a sex thread, then let's have a sex thread. I mean, a real one, none of this double entendre, skirting the edges bullshit, but flat-out graphic erotica. What I'm saying is the sex threads aren't really sex threads, and if you're going to burn bandwidth, you might as well get it right. rl Edited to add: No, I won't go first. You can characterize my opinion, John Wing's opinion and the opinion of two people who have lived in this town for longer than your lifetime as an "emotional outburst." That does not make it so. You know nothing (or at least you've offered no facts) about the DeLand Police Department. I, on the other hand, read the local paper every day, and a good part of my day--every day--is spent listening to an oral history of the town and the county from someone deeply involved in the local community and its politics for fifty years. This started as my disputing the contention that it was "Florida police." I'm not inclined to brand all LEOs in this state as being bad, because I don't know that to be the case. But I do know about the town where I live and work. You've spent time here, perhaps, but I don't hear you saying that you lived here. I don't much appreciate your trying to make this about me, but that's how you argue with everyone, so I accept it as what you do. It's still fallacious. For your edification, "guilt" is defined as: "The fact of being responsible for the commission of an offense." In law, it is defined as: "Culpability for a crime or lesser breach of regulations that carries a legal penalty." rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Deland Police Change Story About Gus Wing
RhondaLea replied to a topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Really? I have been jumping in Deland since 1996 on a regular basis. Was on a team FROM there for three years. My ex-wife was a manifestor there, I met her there and got married to her there. I guess almost 10 years of jumping there does not count I'm not talking about spending time at the dropzone. I'm talking about spending time in the community. I lived and worked on the dz (manifestor, just like your ex) for two years (1999-2002, but I don't think we've ever met), and I knew almost nothing about the town, its history, it's culture in that time. Now I never go to the dropzone, but DeLand is my home, and I have learned quite a bit about it in the past few years. Anyway, I'm not going to argue with you anymore. I've posted John Wing's letter to the editor. Take issue with him. You've gone from "don't be too hard on the cops" to "Bill is guilty" and I can't take it. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb -
