faulknerwn replied to starkmtn's topic in Canopy Relative Work
You don't have a location in your profile. Post where you are and you might find some folks! -

Sinking: Z-Po vs. Lo-Po (F-111)
faulknerwn replied to stitch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Why makes it a false sink? You can definitely sink ZP canopies straight down. -
I periodically post this to make anyone feel better who's not a "natural" student.. http://crwdog.servebeer.com/CRWdog/HowCRW.html The above link is my student logbook - I did the static line progression (with a couple of AFF thrown in) and I pretty much sucked :-) But I stuck with it, now have almost 6000 jumps, an AFF instructor rating, and some CRW world records to boot... Just because something doesn't natural to you - don't sweat it. Keep plugging away, don't get discouraged, and you'll get it eventually. W

We're doing Jack's ash jump a week and a half from now.. I'll be doing video and pictures if anyone is interested.. W

I prefer the student squatting in the door - right foot forward, left foot back, head outside facing the prop. One JM out, one in. One of our older instructors prefers the reserve side JM out front-float, student middle-float, and main-side in the door. Both work. I think the first is easier unless the student is really large...

You can get an aftermarket tail pocket sewn on easy - just off the end of the tail so no canopy changes needed and just plop rubber bands on it.. It took my rigger 5 minutes to make one on one of my rigs..

I’d like to start a new CRW Database for CRW jumpers.

Probably 75% of the email list don't read dropzone.com so its good to have both... The list has been around for longer than his website... -

If you go to groups.google.com you can join an email list called crwdogs - its a discussion list many people use for CRW -

That's awesome that you're making a website. Post it on the crwdogs google email list if you haven't already... -
Depends on who you are jumping with and what you want to do. Lightnings still rule for big-ways - many competition teams are jumping Storms now...

I just started a Blue Skies forum about Jack. I would love to hear more stories about him - I only met him when he was in his 90's and well past his jumping days. He still hit on me and every female that walked by however :-) He was really fun even in old age. We'll miss old Jack at the dz... Wendy

Longtime skydiver Jack Joerns passed away on Friday. Another thread here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3591774;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Jack was long past his skydiving days when I met him, but many older skydivers will have stories to tell I'm sure. I can attest to the fact that even at 92, he was still hitting on every female that walked by like any true male skydiver :-) BSBD Jack...

Man I didn't watch the guided tour - just the specs - now I really want one! The store is overloaded right now - I can't buy!

I so want the new cool iphone. Adds new features and is supposedly much faster with longer battery life.. I've currently got the oldest one but use it for everything... I've gone through the buying process but haven't clicked the final ok.. I want it but don't need it. And my phone bill will go up about $15 a month with it.. I so want it though... Anyone else?

Thanks! Parachute Panic is funny! Our latest addictions are ifishing and flight control - both VERY addicting!

Just remember there are good rigs that can be bought even new much cheaper that are still good - Dolphins and Shadow Racers come to mind. If you buy some of the not as popular canopies many can be bought cheaper too... Don't get me wrong - the more expensive canopies and are absolutely good stuff - but there is also great stuff that is cheaper and perfectly good and functional :-)

Her teddy bear still sleeps by my bed at night.. Awesome chick with such great potential. I still think about her regularly....

Its normally at http://crwdog.servebeer.com but seems to have gone MIA. I'll contact my buddy who runs the server and see what's up...

Light students - which solution would you prefer
faulknerwn replied to Baksteen's topic in Instructors
I completely agree. A typical student rig weighs 25 pounds. Adding 10 pounds of lead puts a 100 pound trying to lug around over a third of her body weight. And most tiny girls aren't army chicks used to lugging around rucksacks... -
You might ask some CRW teams - I know there have been ones with 3-4 cutaways on one jump! :-)

The funny part is - the only nightjump I ever did which I had altimeter problems was an analog! I was doing a 4-way night jump with some friends and I wanted to leave higher than they did. But at the time I had an analog altimeter, and everytime I looked at it I could read the numbers but not the needle! No idea why I couldn't see it but I was basically looking at a blank altimeter! I ended up breaking off at their altitude (we all had at least a couple thousand jumps so it wasn't dangerous - I'm just a weenie when it comes to night jumps :-) I've had 0 issues with my variety of digital altimeters at night...

Why do you want them? I've been doing CRW since 1996 and have only seen them once - that was on a New Zealand CRW canopy. They're not very useful in modern CRW.... Or are you thinking of 2-1's?

I disagree about ease of use. I have 18 reserve rides - 1 of which was on a soft handle. That one took me longer to find it, was harder to feel, and took longer to pull (had to remember to peel off the velcro.) That was reserve ride either 17 or 18 so it wasn't like I was a rookie at this. It disturbed me enough that I didn't jump the rig again until I had a hard handle installed.
