List of Jumpers I Should Have Heard of...?
NovaTTT replied to Namowal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
All these high-falutin' names being tossed about but the one name that matters is the one that has been ignored and overlooked! You don't need to know anything that you can't learn from the greatest sky-jumper of them all: Wally Gubbins "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Administrative rigging question / FAA oriented
NovaTTT replied to piisfish's topic in Gear and Rigging
My understanding is the FAA shows only the date of the most recently received rating on the Airman's Certificate. For example, you became a senior rigger, back type, in 1970 and added a seat rating last week. The FAA will list you as a Senior Rigger, Back and Seat ratings, 10/22/2012. It is also my understanding the dates are discreet, so a rigger date will not change a pilot date, for example, but each will show the most recent date of certification. From article: "And hope that stunts don't crowd out genuine progress in science and engineering." Doesn't she realize the progress of science and engineering were inextricable from this stunt? Both on the front and back ends? "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73

USPA SIM: G. Minimum opening altitudes [E] Minimum container opening altitudes above the ground for skydivers are: 1. Tandem jumps—4,500 feet AGL 2. All students and A-license holders—3,000 feet AGL 3. B-license holders—2,500 feet AGL 4. C- and D-license holders—2,000 feet AGL Looks to me like his container is open. What's the problem? My understanding is the Vigil is compatible with rigs that are configured for a CYPRES. From the Vigil II manual (emphasis added). Similar instructions are found in the Vigil manual: The Vigil® has been designed to be compatible with most sport rigs on the market today. If a suitable installation kit for an electronic AAD is not yet installed by the rig manufacturer, a Vigil® Installation Kit (pocket, loop, washer and cutter retainer) can be supplied and installed in your container by the rig manufacturer or by an authorized rigger. It can be easily sewn into any harness/container system designed for an electronic AAD. All reserve closing loops currently on the market that are similar to Vigil® Dyneema or the Spectra CSR style #9512-300 or the Cypres™ Loop (Spectra Cord) are acceptable for use by the installation of the Vigil®. The Vigil®’s cutter must be positioned as specified by the rig manufacturer’s instructions for electronic AAD’s. Bump from an old, other post. . . . In Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The process is simple, because technical specs are the same (AS8015/B). As soon as you get your J or E-Tso-C23d you send all paperwork application to your local NAA. Then they get in touch with the FAA to obtain the TSO-C23d approval. Then you wait several months to get it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- . . . to discuss this: Anyone know if a TSO label is how JTSO approval is shown? Meaning - does a foreign JTSO'd rig that has been approved bear a TSO label or is it perhaps just a document issued by the FAA and held by the mfgr? Anyone have experience with this? NOTE: Please ignore the "Techno Square Reserve" cross-post. Sorry, Greenies. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73

Right you are - I intended to say FAA. Thanks for catching and clarifying! "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73

AADs are not TSOd so they are outside the purview of the FAA. It is up to the manufacturer to indicate which AAD is compatible with their system. What is binding is that the FAA say AADs are compatible only if maintained in accordance with the AAD manufacturer's instructions and guidelines. So Airtec, for example, can put a 12 year life on their AAD and once it has lifed out it cannot legally be used in a skydiving rig. FWIW, AADs are not TSOd "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73

A firm starting point. Thanks for the info, Abedy. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73

Anyone familiar with this PEP of German manufacture and if it is TSO'd? Cheers! "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73

I'm remembering the drive to Jenkinsburg from Atlanta, which once off the Interstate was a quite pleasant drive. As I got closer to WW, the excitement would build and I had to make an effort to keep my speed down. Great place to be a student jumper. Sad day in 1985. Glad to have known those I did, briefly but genuinely. BSBD "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73

This opens a closed case for me. A GQ Security 350 that I've declined to work on is sitting in a box in my loft waiting for the pilot to come and claim it. Based on a 02 Dec 2000 document that indicates a 15 year life limit from date of manufacture subject to a critical inspection at 10 years I've not worked on the rig, which is otherwise airworthy after a few minor correction/repairs. But I don't have and can't locate an original manual for the 350 - only the 150 and 250. Anyone have an actual 350 manual or know if, as I suppose, the life limit was related to the closure of the company and not part of that manual? It's not the same, Terry, so I've gone from no way to email Marc to three ways! And I'll try them all! "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73

I opened and inspected this GQ system today. I'm including some photos. I was interested to find non-separable direct line attachments (019). A flat diaper was installed, presumably by SES, but it is unmarked and unrecorded (037,038). The pack configuration (012). This was an interesting inspection. Received today for I&R a GQ350 with a SES 26 Midlite. I told the guy I'm not going to work on the GQ system but he agreed to let me hold onto it for inspection. I'm looking forward to finding out what's inside, as I'm curious how the previous rigger fit the Midlite into the GQ, as the Strong diaper creates uneven line lengths. Anyone familiar with the Strong conversion diaper? Cheers. N "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
