  1. Terry, the Cirrus was span constructed 5 cell. That may have had something to do with no taps. Still had chordwise xell seams. They could of. Hmmmm, Just walked by it laying on the floor last night. I have so much STUFF laying around. (see old gear thread) I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  2. Phantom 28's are great mains for the newbies. Just put it on three ring risers and in a dbag with throw out oc. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  3. Colonel LIngus for president. A new kind of Bush. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  4. Seems like the go to my basement. Alot lately seem to in mice infested totes in the back of hanger and barns. It's very hard to through away any rig. But old Struggle,Struggle,Thumps are easier. We had a woman around here in the 80's who made lined hooded jackets out of military canopies. Radial seem down the back and bias panels as chevrond in design. Very nice. Included stash pocket. I still have mine but way too big for it now. Lately our DZ has taken a bunch of stuff to the dump. Good thing for my basement i wasn't there. But i had already gotten 4 or 5 bins with such wonders as a ragged out unit and strato cloud. (Anybody want them?) Of course the rest of the old fear goes to likstojump to put on ebay. But when i wanted a pop top reserve a few years ago i couldn't find any. Now finaly have two. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  5. Half a winner. Butler HX AND LoPo. And current online manual has it recommened ever 2 years and required at 10 and 15. I don’t remember any requirement for lopos but haven't dug out old manual. And they have pulled the requirement for tube stoes for the diaper locking stows. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  6. But Rob, what about the quiz? Has nothing to do with the acid mesh era and doesn't require pH testing. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  7. That's the easy one. With clamps shown for packing in the FAA Handbook I make sure my rigger candidates know about it. Before he put the ban in the manual Red used to claim that clamps weren't allowed because it didn't say they were in the manual. I argued that with several references to tensile testing including the FAA Rigger Practical Test Standard that absence of any statement allowing them didn't mean they were prohibited. I guess he finally agreed with me that if he wanted to ban clamps he had to say so. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  8. What currently sold canopies currently require PIA TS-108 tensile testing at particular points in their life? And its not PD reserves. PD recently deleted that requirement. Particularly want to know if Rob knows. An easier question that all riggers should know. What reserve manufacturer PROHIBITS clamps on their reserves for any purpose, packing or pulling? If your a rep for one of the manufacturer's that is an answer disqualify yourself. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  9. How big a guy will fit in an MC-4 harness? Looked in manual but couldn't find it. We've got a 6'6" 320lb guy, beyond student status, that needs something to jump. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  10. The real danger of the rear prop is probably an early deployment. It's one thing for a canopy to clear a tail. Another to clear a spinning prop. Would probably take down airplane. Real impediment to jumping out of "your buddies" airplane is usually the insurance company. Insurance usually say no skydiving and most pilots don't want to fly with void insurance. Keeps me from jumping out of the T-6's I pack for. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  11. "Adjustment/timing" from the seller may mean more than what we mean by timing. Still pretty cheap. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  12. My cirrus cloud didn't have tabs. The remenants from the rings may have been used as tabs but seems like everything else had tabs first. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  13. Even though the Strong TNT manual includes the FAA TSO letter for f the FAA website doesn't list it. The SIFE manual says is was tested to TSO C23f, not that it was approved and no approval letter is included from the FAA is included. What is included is an Austrian Civil Aviation Administration approval referencing TSO C23f. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  14. I'm not familiar with the company or the rig being in "FAA land." Was it approved by anybody to begin with? Since you asking us I assume the factory doesn't exist anymore. If not approved by anybody AND I was in Canada I'd either convert it or find a similar bag and exchange it. I think you recall and know that the original swift bags were closed with two o rings in place of rubber bands. Then the retrofit kits to convert the bags to safety stows were distributed by Paraflite. If your a certain manufacturer your would probably just add eight rubber bands. Or tell the customer to buy a Vector II and Raven for $500. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  15. I routinely recommend the higher rated butler chutes and have anout 10 that i service. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  16. As I recall, only the SAC canopies ( under an FAA AD ) and the Phantoms ( under a SB ) were the ones having to be tested. Pioneer AD http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library%5CrgAD.nsf/AOCADSearch/E2298A242C935A4286256A39004DEA58?OpenDocument And the general Australian Parachute Federation RAC adds GQ England and Eagle. 19. The short answer to your questions are no, no, and no. An EXPERIENCED rigger can tell you how much out of trim your canopy is and in general what condition your lines are. No one can predict if they are going to break in the next 20 or 30 jumps, or if you canopy performance is going to go to hell in the next 20 or 30 jumps. We might be able to make a guess with a precision of a hundred jumps. If jumping is more important than possible broken lines or degraded canopy performance then jump. If you have a line set already a master rigger with a bar tacker can put them on. (Some will argue any rigger.) Actual work time is a couple of hours plus on minus an hour based on experience. Get in his or her schedule and you won't be of jumping more than a couple of days. BTW the sky isn't going anywhere. Err on the conservative side and if someone has told you then need changing then do it. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  20. Thanks! I'm not organized enough to keep this all this downloaded. PD answered a facebook message and should be sending it also. Still can't get into their NEW website. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  21. If I remember correctly GQ closed up shop in the U.S. in 1984. By definition any U.S. models are at least 32 years old. Walt, I'd like to see that manual statement too. I don't believe there is a U.S. manual with it. But they were making the same rig for sale in the UK and elsewhere with sizes in meters. Look in the front for description of the canopy and see if it metric. If so it's a UK manual. You have my email. If you can take a photo and email it to me I'll get it up here. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  22. Need a line trim chart for original sabre 170. PD's site has been down for a while. Or the appropriate email and I'll ask them to send it to me if their email is up. Hmm, but nobody there today. Need it now. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  23. Just left the pull up cord in. Use an Allen Silver closing tool to crank it down. Temp pin below makes it very easy to put rc pin in. Can unsnap training rig and use their own if they want. For all the newbies that don't take advantage of banging harness a 1974, 75 RW world champion couldn't make it to safety day and called to see when he could come by for practice. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  24. My hanging harness this year had a rig with a temporary pin under the last flap in the loop with tbe rc pin. And still a rock climbing swivel. So they cutaway using real three ring, drop abot 15 inches to secondary risers and can pull the ripcord against a real, packed reserve and loop. All while spinning between 30 and 60 rpm. Drop is far enough to scare them. PC doesn't launch and takes about 30 sec. to reset reserve rc with closing tool. Hard on gromment but this is a retired javelin. I'm old for my age.
