Full Face vs Open Face Helmet Question?
mcordell replied to bowbender45's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have jumped both and much prefer the full face helmet. I haven't had any problems with fogging, but the few times it has started to fog up under canopy I just lift the visor. I don't wear it in the plane and only put it on for take-off and again on jump run. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging -
So your problem then is that for you, the actual application of honesty and integrity was so incredibly difficult, that a mere apology for inconveniencing you wasn't enough. You wanted them to thank you and offer you some sort of reward in return for you not taking advantage of an error on their part. When you didn't get that, you came here looking for someone to tell you that you did a good job and thanking you on behalf of the skydiving community and perhaps humanity as a whole for your incredible act of honesty. Did I get that right? If you have such a problem doing the right thing and ensuring a company that supplies skydivers doesn't endure a loss (which ultimately gets passed down to us), then perhaps you need to evaluate yourself and take corrective action. Why would you bring this whiny shit here into the forums where people have already told you that you are acting like a child and then continue to argue when everyone disagrees with you. Perhaps if EVERYONE is disagreeing with you, then it means you are wrong. I fail to see the poor customer service here. Poor customer service would have been to expect you to mail it back on your own, which they didn't. Unless you live up in the mountains, 2 hours from the nearest UPS drop off location, I fail to see the problem. Go get a cheeseburger, drop of the package, and quit whining about it. Edited for language..... www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

Weirdest Malfunction ever - packing mistake?
mcordell replied to mindcool's topic in Gear and Rigging
it's not my setup, but it looks like the wax cord is punched through the webbing of the riser and knotted so as to hold the rubber tube which provides just enough resistance to keep the slider grommet under it. Seems like a reasonable solution actually...... www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging -

right, but I didn't tell anyone to fill theirs out www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

seriously.....fill out your profile? Yours says you have been jumping for one year, have C license number one, and have one jump. Perhaps you could offer some constructive information to answer his question. I do agree though that one should wait until they have at least made several jumps before investing in gear so that they will know what they want. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

I recently bought a reserve from someone here on DZ.com. I called him and spoke with him about it and when I told him I wanted to buy it he immediately went on the ad and listed it as sold. I didn't have the money to pay him for about a week and when I finally did pay him, he already had it boxed up with my name and address on a UPS label which was already paid for. That is how the sales should go on here and I couldn't have been happier. My reserve will be in Tuesday and I'm pretty psyched. Thanks Dave Chrouch! I don't agree with someone calling you back to solicit a higher bid once a deal has been made. I wouldn't do business with someone after that. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

the waterproofing isn't the only difference. I know the viso II also has a daily jump counter in addition to the regular jump log (for those who make so many they can't remember?) and it is much easier to turn the backlight on and off. It is also lower power consumption so the battery lasts longer. I know there are a list of differences but this is all I remember off the top of my head. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

Fortunately I have a vector I that only had about 5 or 6 reserve packs before it was tucked away. The velcro is in outstanding condition and the vector I pilot chute still measures 25 pounds so I don't have to replace it yet. The only problem with it was that the harness was designed for someone much smaller so I had the harness replaced. It's ready to be packed up now as my second rig. I called UPT and spoke with pablito in the rigging loft. He seemed stunned that I had asked for a vector I manual and is supposed to be getting it digitized now so that it can be put on the site. I have looked everywhere else with no luck so if anyone has a copy they can send me via e-mail or whatever I would greatly appreciate it. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

I need the Vector I packing manual. I have the wonderhog and vector II manuals, but of course the vector I closing sequence is different in regards to the top and bottom flap sequence. I looked on various sources such as upt's website and parachutemanuals.com but cannot seem to find it. I also searched the forums and could not find anyone else looking for it that got a solution. Anyone know where I can get a copy? www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

Hearing protection on ride to altitude..

Let me start off by stating that I don't want to see anyone's ratings pulled, nor am I "bashing" your dz; however, you want us to look at the facts first, so here they are. As others have already stated, CReW with tandems has been banned since long before these videos were shot, yet these TIs and Videographers engaged in behavior which they knew to be wrong and illegal. Furthermore, the fact they determined they should not be doing so any more, as you stated, indicates they knew the behavior was wrong in the first place. I agree their canopy skills are quite impressive and that their actions led to the production of some pretty impressive videos. This however does not excuse their behavior. Simply stopping the behavior does not negate the fact that they engaged in the behavior in the first place and that they were wrong to have done so. Roman Polanski raped a girl 32 years ago and is still being held accountable. Just because he may have stopped raping 13 year olds doesn't excuse the fact that he did You wanted us to get the facts first, so there they are (polanski aside). www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

In the US the regulation governing sport parachuting states that if an AAD is equipped in the rig it must be maintained according to manufacturer requirements. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

I'm sorry but that's a ridiculous question. In North Carolina, where you stated you reside, mere possession of a fake id is an arrestable offense. Possession or manufacturing a fake ID in NC is a class 1 misdemeanor which carries with it a presumptive sentence of up to 100 hours of community service and/or a $1000 fine. You could be arrested and, if convicted, may have a difficult time getting into a college of choice. The DMV will also revoke your driver's license upon conviction of possessing or manufacturing a false id and you will be ineligible to get an emergency restricted license to drive to and from work. Selling said fake documentation is a felony in NC by the way. Finishing your post with "haha thanks for the help :D" doesn't actually cause anyone to dismiss the question as having been in jest by the way. You seriously need to assess your priorities. Good luck to you. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

so an expired cypres will still continue to function on a jump? I thought they disabled themselves or something and wouldn't work for jumping. And yes I know that you aren't lawfully allowed to use them outside the manufacturer required maintenance yada yada yada..... I'm just curious if one could theoretically continue to use it as long as the battery lasts. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

I think the best outcome here would be that those involved are made aware of this thread, refrain from engaging in this behavior in the future, and move on to conduct business in the safest approved method possible. While I would hate to see such obviously skilled canopy pilots lose their ratings and subsequently lose their ability to introduce others to the sport, I would hate even more to see a tandem passenger and TI killed because of their carelessness. Get it together guys and move forward in a professional manner! www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

Clearly I didn't point out spelling error to refute his argument. His argument on judging distance was adequately refuted in the majority of my post. I pointed out his spelling error because it is irritating. My post was on topic, related to the thread, and specifically addressed his argument about judging distance on video. Only the first sentence of my post addressed his spelling errors. None of what you typed was related to the thread at hand however, much like this reply. Oh, and there is nothing wrong with my sentence structure either. I'm not aiming to write an academic paper, but rather engaging in casual conversation. Let's get back to the topic of the thread with future posts though. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

You might take a little more time to ensure that your posts are grammatically correct before you start flaming other people. Furthermore, it's not difficult to judge distance when the damn canopy is bumping against the tandem passenger. I'm pretty sure that the fact the tandem passenger grabs the top skin of the videographer's canopy provides a relatively good reference point to judge distance. Sounds like maybe you jump here.... www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

is the damage in a location where the risers push against the riser covers as they are being forced from their closed position? If the damage isn't coming from the grommets of the slider, then perhaps it is coming from the friction against the rig upon opening. This seems very unlikely as it is such a short distance the risers actually travel where they could rub on the rig, however if your rig has stiff tuck tabs, perhaps the riser covers are being forced against the risers on opening harder than usual. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

I'm just going to avoid it all together I think. I found a raven from someone reputable and I'm going to try to get that one. Thanks for the help. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

I didn't think they had. The first thought was that this was a scam of some sort since the username has never been used to post but the listing didn't have the telltale piss poor grammar that readily indicates it is a scam. Thanks. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

I'm slightly confused by an ad in the classified section. It lists a Raven II reserve with a square footage of 160 sq ft. The type of canopy is listed as a Raven Dash-M. Now I know the Raven II is a larger canopy, as my raven I is 181 sq ft. I cannot find a Dash-M that was made in a 160, sooooo, what the hell are they referring to? I noticed the user name has no posts at all in the forums. Is this a real canopy that I just can't find information on? Did they make a 160 Sq Ft raven? Also, what year did they start making the Dash-M because the manufacture date I think was in the 80s and I thought they were newer than that. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging

mcordell replied to gnatt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yea, it was more a reference to the fact that something seemingly benign can have unfortunate consequences. I changed a pilot chute on my rig from a standard pilot chute to a collapsible pilot chute and made a mistake which resulted in a pilot chute in tow. It was my fault. I thought I understood but didn't. I think perhaps there are at least a few out there at my DZ that won't jump with me because they view me as unsafe as a result. I don't know this for a fact, but I believe it to be the case. A simple mistake CAN have drastic consequences and in this case, those involved didn't recognize the difference in thread. I will get the information for you and post it. www.facebook.com/FlintHillsRigging
