I was at archway in the old sparta illinois days bsing on the dz and bemoaning the fact that although I had been in a few 10 12 ways and bigger I was allways stuck as base and had never closed 8th or later.I made the comment that hell if i could get my scs I'd buy TWO! cases of beer. well stuff was standing there and overheard this. bing bang boom! next thing I know we are geared up heading to the plane with an 8 way planed. I'm last out of the queen air and diving down to the formation going gotta get there ..(flare) don't take it out. repeat repeat. I stair step my way to it. fall on chris aut's brothers back. somehow it takes the hit. I reach over and grab wrist grips and drag myself off him and into the formation. we are all grinning and kicking our legs and stuff shakes everyone off him and turns and tracks. let me tell ya when stuff leaves 1st your humming it. not that we took it low or anything but I don't think anyone on the load made the dz I went straight to the beer store and bought my two cases i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . a guy was putting together a load out of mullins k/a years ago with me as base naturally. yeah i get sideways looks sometimes when someone asks me to sign a log book and i put my a 14048 down they will have this puzzled look and ask HOW many jumps do you have keith? I was channel surfing and caught a " daredevil video clip" show last night the quote goes something like this. for some daredevils jumping out of a plane wasn't exciting enough. so swooping was invented " in swooping you exit at 5000 ft. open your parachute at the last possible moment and depend on a tiny pond to break your fall" and while the voice over was saying this crap they were running footage of people doing hop and pops or short delays they had to try to fuck it up that badly i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . i bought the suit used. it's one of the older style raptors with the thumb loops. I can get about 1 third of the way up the riser with everything still zipped and closed. not enough to get to the toggles. but enough to make a bit of a riser turn if i need to. haven't had to make a quick turn to avoid anyone and hope i don't. but it's just something I've found i can do. i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . o.k. so I'm a fat fuck and i admit it. but i got about 50 jumps on the old raptor now. I know I've got a long way to go in getting the max out of it but. getting avg in the high 70's low 80's all the time. without buying a larger suit or loosing a ton of weight. I'm just guessing here but thinking somewhere in the high 50's or low 60's might be all I can ever hope for. is that way out of the range you want for base on a flock? just curious. i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . doing some two ways the other weekend. opened up with 1 and a half twists. I'm flying backwards looking up at the tail. muscle memory took over i grabbed the base of the risers gave a big kick. got out of a half twist for a split second then the twists turned me back around facing the tail again. but at least that told me that my airspace was clear and i didn't have to chop to keep from crashing into someone else. the old trusty sabre was flying along just fine with me facing backwards. so I unzip the arm wings grab risers and try to kick out again. get out of the same half twist. and then get turned back around facing the tail for the 3rd time. shit! unzip the legs. cross my arms spread the risers and start riding the bicycle and ever so slowly the damn things untwist. took at least 30 seconds or more to get out of. everyone I've showed the footage to got a good chuckle out of it. if i wasn't so damn worthless on the computer I'd post it to u tube and put a link on here. got to love the old school sabre though. it handled it fine i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . sweet weekend 3 on fri 26th.
