The way he was whipping it around I thought it must be a model chopper and forced perspective filming. I couldn't get my mind around someone making a helicopter perform like that. I'm sorry it seems most folks day sucked. My day was actually pretty good. My wife has been off work for a week or so, so to get out of the house, she went to work with me. We finished with what I had to accomplish today early, so we scooted off to the movies, and saw "Taking Woodstock". A very enjoyable film. Also, I just got back from a couple hours at a friends house helping him pull the carbs from his seadoos. Gearing up to go spend the weekend at the lake, at my wife's yearly Choctaw indian pow-wow. I'm not afraid of them, but I do respect them. If I don't know the species of the spider, I treat them as venomous. We do occasionally get a black widow's nest or a Brown recluse around my home. The problem is there is no "standard 260". Make of the canopy, wear on the canopy, even within one make and model it varies some because of manufacturing tolerances. There are a whole host of different brands of "student" canopies, and they will have slightly different flight characteristics. I have test jumped a couple of the same model and size of F111 student canopies at my DZ, one was descending at 13 ft per second, and the other (much more ragged out) descended at 16. So, you could create a formula but it would only be specific for that parachute. Now, if you want a ballpark, figure this: Decending at 14 feet per second, with a glide ratio of 1.2, or 1.3. That gives you a forward speed of 18.2 feet per second(at 1.3), or 12.4 miles an hour. Oh, and I suck at math, so one of you brains here straighten me out, because that seems a bit slow.
