Hi Sky-Mama,
The rig was in a parked car in front of an indoor climbing center. Someone destroyed the car window and reached in and grabbed it.
The climbing gym, www.magicmountain.de, later said that they have at least 3 thefts a year but do not warn their customers because they are afraid this will scare them away. They do not even have a sign warning you not to leave valuables in the car. Their parking lot is not insured and, unfortunately, not guarded. Now I realize I should have left the rig at the reception.
It was just a series of bad decisions, starting with the rigger saying he would bring the gear with the repacked reserve to the gym Friday night so that I could jump Saturday morning. I just should have said no to that offer because it was clear I would be climbing for 3 hours and had no place to put it. I could kick myself, daily. I miss my rig. And I don't want to spend that huge amount of money again for a new one.
Thanks for asking. I think about nothing else 24 hours a day. Right now I'm at work and it's all I can do to not tell anyone my plight. They think I'm crazy anyway because I skydive. If they knew the amount of money I just lost they would give me a jester's hat (or an asylum jacket) and place me in the corner.
