Thanks. I pray that some rigger will notice and turn the thief in when he/she tries to sell it or get a repack. Or that some skydiver getting onto a load will say, "Hey, wait a minute, I saw that Viper on dropzone.com. It's stolen!" By the way, one of my best friends has Lupus. Nice to know that you are involved with charity work for this project.

How much is a teadrop classic, DOM 1997, worth?
-
I sent Thomas Sports an Email saying I needed the SN and DOM because it was stolen. I didn't specifically ask them to take note, but maybe they wrote it down somewhere in their records.

Hey Virgin, It really does say on their website that I would have had to pay extra to have auto theft covered: http://www.hamburg-mannheimer.de/NR/exeres/FF1A3EF4-6AE9-4113-8D1E-5E0C5B72E1DA,frameless.htm But worse than that, when I talked to their office, they said they would have only covered the theft if the rig were in the trunk. And my girlfriend had put it (in the gearbag) on the passenger seat. Also it is a grey area as to how many hours after 10 pm auto theft is covered. I have heard from others that you can only leave your rig in your car 4 hours during the day and 2 hours during the night in order to be within the standard auto theft coverage. We left it in the car for 3 hours while climbing. So, pretty much any coverage would have said no for these 2 reasons.

Could somebody tell me how to make a Stolen Gear sticky?
-
When I read your email, at the bottom of the page was a google ad for a car anti-theft alarm! LOL! Believe me, I filled out the insurance form the night of the theft, but they sent me a letter saying my renters insurance didn't cover it. I can only hope the fools try to sell it at one of the two near-by dropzones, because they were notified immediately. One of them had just done the repack. Today I gave the police all the Serial Numbers and more photos. They said they are watching Ebay (as are all my skydiver friends) but can't do much more. I like stories about recovered gear. They give me hope.

Wow, what a beautiful rig. I feel for you. Mine was just stolen on March 28th. I feel like I've lost a child. If only we had put GPS homing devices in them!
-
@saskia: The Atom-guy wrote me back saying he sold the rig and got the price he wanted for it!
-
It's already sold. He forgot to take down the posting on his local dropzone's website.
-
Ohhhh, sounds nice!
-
OK, thanks a lot. The seller hasn't emailed me back with his price yet. 1,880.00 Dollars is what Square One lists as the new price. (I will be paying in Euros).

I am trying to piece together a used system. Today I found someone selling a Silhouette 190, DOM 07/2000 with 109 jumps. How much is this worth? RB
-
Hi Saskia, Thanks for the advice, I'm going to tell the Atom-guy I'm not interested. Harry - is the new Paratec Energy (NRG) main canopy elliptical? Would it be the right one for my niveau? RB
-
Hi Saskia, Assuming you speak German here is what the Atom-owner says: Du musst halt bedenken, dass das Cypres Ende November nicht mehr lufttüchtig ist, dann also nur noch einen Restwert von 100,- EUR hat (gg ein neues Cypres). RB
-
Sorry, Saskia, I didn't mean to offend you and your rig. I bought my Teardrop because I liked it's look the best and I had jumped on Teardrops as a student. Here is the info on the Atom Atom 34-1 DOM: 09/96, 460 jumps Sabre-1 170, DOM: 07/96, 310 jumps Reserve: PD-160R, DOM: 01/96, 0 jumps AAD: CYPRES-1 Expert, DOM: 08/96 He wants just under 2000 Euros.

I did some googling under "Paratec neue Hauptschirm" and found nothing. Are you sure they are releasing a new canopy? Either way, the NEXT Rigger/Salesman still hasn't written back with a price. But I've gotten an offer on a cheap old ATOM. Man are they ugly rigs!
-
Wow! I could've called myself Gearless_Rebecca! Great name. But I hope my gearless state won't last for long! Thanks to all for the advice. I think if I do buy a new or used rig, I will stay at 190 or go down to 170. Not less.

I jumped a Spectre in Perris while on AFF and later when getting my license and loved it. But a Spectre is 7-celled, isn't it? Well, maybe Faqtor would be the best. I don't want an elliptical swoop canopy.
-
Well, I'll see what price he actually offers. Sounds like the rig would be fine. Paratec offers 4 canopies. I would like a semi-elliptical again, but can't quite figure out from the website which one would be right. I am guessing the V-Tec. It sounds like the balance is simply a rectangle and the other two,Faqtor and Rage, are elliptical. Not sure here. RB

My gear was stolen a week ago and a German rigger said he would make me "an offer I can't refuse" on a NEXT container and new Paratec Main. What do you all think about NEXT? And can you recommend a Paratec canopy? I am a beginning skydiver who has 300 jumps on a Silhouette 190. http://www.paratec.de/
-
Thanks JohnRich, but the problem was that it was stolen out of my girlfriend's car and she doesn't have theft insurance. I do not own a car. I ask friends to take me to the dropzone (because I spent my money on a rig instead!!!). We have looked into all the insurance possibilities and they have all said no. Sad but true.
-
Hi JohnnyZ. I weigh 154 lbs + 20 for gear is 174 pounds divided by 120 is 1.41. That seems a very high wing-loading. At the dropzone last weekend they wrote .9 in their records.
-
But if I got it and sold it I wouldn't be true to her goal, which was to hand on the baton from a skydiver leaving the sport to a new one in desperate straits. She can sell it herself (and by the way, she didn't give me any DOMs, so it might be almost-out-of-date). Also, she found me through my old AFF teacher, so he would've probably told her if I ended up not jumping the rig. Somehow the selling it idea sounds like bad karma, and I've had enough of that this week.

My rig was stolen 5 days ago and some very nice people who heard about my plight on the internet are offering me free or cheap gear so that I can continue training. One woman offered me her old rig because she has given up the sport, and it's just lying around her apartment. This was her rig: Vector III micron, Stiletto 120, PD126R I told her that I only have 320 jumps and the last 300 have been on a Silhouette 190. I said going from a 190 to a 120 without having done 170 and 150 in between sounds life-threatening to me, and declined her offer. Was I a fool to say no to a free rig?
