  1. You're right...just looked outside and it looks crappy once again. I did 3 tandems in March and the last one was on the 22nd (of March) so I guess I'm more current than you "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  2. According to the DZO, if the jump happens, you're one of my AFF instructors "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  3. Weather prevented my jump once again...I still went to my DZOs house and dropped off a case of Sam Adams Summer Ale =) because my jump is now scheduled for tomorrow at noon. The weather forecasters around here pretty much have their heads up their a$$ because their predictions are right maybe half the time. Keeping my fingers crossed "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  4. I think my jump might get rained out once again this weekend...I just got off the phone with Theresea and they're setting up the DZ so we just have to wait and see until tomorrow morning. The time when my jump is scheduled (according to weather.com) there isn't supposed to be any rain at that time. However, the winds are also supposed to be ENE 13mph which is too close to AFF restrictions I know this is expected during student status...Either way I'm still going to show up for the beer "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  5. that and many more at bored.com "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci

It was an awesome episode last night. I kind of figured "she" might die eventually. I don't want to give it away if you didn't see it yet. Can't wait for next week, wonder if "he" will get his revenge? "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  7. I appreciate everyone sharing. I like to hear how skydiving has impacted peoples lives in a positive way. "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  8. I appreciate you guys sharing. Some of my friends think I'm crazy for wanting to skydive. I think there is a little tiny quirk in all of us who skydive, weather it's 1 jump or 10,000 jumps that puts us apart from the rest. I notice it just in talking to people who skydive and have hundreds or thousands of jumps and then you talk about skydiving to someone who doesn't and you feel like 'ehh go away, I need new friends' lol well not exactly but you know what I'm saying. "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  9. I'm all out..so I'm going to finish typing this and go get me a case of Sam Adams...and some food too. "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  10. at least someone gives a shit "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  11. Feel free to respond...just asking if anyone has ever found comfort in skydiving after losing someone? After reading some of the incident threads, it's hard to believe that no one here can relate... "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  12. shouldn't this thread be under the "Safety and TRAINING" section like mine is? lol "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  13. So amidst all my excitement for skydiving, there is something that lingers in my mind a lot...my brother. My brother passed away from a very rare type of cancer, at 25 years old, in January of this year. My life and world had completely stopped and it wasn't until sometime in March when I made my first tandem skydive, that I started to feel alive again. I guess in a way, skydiving has been this new found outlet and joy in my life, a kind of therapy I guess you could say. Has anyone else ever gone into skydiving after losing someone close to them, that can relate? I feel like I have a different outlook on life and I'm more ready now to really focus on my goals and dreams, and just make them come true. I know for a fact that if my brother was alive, he'd be going through AFF training WITH me. I felt like he was right along side me on all 3 tandems I've done thus far. In summation, I feel that skydiving has opened a lot of doors for me and in my mind, helped me find life again. If we live our whole lives without taking any chances at all, have we really lived? We continue to raise money for those in similar situations as my brother, feel free to make a donation... www.stephenjkunitskyfund.org "Because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well, and yet everything happens only a certain number of times ... How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood ... that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps 4 or 5 times more. Perhaps not even. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps 20. And yet it all seems limitless." -Paul Bowle's Sheltering Sky "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci

Damn you skydiving, why do want all of my money? lol "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  15. Thank you so much for the kind words. I really like that quote...might have to use it! "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  16. The way my instuctor put it is that we shouldn't be worrying about them at all because we each have our own job to do. I would worry about hitting them during deployment though because sometimes stuff happens....this one look like it hurt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_be7Rr-pUs I've been practicing my jump over and over in my head. I also practiced my arch standing up and on the ground. The emergency procedures were drilled into my head but I still go over that. I basically picture the jump from take off until landing in my head. Now I'm sure this has happened at least once because I saw one video on youtube...How many times do AFF students practice things on the ground, are a good student, but then once in freefall they just draw a blank and forget what they're supposed to be doing? I guess I could see that happening out of pure adrenaline, fear, anxiety, etc...but I know for me personally, on the tandems I did, I loved every minute of freefall and the canopy ride was just as awesome. The ONLY part I had ANY reservation was the time it took to get up to altitude because I could feel myself get very anxious and just wanting to get up and get out, safely of course. Let's see if I can get a 30 to 1 ratio this time (for every 30 reads, at least 1 person responds) lol "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci

I'm confused... This thread was started years ago so I'm guessing maybe DZ.com wasn't the same. I noticed that all you have to do is click on a username and if that person took the time to fill out their occupation and home drop zone (which some people haven't), it's listed right there, hence why start a thread to ask? However, I'm just going to assume it's because the site had changes to it. I just dont understand how this person got 7 pages worth of responses to something that you can already now find the answer to by clicking (assuming it's been filled out). Then on the flip side, I post a thread about my first AFF and ask for any advice or encouragement, and I can't even get 10 replies...on a SKYDIVING forum...lol Hmmm... "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  18. I tried to get 'high' today but the drop zone was closed...The DZ owners love 'drop-outs' (it was funnier when the DZO said it today but hey I tried) "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  19. Thanks for sharing. I'm glad to hear that you're alive and well. Live and learn right? "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  20. I'll get to meet Chad on Saturday 4/26 and perhaps peregrinerose the next day. She also might be an AFF instructor on one of my jumps
  21. Did all my AFF 1 training but no jump today because of the weather... it closed the DZ for the day. I learned a lot though and had fun practicing my PLFs and emergency procedures on the training rig. My jump is scheduled for Saturday 4/26 now, weather permitting. I'm going to be getting video done so I'll share it here on DZ.com with everyone. This is going to be a long week of anticipation but it's so worth it. "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  22. Hey congrats! My first AFF is tomorrow if the weather cooperates. Keep us posted on your progress and wish me luck. "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  23. lol thanks "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  24. 33 views so far and no advice? tough crowd "...And once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return..." - Leonardo da Vinci
  25. I could build you a computer for about $1,500 and it will blow away anything you can buy from Dell or Sony =) I built my computer 3 years ago and it's still better than anything on the market today that you would spend $2,500 to get. Not bragging, just saying that there are ways of buying computers that no one really thinks of.
