  1. Please tell me that that putz guy didnt actually win in court. He pulled the wrong handle. he hit the power lines. In australia the judge would have laughed at him. The instructors did everything they could to save him.
  2. you may even be able to go a bit bigger. my original slider was 24 x 27 my new one was 33 x 30
  3. I have heard this advice from a few people. I spoke to my rigger who says he has had maybe 20 clients over the years approach him with early model sabers and monarchs complaining of brutal openings. The saber manufacturers recommended a bigger slider to fix the problem. My rigger told me that putting bigger sliders have fixed the problem on all of his previous clients. So i was fairly confident that this was the way to go and it worked great for me. I really wasnt concerned about harder openings as i didnt really believe that a canopy could open any harder than mine was doing to me already.
  4. I am sure that bill with 5500 jumps can land a reserve that is 30% bigger than his main quite safely.
  5. putting a bigger slider on it is an excellent option as well. i had the same problem with a monarch 215 that opened like a bastard. i put a slider on it that was 50% bigger than the original one and it worked unreal. much better openings now.
  6. 260 is a good starter size for you. i reakon that after 50 jumps or so you will be looking at downsizing so dont blow alot of money on your first canopy. check out the classifieds section and get a f-111 with a couple of hundreds of jumps on it for around 200-300 bucks. that way when u downsize you wont loose much money on it. cheers
  7. if your packing a zero p this can be a bastard. my tip is to get all of the air out of it first before you start folding it into the bag. once the air is out you need to work quickly before it re inflates itself. keep one knee on it to stop this happening.
  8. I know there is alot going through your mind before an AFF jump. I tried to concentrate on as soon as i let go of the plane to push my hips as far forward as possible. Relax is the big key. If you relax the wind will push your body into an arch naturally. If you are all tense you may be unstable.
  9. Great post. I can still remember my Stage 1 AFF i was so flamin scared. Getting out that door was the hardest yet most fulfilling thing i have ever done. Welcome to skydiving. You are hooked and now you will know how a drug addict feels. I count the days until my next jump and re live my last jump.

    Monarch

I brought the monarch zp canopy which is a 215 sqf 1993 model. It had done 80 jumps and the first time it opened it nearly killed me. It was extremely painfull and not fun at all. I had tried different packing methods like rolling the nose numerous ways. I had 4 different people pack it their own different way and do different things with the slider. Nothing worked. After reading about early model saber canopies doing a similar thing I decided to get a bigger slider made up. The original one was 610 x 710 mm. the new one measures 750 x 850 mm which was 47% bigger. The first time it opened I waited for the snatch to happen but it never did. It now opens great. I am only a beginner jumper so I havnt really experienced a modern canopy open so I cant really compare it to one. All I know is that I am no longer in a lot of pain after opening and now my skydives are 100% fun fun fun. The monarch flies and lands great. I love it.
  11. Then let me be the person to tell you that he doesn't even live up to that expectation. As I said before, a lot of what he shows is horrible advice. For example the above water cutaway with RSL attached. That's just wrong on so many levels. I remember watching one where he decided the best way out of the "situation" was to go down 12 MILES of rapids by holding on to a log. Again, that's so wrong on so many levels it's almost criminally negligent to put it on the air. Okay buddy so you are lost in the amazon and nearly dying. i will happily float 12 miles down rapids in a few hours why u spend 3 days walking that distance. You will be dead while i will make it out. You obviously have no survival experience.

    AFF Phenominon

No one had to push me to get that dam "A" license. I got it in 17 jumps. had my own rig in the garage and dying to go jumping on my own.
  13. very true. Even though i hate cops i dont think this cop should go down for this.
  14. This is terrible. The cop should have had his sirens on. The boy shouldnt have been riding his bike with no lights and at night in the middle of the road either. Where were his parents ??
  15. get the newest and least jumped gear u can afford. if u got $7000 then go and buy a new rig, if not then there are some good deals to get u started for around $1500 in the classifieds section. Stick to a 1.0 wing loading for your first canopy. Dont get caught up in the jumping a smaller canopy crap to early. I have heard bones break and its nasty.
  16. Hey Amanda dont say you've only done 7 jumps as a negative. Be proud of those 7 jumps u have done. Its not easy getting out that door during AFF and you have done great so far. Thats 6 more jumps than 99.9 % of the population have done.
  17. I reakon getting caught up in the whole downsizing thing to early. Get a big ass canopy and fly it for many jumps. Dont worry about the size of other jumpers canopies. One day when u have to land off in a small area or the shit hits the fan you will be thankful that u have a nice and big docile canopy over your head. I have heard bones break and its not nice.
  18. I think the bottom line is that u should get the newest and least jumped rig u can afford. I recently brought my first rig for $1000 with a cypres. it was a 93 model rig with 120 jumps on it. i loved it, sure its not the latest gear but its safe and flies awesome and has alot of jumps left on it. It sure saves wasting money hiring gear. Your a big guy so will probably need something around the 260 for your first canopy.
  19. Hi Amanda, welcome to skydiving. AFF was the best fun of my life and it sounds like you are having a ball to. Dont worry to much about having a problem or 2 during AFF, im sure we all had a thing or 2 we had to sort out during our training. If you are having problems getting your legs out maybe try pointing your toes, that worked for me. Good luck.
  20. your right buddy. our skyvan has 2 brand new motors in it rated at 850-1000 hp each. i have been told its climb rate is 1500 feet per minute.
  21. c-130 your kidding arnt u ? what dz regularly runs one of those babies? they would be worth heaps. not to mention fuel for 4 motors. i dont mind the noise of the skyvan. its size and climb rate kills the pac 750.
  22. I have done it a few times buddy. put the value down as $500 and it will go straight through. it is a major pain in the butt if u write down $1000. it will take 2 weeks longer to get to you and you will have to fill in 5 pages of forms. also just insure it for the $500.
  23. you must not have ever jumped one of these babies. you can stand up inside them and fit maybe 30 jumpers in it. run out the back. jumping doesnt get any better than this baby
  24. does anyone know what the specs are on this windtunnel?
