I'm 100% satisfied with my Infinity and I subscribe to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", so I'm going to stick with VSE in the future. I'm the only Infinity owner at my DZ and while visting I haven't seen a single Infinity rig either... perhaps they're not very popular in Australia?

At what jump number did you start BASE?

Has basic skydiving become an obstacle?
Chubba replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Solo's bill... not 2-ways. I go on every 2 way that pops up, which despite my low jump numbers I'm usually the more experienced half... I love sliding away and waiting for pins. There's no way I'm going to belly fly solo though, I'll choose a sit or a track every single time. -
The Great AFF Experiment has been an Abject Failure . . .
Chubba replied to NickDG's topic in Instructors
We're still around :) I really took for granted all the experienced jumpers paying out of their own pocket to watch me float, backslide and screw up exits all over the place for my first 50 jumps off my A-license. Now that my rel skills are somewhat acceptable, I really enjoy taking out A licensed jumpers and doing some of the initial troubleshooting... its all part of the fun. -
270 your first year, that's a bloody good effort.

Couldn't you check your pillow when doing your 3-ring maintenance?

Has basic skydiving become an obstacle?

I can only speak for myself... I started freeflying straight out of AFF and I'm counting down the jumps till I buy my wingsuit. That's what you get on small C182 dropzones, with AFF's running all day you might only get to launch 1 x 4 way on a weekend, the rest are 2-ways or solo's. Belly flying by yourself absolutely sucks... messing around learning to sit though is pretty fun and I bet solo WS flights would be a ball too. I'll take up any RW dive that appears, but unlike some of your big turbine DZ's, we don't have the option avaliable 24/7. -
Is Tunnel Time worth it? 17 jumps here.
Chubba replied to George_ORH's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I say jump, get more canopy time and start saving for your first rig. I would definitely rate staying current, staying safe under canopy and getting your own gear WAY ahead of any potential RW gain in the tunnel. -
My altitrack is closing in on 2 years, no problems here.

I absolutely love hop n pops. I try to go out on the weekdays when the old blokes are training accuracy do only hop n pops. Great time to learn how to spot too.

I've got into the habit of doing harness turns @ 1.0 because of Brian Germains article on coordinated turns. I have no idea if it's actually doing anything TBH, all it seems to do is make newer jumpers go "wtf are you doing with your legs?" when I land :)

Question about logbooks and currency
Chubba replied to ikon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't be afraid to ask for signitures, especially from visiting jumpers. The best pearls of wisdom always seem to come across when signing logbooks. I really wish more experienced jumpers got their logbooks out at the end of the day. We had a group of visiting experienced jumpers come out for the day recently... at the end they started handing around their logbooks to be signed by multiple A/B licensed jumpers they took for rel dives... suddenly every single person at the DZ pulled out their logbooks and it was a logging frenzy. Sometimes it seems like a chore and the nerdy thing to do for newer jumpers. -
L&B sure do rock, you send them an email asking about pricing for replacement parts... Suddenly you got a box at your door, with not only the mentioned parts for free, but a bunch of goodies you never even asked for.

How do I shop for a 1st rig? And advice on a specific rig, please.
Chubba replied to Erin84's topic in Gear and Rigging
It's very important to talk with your CI/instructors about your canopy choice and your downsizing. Very small jumpers need to wary of additional risks. -
143 reserve at your weight would be too small at low jumper numbers. Why not order a larger container and get a reserve that's loaded more lightly? Is 165 your bodyweight or exit weight?
-
Jump numbers are a bit behind, I'll be passing the 200 jumps in 18 months in another 3-4 weeks if the weather stays good. I'm sure I'll like it, the reason I signed up to AFF was for wingsuits... been having plenty of fun in the meantime, but I have definitely been counting down the jumps. It wouldn't hurt to have another intro suit at the DZ, I think the DZO's BM intro suit is very outdated. So you can't fly a Prodigy with a Phantom even if the other pilots are 50-60lbs heavier? Excuse my lack of finer knowledge.
-
Small single C182 dropzone. No BASE. Majority of flights will be solos, only 4 wingsuit pilots all up at the dropzone... every now and then a 2-way or so pops up, wouldn't be a weekly occurence though. 2 of the jumpers have Phantom2's, the other 2 similar sized BM's.
-
How long do you think a new jumper would be happy on a Prodigy2? Is it possible to flock this suit with a DZ full of Phantom2 (and the equivalent BM suit, can't remember) jumpers? All these pilots are 200+ exit weight. The suit doesn't seem expensive ($850 AUD) and I'm quite light (~160 exit weight), I was considering grabbing one when I pass 200 in a few months... surely it couldn't hurt to put a 100 jumps on this suit? Or will I not be able to fly with others at all and get really bored.
-
1.5 Cobalt at 100 jumps? Holy hell. He's only going to need one hairy landing, he'll either scare himself straight or end up in a wheelchair. Surely there wouldn't be a single DZ that would allow him to jump that rig?

I have a Cookie Rok. I use the helmet for 1. Audible pocket 2. Aircraft/door/exit bumps 3. Occasional RW face kick or the more frequent newbie burble torpedo into the back of the head. I wouldn't expect this helmet to protect me in the slightest during an aircraft crash, a canopy crash (low turn, swoops, hitting hangars/trees, whatever), any type of major freefall collision. It looks great, it's comfortable, its light and it's got great camera options... that's about it.
-
My CI/DZO would kick my ass for not looking at the handles. I don't think you need to be looking at anything bar your handles during your EP's. I wouldn't worry about having my head down in freefall, it's nice and stable.
-
AFF stage 1's, the majority of us put on a fake show, they come and go sooo quickly the first time jumpers. Anything pass stage 1, you're a part of the DZ. Once you have your own gear, you're part of the family.
-
Congrats. Definitely get your gear ASAP. At your exit weight, even a 210 would be acceptable if your canopy control is good and your instructors give you the nod. Just be wary of typical winds at your DZ if you loading very light... don't sell yourself short, if you got the confidence/skill, loading between 0.9-1.0 will treat you nice for a first canopy.
-
When you find out, PM me. I have a Cookie Rok that I want to attach a camera to within the next few months... I would LOVE a sidemount. I was under the impression though that Rok only accepts top mount, which I really don't want to do (C182 DZ)... don't want to have to buy a MVX.

Average altitude / price per ft
Chubba replied to joaocorreia's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would be grinning ear to ear if I got 12,000ft per jump. C182 here, 10,000ft, $40 AUD.
