  1. There's a difference between nerves/butterflies and sickening anxiety though.
  2. Don't worry about the canopy strength part... I'm very weak (120lbs, no strength training) and had no problem flying/flaring the canopy, even moving about on my rear risers with a big 270 canopy was possible. Just do whatever feels right, IMO if you can do more tunnel time, that would be good. Being scared in a vertical wind tunnel has me very worried about what you will be like in freefall. Oh, and welcome to the forums
  3. Not to derail, but what wingloading was the pilot and how did you find flying it?

    opening

THANK YOU!!! Opening shock is the worst thing about skydiving for me... the 230 I'm flying at the moment doesn't evens snivel the slightest, combined with the uncomfortable student harnesses... Everytime I throw the PC, I count it out... 1000, 2000... BAM!!!! This thing opens in like 100 - 200ft max. 2 jumps and I'm nice and sore the next few days. I did jump a new rental 210 once that was 100x more comfortable, but unfortunately I had a high flare on a no wind day so the CI/DZO upsized me for the time being :)
  5. My nerves went away around 14, my 4th solo jump. I had some terrible anxiety, I nearly quit before AFF7 (going to be my first solo exit). What type of plane are you jumping? Spotting + Climbing out and doing solo floating exits from a 182 is what helped me. Allowed me to relax on the way up and not fear the door :)
  6. I like it, I like it very much. 2 quotes stand out. I don't think he's alone :) Sounds no different to us. Not to derail the thread or anything, but has there been any licensed down syndrome (or similar) divers?)
  7. So how did everyones exits go first time? I hear like BASE most people go head low? Can't wait for dead air jumps... although exiting a plane is amazing, I can't help but think some of those big bungee jumps I did felt more "intense"... big drop in the gut and the flailing limbs... got to love it :)
  8. I think other skydivers probably have a different viewpoint depending on locations. My home DZ has a single Cessna 182 and does 5 loads of a sunny day... It would be an absolutely PACKED day if there was 20 people hanging around. I like the place being small... get to know EVERY single person by name. Plus 5 canopies in the air at once means we can all fly completely illogical patterns and stay safe :)
  9. Aus dollars. Local dropzone - $35 to 10,000ft Big dropzone - $40 to 14,000ft That's reasonable I guess, it's the $40 of gear hire that's really breaking my balls... $200+ for a 3 jump day is absolutely hell on my poor student pockets.

    ATMONAUTI

Cool videos, I like the feet first... never seen that before. It looks like tracking, but a lot steeper... looks like fun (is any skydiving not fun?). It still doesn't make me understand this thread though, it's absolutely baffling. It's still just flying isn't it? It seems to be a group of people that are trying to emphasise angled/tracking techniques in some weird way, but all in all... it's still just flying? I'm all for the angled flight, the structure of "atmonauti" just seems so confronting... can't we just fly?

    ATMONAUTI

Though I'm still confused as to what it is and how it doesn't fall under the other disciplines of skydiving?
  12. Yeah it's a pickle of a situation... I'm just thinking... 100 - 150 jumps a year. Container for 190 / 170 (170 being 1.0 wingloading for my weight). Safe on the 190 off A with coaching, 170 is a nice sized canopy to cut my teeth for a few hundred jumps. I got no need to go fast, I got really buggered joints (knee's/ankles) from previous sports. All the new guys at my dropzone though are hammering through the canopy sizes... 170 after A, straight to 150 ~50 jumps, looking at going at a 120 soon after that. They keep telling me I'll regret buying such a large container... Well back to the drawing board, still got A LOT to think about... and a lot of trying different canopies. Just ignore me, I'm talking gibberish
  13. Try to track flatter? I was having similar problems doing a delta style track. Now I literally look at my feet and my body goes beyond flat (slightly dearch) and starts cupping the air. My track still completely sucks, but with that technique it's getting better.
  14. Damn straight Skymama, the last 10 AFF1's I watched have crumpled into a messy heap. Welcome Paul Hope you see you around the main forums soon.
  15. +1 AFF2 was worse then AFF1 for me because I knew what to expect. It's a blessing going into AFF1 with no idea what freefall is going to be like.
  16. I consider myself stable when I'm on my belly and staying on my belly no matter what... regardless of whether it's sub-terminal, still on the hill etc. Have you done your hop and pop yet? I typically do a 3-4 second delay (dive exit)... you can't leave 10+ seconds to reach full terminal when you're jumping from 3500ft.
  17. Yeah isn't 1.5k from exit nearly like 12 - 13 seconds? Yikes I got terrible exits, but I'm always on my belly and stable within like 3 seconds.
  18. Absolutely love the black and white... but what's with the fluro green marbling Just curious, as I've nearly achieved my A and looking at buying a new rig soon... what size container/canopies did you get? Did you "estimate" what you would downsize to in 14 weeks, or were you jumping that size when you placed the order?
  19. Thanks for the warning... I'm ~150 exit weight and flying a 240 and I spiral like a madman to lose altitude... didn't even realise that could turn into a malfunction on smaller canopies.
  20. Yeah what's the deal with being so dehydrated skydiving? I drink at least 1.5 gallons at the DZ... but we're not really doing anything active.
  21. Ewww, you guys have some terrible coloured canopies! That Black and Silver is very sexy though
  22. Seven! (somebody has to get this reference) Though seriously, that's a cool name.
  23. If they want to be petty and snicker among themselves about students, so be it... who cares what they think. If you turn up, have fun jumping and enjoy yourself... that's all that matters. IF they start treating you differently, find a new DZ.
